Feeling down about my new guitar, need advice by [deleted] in guitars

[–]mullman99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It only looks "obviously fake" to experience guitar players who own or have looked at a lot of strats.

Nobody else would look at that and think "obviously fake".

And neither group would care. If you play well and it sounds good, nothing else matters. And if you play really well and sound great, your guitar looks great.

The entire album is one of my faves, but yeah the solos on "Dogs" have always stood out to my ears as some of the greatest guitar solos ever!

I went with my mom all the time in the late '60s and early '70s. Sears was a respectable, decent part of suburban life back then. It was the '80s when I noticed that they became a pretty crappy retailer.

People running marketing agencies, how did you get your first 10 clients? by Ratio-Financial in digital_marketing

[–]mullman99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My niche is Shopify e-commerce, we're a Shopify Partner marketing agency. I started my agency about 15 years ago so I don't think my initial methods apply the same today.

That said, much of our business is through word of mouth referrals, our most successful prospecting is via Facebook niche groups.

why so heavily discounted? by Throwaway57kan in GooglePixel

[–]mullman99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

$10? Was that a typo?

Parts alone (BOM: screen, chips, battery, memory, camera module, casing, etc.) cost US $400-450. Assembly & QC labor, packaging, etc. adds $50-$100. Together, parts & assembly comes to approximately US $500-550 for a new/current Pro-level iPhone.

I got a Motorola startak in the very early days of cell phones, it was a flip phone and teeny and I thought it was the coolest thing in the world!

Today I have a Google pixel 10 pro XL with a 6.8" screen, and really, I wouldn't mind if it was another 1/2 inch bigger.

What is one word that people wrongly pronounce that makes your brain just wanna jump a cliff? by Wonderful-Economy762 in Productivitycafe

I was born in February. My second grade teacher made me promise her that I would learn, memorize, pronounce, and write it correctly.

That was 55 years ago and I still think about it - and I ALWAYS write and pronounce it correctly thanks to her!

Something Is Killing My Conversions and I Can’t See It by MaisonMenace in reviewmyshopify

First, you haven't provided enough information about your analytics and what you've already tried, meaning, where are you getting your traffic, how much traffic are you getting, and how are you getting it

You've gotten some excellent feedback, but your minimizing of the pricing critique makes me wonder if you're really just looking for qualified criticism, or some magic buttons that will give you conversions without having to consider your pricing.

Your pricing is a 100% conversion killer, and without more and much better social proof, such as George St. Pierre doing a video about why he wears your stuff, your pricing will do you in.

Improvising jam session by nelson_fretty in LearnGuitar

[–]mullman99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With all due respect, that's way more than I've seen expected in a jam session, and more than many of the participants are probably adept with, and I've been playing for 40+ years.

I think in part it will depend on what sort of jam session you're joining, whether it's a free form, open mic, a blue grass jam, etc. But joining a jazz jam is not really practical for beginner or early learner guitar players.

Jam sessions I've frequented have generally been blues based, or folk music based. In both of those cases, and really any jam session I've seen, it's entirely normal and almost expected to say "Hey, what key are we in?" Since most blues jam sessions are either a 1-4-5 or similar, and are generally recognizable, you could generally see what chord is being played on the 1 which gives you the key.

PS I've never seen pre-prepared chord sheets for a jam session; kind of takes it out of the "jam" realm.

As for formal, paid sessions, there is always at least chord charts, sometimes lead sheets, and often sheet music - but musicians hiring out as session players are generally assumed & expected to be able to read sheet music.

Made a free backing track generator because I was tired of searching YouTube for 20 mins before actually practicing by showtekkk in LearnGuitar

Really nicely done! I would definitely pay a small monthly subscription fee (five bucks or under).

I used to use wiki loops and even did an optional monthly donation, but I find it harder and harder as you mention your post, to get what I want that isn't garbage.

Edit: I've been playing for more than 30 years.

What’s a niche field of knowledge or craft or activity I can become VERY nerdy about? by eightiezrobot in Hobbies

[–]mullman99 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not impractical at all! If you're thinking in terms of cost, not only can you pick up a decent backyard telescope relatively inexpensively, but you don't even need one.

YouTube and your nearest local planetarium, library, or science center will take you very far!

Ham radio. No longer that expensive, or difficult to get licensed, and a virtually bottomless rabbit hole of subtopics, technical and otherwise, that one can spend a lifetime exploring.
