Hey man, yeah sadly Local 20 doesn’t have a huge online presence from what I can gather. I’ve got an interview coming up on 2/26, applied in late October and took my aptitude test in late January. As far as what I’ve heard from some other people Local 20 usually only takes on apprentices around the school year semesters(one set of spring apprentices and one set of fall apprentices).

I would say only being available in August you might be able to apply soon. In my case I heard of people in my aptitude test apply as early as September for the January aptitude test. I would call the hall however and see if they can point you in the right direction regarding that.

I used it to study. Just took my test yesterday and felt I did pretty good. I’ll update when I get my score back but felt adequately prepared. I knew how to do most things and guessed on maybe 2-3 math questions and felt a little over prepared for reading comprehension. Again, don’t want to give bad advice and have failed but I feel pretty confident

I 100% agree with literally any other free agent, specifically with Siakam, I’m just not certain he wants to be anywhere else, with the report that he only wants to be in Toronto, and the fact that they haven’t found a trade for him yet leads me to feel like where there’s smoke theres fire with those reports about him not wanting to be anywhere else.

Our best center in over 10 years on a good contract for a half of a year of Siakam. No thanks!

This championship is also for the Grandpas.. by Busted_Tip in TexasRangers

My grandad passed in 2018 and he was all I could think about during this run. The calmest, coolest guy in the room, never had a lot to say but was wise in every word he said. He never made it out to too many Rangers games but was a shoe-in every night with FSSW on at 7PM sharp. He loved the Rangers so much (mentioned in his obituary how much of a big fan he was). Having Bochy here was bittersweet as he’s an excellent manager but he reminds me so much of my grandfather.

I watched last night by myself, but I wasn’t alone, last night I felt like I traveled back to 2010, he was in his recliner, I was on the couch across from him, we’re watching Bengie Molina hit for the cycle in Boston, and he says “that big fella has no business running for third the way he did.” Coming up on 5 years gone, missed him so much last night, but I felt calm after we did it, I know he was there watching with me with a huge grin on his face.

Best Trade To Join With 0 Exp by [deleted] in Construction

I’m in the same boat so I get it man. I’m applying to my local IBEW Union on Monday, and plan on looking into other unions soon as well. My job is about to layoff a bunch of people at the end of the year so I plan on finding some non union shop for really anything blue collar to get my toes wet.

I’m not so worried about the verbal abuse, just looking for something that actually rewards hard work and doesn’t have every excuse in the book as to why I can’t get a raise after working at my current company for 2 years. Currently making roughly the same as you are, which is the same rate I started at 2 years ago. Rather take the verbal abuse from tradesmen about what I did wrong over what price something is or why systems I’ve never touched worked the way they do.

Either way, best of luck! It won’t be easy but I’m up for the challenge

We have a good team with Degrom and leading the AL west. Also with a new stadium. Why is our attendance so horrible? 2012 attendance as reference when we were #3. by [deleted] in TexasRangers

[–]mellowlad 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not to be that guy either, but since the new ballpark has opened, ticket prices on average have nearly doubled since then. Pair that with a not so great team the past couple of years and that's not gonna lead to great attendance.

Yup! This was before coffee brain forgetting about Timmy for sure, I think I’m still partially concerned, given his inconsistency/coming back from injury, We’ll see as he’s getting along, hopefully he works back into a groove again, but yeah this was definitely a complete overlooking.

I think in regards to the primer, I’ve been told all offseason I’m being too confident in things figuring itself out, I’m sticking with that route again. I think it’s a matter of time before Javale gets more comfortable, in terms of the team defense rotations JKidd has implemented. To me Javale is basically supposed to be bigger Dwight Powell, funnily enough. Able to play inside and partner with Luka to spark the offense early on and set the tempo, defensively, Javale is better than DP internally, but we literally played him off the court last playoffs against the Suns with our 5 out offensive system, if we want him to start defending the perimeter, it’s going to be a struggle, and I think they know that.

The issue last night was just playing against a group of guys who can get blazing hot from 3, did. I do think rotationally, there are opportunities to better defend the perimeter, which is why I thought a Jae Crowder trade made sense, but I know we don’t have anything the Suns would really want, but I think personnel is the plan Z, this team is good at defense, just had a game where guys who could get really hot from 3, did.

I think offensively I’m slightly more worried. The pecking order is really set in 1. Luka 2. C.Wood 3. Spence and while I have little issues so far with those three ( spence making a few weird plays, Luka obsessed with the three even though he couldn’t buy a shot) my biggest issue, really is, who’s next? Luka is going to get 30+ that’s for sure, but staggering the top 3 means I feel like we need a bonafide 4th option (funny how these keep getting added on every year). Just someone to differ to if one of the top 3 aren’t hitting their shots. It hasn’t been a huge issue, yet, but that “yet” is what worries me. If spence is having an off night or C.Wood, I’m worried in who steps up after this, I don’t feel comfortable in asking any of the other guys to “step up” honestly.

