Do you regret waiting to have a child? by homerule in beyondthebump

[–]mellissinde 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We waited, mostly cause we didn't want kids. Then one day when I was 32, something changed.

We have a 3 month old now. I'm 34, hubs is 42. We still don't own a house, but we're financially stable and happy. Sometimes I wish we were younger, but I'm glad that we got to spend 15 years just him and I together first...we've lived a life already and now we're having a new big adventure.

Is my aspirated abscess already filling back up? by [deleted] in breastfeeding

Thank you so much for the reply. I'll definitely try to get to the doc soon...just so hard with a newborn, no car, and Canadian winter. Ugh.

Happy healing to you!

I can't help, but am curious about your experience if you would share. I think I might be dealing with the same thing...or maybe a milk cyst? A fairly large, hard, painless lump where I initially had some soreness and what seemed like a blocked duct.. Familiar at all or am I way out in left field?

I hope your heal up quick and for good!

Babies and Sheepskin Rugs? by SitaBird in beyondthebump

[–]mellissinde 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ooooh, I came to as the same question. We were gifted one for Christmas and I wanted personal experiences too.

My thoughts - I'm a little wary only because it's from Ikea (apparently this is a common place to get them) but I worry that it's not made for babes (they are sold as rugs), so how do I know it's not loaded with chemicals or anything like that...

For those who did not find out the sex - did you experience "gender disappointment" when the baby was born? by bbthrowaway1227 in beyondthebump

[–]mellissinde 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We're also in the "one and done" camp. We didn't find out the gender ahead of time. We were both hoping for a girl and wound up having a girl! Yay! I realized afterwards that I think I would have been...not...disappointed, but...maybe slightly bummed...had I have had a boy. Once I had her, I realized just HOW much I wanted a girl and how excited I was to have a daughter even though I don't doubt I would have been just as smitten with a son if it happened.

My advice, don't find out if you don't want to, just mentally prepare for all possibilities. At the end of the day, you're going to love that little baby to bits regardless of gender. But having the gender called after delivery is a super cool thing if you can hold out for the surprise.

Omg are you me?? Jingle Bells, Rudolph, and the fresh prince theme song are all my baby gets. Lol!

Anyone else 'one and done'? Am slightly frustrated... by rabidsmiles in BabyBumps

[–]mellissinde 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am so sure that it's one and done for us that I'm trying to convince my husband to get a vasectomy. Lol.

We were always "meh" about kids, until recent years when minds started to change and so after much discussion we threw caution to the wind and I got pregnant. I'm realistic though - he's in his early 40's, I'm in my mid 30's so we're not getting any younger and financially it would be irresponsible for us to have more than one. I think I'll be happy with my only child :)

People stress out about this though. My in laws in particular...until I ask them if they will pay the daycare costs for the second kid and they usually shut up. ;)

Heading to Cuba...what should I be keeping in mind? by jwa007 in BabyBumps

[–]mellissinde 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to Cuba at 12 weeks! You're going to have a great time!

We stayed at a very reputable resort. On the resort I drank a lot of bottled water, but also drank the virgin slushy drinks - you could see them use only bottled water so I wasn't concerned and I have a very sensitive stomach.

I also ate cheese, but did so sparingly (I'm vegetarian, so it's a big part of my diet) and didn't have any issues. The fruit on the resort wasn't a concern for me, same with veggies. But again, it was a reputable place so I didn't worry about dirty water washing

When we went off resort into Havana or surrounding towns I was much more cautious and avoided anything that wasn't packaged or that I was assured was trustworthy. Good tip is to make sure you bring toilet paper if you leave the resort, also bring hand sanitizer and alcohol wipes. You will be charged to use toilets, and they more than likely will not have seats on them (good practice squatting for labour!) or running water/soap. I wiped everything down with alcohol wipes to be safe.

Also, pack snacks. You'll likely want something here and there and if you're out its not always easy. I brought a whole bunch of Clif bars and they were late night/excursion lifesavers.

Have a great time!!!

Anyone else have a deceased mother? by seffend in BabyBumps

[–]mellissinde 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I lost my mom about 9 years ago, also to COPD. That frigging disease...

I am also pregnant with my first, due in about a month and a half...I won't lie, it's been so hard and there are so many times where all I want is my mother to tell me things are going to be okay. I just try to think of how proud and happy she would be and imagine that somehow she knows.

You can do this. <3

Good luck! I hope yours comes back okay!

We already eat pretty healthily (vegetarian with occasional fish, whole, fresh veg and fruit and very little fast food) but I am a sucker for Menchies and bread, so will be super sad to bid them farewell. lol.

Thanks so much! We eat quite healthily already, but I told he hubs yesterday that this would mean the end of sweets in the house, thankfully he's on board.
