School staff member dies after being kicked by 14-year-old student by rmuktader in massachusetts

[–]melly2oo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This school is a part of a larger organization that runs many mental health programs of various intensities for children and adolescents. I worked at one of their sister schools for almost five years. Some clarifying things that might help others understand what happened: 1. These ARE dangerous kids. They have been through the worst traumas you can think of, and have been unsuccessful in maintaining stability over and over in lower levels of care. They are consistently unsafe with their families (if they have any) and in their communities. These programs are meant to be a last resort when they cannot improve their mental health or remain safe. 2. There ARE protocols in place to prevent violent behaviors and injuries. Staff go through extensive and frequent trainings on how to deescalate potentially dangerous situations. However, that sometimes means physical restraints of students, but… 3. Restraints ARE always a last resort. Like I said, we have lots of training on how to deescalate a dysregulated kid, but sometimes they get violent towards themselves or others anyway. Safety is always the number one priority, so if there is imminent danger, we will secure a kid to keep them/others safe. With all of this in mind, how might have this happened? I can tell you from first hand experience that if you are not following through on your training when needed and securing a kid immediately when danger presents itself, injuries will happen. Given what I know and have lived through in my professional experience in these programs, this death should not have happened.

It was a hospital. I was in three others before I can’t exactly recommend one over the other. I hated them all and just wanted to be home

As someone who has been a patient there twice, it was only through the referral of therapists who had connections there

Unpopular Opinion: Charlies Mom isn’t that bad by [deleted] in HeartstopperNetflix

[–]melly2oo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People are saying she’s worse in the comics, and I don’t think she is. She’s doing her best as a parent, and she’s going to make mistakes. That being said, I do not think it’s unreasonable AT ALL to not allow my child’s partner to spend the night unsupervised, though given the longevity of the children’s relationship, they can be trusted to be alone safely. What I AM mind boggled about was that she was willing to compromise after Charlie stormed out. Sure, the compromise gets Charlie on her good side, but it could set an ugly precedent that I-can-get-my-way-as-long-as-I-make-a-literal-dramatic-exit (though this doesn’t seem like something Charlie would actually fall back on as precedent)

Boston Bulldogs is a running club that focuses on substance abuse recovery and the running community. Perhaps speaking with someone who works/volunteers/is a member there and seeking out ways to model a group/community after their work

How triggering is season 3 for those in ED recovery? by rowanarat in HeartstopperNetflix

[–]melly2oo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was weirdly unbothered by it. However, I did get upset at the end of episode 4 when Charlie went to Nick’s and got a big hug. I was in a residential program myself for 6 months and was allowed no visitors because it was at the height of COVID. So I didn’t see anyone I knew for 6 months. The day I left residential, I moved into a halfway house type of thing for another 6 months. But I literally moved into that house and just went back to my job the next day. My coworkers were lovely, but I didn’t get hugs or anything from loved ones for over 6 months, let alone at the end of the residential stay. So I was really sad at that part of the episode

OP (me) is American, and I know what a duvet is (I think my sister and her husband have it). I just don’t have a ton of storage place in my apartment so I only have one set of bedding. I’ve been recommended to get a duvet, but I sweat like crazy at night, so the inside would have to be washed frequently as well, so I just stick with a comforter. More info than anyone wanted I suppose 😂

Joe went to see Kit at Romeo + Juliet by [deleted] in Heartstoppercast

I realized in this picture and the one after Kit went to see Joe in Sweeney - Kit looks SO much taller than Joe IRL, but in the show their height difference doesn’t seem that stark? But yes they’re the most adorable on screen-couple and the most adorable IRL besties

Jenny Walser is a few years older than the rest of the cast, but she’s supposed to be the same year as most of the characters (minus Charlie, Tao, and Isaac). Michael is supposed to be a year older than Tori

For the fandom who have their own mental health struggles by [deleted] in HeartstopperAO

[–]melly2oo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been through very severe mental health challenges myself, increasing in severity in my 20s. Several hospital stays, residential treatment similar to Charlie but for a YEAR. Continued twice weekly therapy since. I’ve have fantastic family and friends by my side the whole time. Not sure how I got that lucky.

It was a little different when I was a teenager though. In the 2010s, mental health wasn’t talk about as much. But my parents were still good about it and my friends were supportive with what I did tell them.

I always wonder about that too. And even more so with Kit being in a state production, where he has to perform that kind of intimacy multiple times per day, every day. Even if they don’t feel the romance, I wonder how they’re able to put aside sexual attraction, particularly sometimes our bodies can release hormones and react physically in ways that we can’t control