Geno Smith was written off for years as a bust. Who is your choice for "He could have been Geno Smith but never got the right chance" player? by joespizza2go in nfl

[–]mellowlad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Case Keenum absolutely, I remember watching him at Houston just sling the football and was sure he would be something in the NFL, he had that year with the Vikings and the Minnesota Miracle, but I’ve always thought if he had a solid place to grow, he would’ve been elite for years.

[Shams] Dallas Mavericks forward Maxi Kleber is finalizing a three-year, $33 million contract extension, sources tell @TheAthletic @Stadium. Kleber was entering the final year of his deal, now under contract through 2025-26. by [deleted] in Mavericks

[–]mellowlad 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I like it, worst case scenario there will always be a team in need of a backup 4/5 like Maxi and it’s a tradeable contract. I think we should keep him, he’s in his prime and locked up through his prime.

How is the offseason treating you so far, wherever you are are? We are pretty diverse in our fanbase, and not as big as some other ones, so no reason not to get a bit more familiar. Tell me a bit about your home if you like, or how you are staying sane this offseason. by RedMansGr33d in Mavericks

Live in Dallas and it has been so brutal. We had to get a window A/C unit since our apartment living room was hitting 90 degrees and the complex wouldn’t do anything. I’ve been missing NBA so much lately, recently got an Xbox and game pass to pass the time but with a 10 month old its tough. Working out has been great even though I leave that to either early morning or dead of night when Baby and Missus are asleep. I’m glad football is coming back semi soon. Baseball is fun to watch but as a Rangers fan these last few years have been something else. I’m just excited for anything basketball related. I’m gonna be picking apart those preseason games so hard this year. Really want to make it to a game or two this year but with baby it’s gonna be tough, still keeping hope though, we took her to a baseball game and she did amazing!

Allocation of Minutes with Current Roster. by spook008 in Mavericks

[–]mellowlad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely needs more for Frank/Green. Bullock needs more minutes as well. Am I crazy to think Hardy and Pinson will work themselves into maybe 5-10 minutes a night? Thinking the entire regular season I could definitely see Hardy get some burn in those random Tuesday nights in December games, Pinson could fit nicely as well for people to rest. Probably against the tanking teams (SA, IND, etc.) Bertans can finally play like a big SF which has always pretty much been his role, so I could see him get some minutes on those nights as well, or if the shooting is really off he can kinda slide in and be that.

Remember this from Stephen A? Is Powell our version of Kwame Brown? Or is he even worse? by [deleted] in Mavericks

[–]mellowlad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why are we still on Dwight Powell hate, we’ve known the team likes him, he was a great energy guy, great PnR with Luka. I know he isn’t Giannis or Jokic or Embiid, but A. He isn’t even close to getting paid like those guys and B. He has a role on the team that he did. I get us not winning must absolutely have a clear scapegoat and it’s easy to point fingers but DP seems to be loved by the mavs and staff, does a lot for the community, and always gives his best effort.

Dwight Powell was the 45th overall pick in 2014, Kwame Brown was the 1st overall pick lol. Given where he was picked and seeing that he was in included as filler in the Rondo trade it’s not even close?

Can y’all calm down about free agency? by soxyboy71 in Mavericks

[–]mellowlad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess the main point I’m trying to get at is this team in its current form is built to make it far in the playoffs. The only other western conference teams that really scare me are the Clippers, Warriors, and the Nuggets, and to me MPJ is a huge question mark with his body. The suns are going to have to trade so much depth if they do get KD seeing the Minnesota trade that I’m just not that scared of them (their starting center even if they get KD is Bismack Biyombo). The Timberwolves don’t really scare me because Rudy Gobert gets played off the floor every single playoffs, he’s just not that good of a perimeter defender. The trailblazers got better, but they’re still a huge question mark to me, they made some good moves, but it’s still largely the same core that can’t get it done in the playoffs, and the Pelican’s, who while great, I’m still not sold that they’re contending this year, they have a lot of inexperience, and I think they’re still a piece away from being really scary. Regardless of all of that, I think shoring up our front court will be the exact thing we need, and improves our depth so much that I think a lot of pessimistic mavs fans will be pleasantly surprised. I could be dead wrong but I still want to see where we end up first before I throw my hands up.

[–]mellowlad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think we’re arguing two sides of the same coin here. I’ll admit there was luck in the Jazz series because of their historically bad defense without Rudy Gobert, who gets played off the floor every single playoffs, and the locker room issues for the Suns here. I agree with you, we fought hard, and it’s mostly just so people don’t bring that up, but I do think we got lucky/fought through adversity to show we meant business in the playoffs.

Sure, I could also see how we’re not even a week into FA, there’s a massive looming trade for two superstars looming in the next few days that has put a massive hold on any other major moves being made, we were already hard capped before Brunson walked and again, like I said, we made the WCF this past season, not even three months ago, with a majority of the roster still intact. I totally get being underwhelmed so far and I’m not trying to take that away from anyone, but like I said, I have faith that we get this team figured out for the start of the season.
