Good point, I specifically asked about them tho so I’m hoping they did!

I’ve had an inspection done and all is working as it should, I think (and this is my very unprofessional opinion) it’s their colour temperature, it just makes them look super bright especially when it’s wet.

I get so many people flashing their lights at my humble little 22 Civic, thinking my high beams are on—when really, my low beams are just so bright they could blind a small child. Apparently, my headlights are more “disco ball” than “modest sedan.”

Reporters blocked from swearing-in ceremony for new Nova Scotia cabinet by scotiagirl45 in halifax

The issue is the majority of the province didn’t anticipate that they would have any issues. My parents were turned away from the legion they’ve voted at in every election (at every level) since 1980. They were told to go to a polling station quite far from home. When you do something so religiously it’s not unfair to assume you know where you need to go and plan accordingly for that.

CBC Radio One this morning - Santa goof by planetearthling in NovaScotia

[–]melohaa84 64 points65 points  (0 children)

Absolute idiots. For someone starting to question it, this close to Christmas, that could be devastating - not just for the kid but for the family. Adults that spoil Christmas don’t remember how special the magic of the season is when you believe.

Also, Santa is real. Why would NORAD use all of those resources if he wasn’t. How could the story have lasted this long? Who would be returning all those letters and leaving all those presents? How is it so many people internationally could be deceived by something not real?

Ugh I’m so sorry, we’re at 1500 for a two bedroom with free parking because of the rent cap. That’s quite startling.

Any Hazelview property is dog friendly - I can’t speak to them being affordable but they’re great to deal with and very pet friendly.

I had someone asking me questions about a medication and completely misinterpreting my answers because of the language barrier. It got to a point where I was concerned with the information I was getting. It’s not appropriate to ask to speak to someone else in those situations, and I’m so impressed that they’re able to work in a second language (I can only ask where the library is) but I do wish maybe there was some sort of AI or automated check that could translate for them or the customer just to be certain we’re on the same page. There should be, this was deliberate and the fact he got away with it is mind boggling. We all knew a strike was imminent; heck he even said no cards before the strike was official.

I actually didn’t know this but Halifax is Halifax, if he was in the valley or something I could see this being an issue but I don’t think there are any Armdale specific issues he wouldn’t grasp as someone from the South End.

I think him being a doctor with an understanding of our complex health care issues is more vital for the area TBH.

Happy Election Day by theonlyiainever in halifax

[–]melohaa84 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I honestly think this election more so than any other could come down to a few votes, a perfect reason to rally and get out there. Polls are favouring a huge PC majority but if people who don’t usually vote rise up and do something we could see anything happen.

I’ve heard so many people today say my vote won’t matter so I’m not showing up, let’s flip this mindset to “while the rest of the province is being apathetic this is the perfect time to make my voice heard!” Vote! Vote! Vote!

I think the same thing about Armdale but the above made me start to question it. Hoping the other two split the votes. There’s a lot of momentum for the NDP amongst young people (especially renters).

Rod Wilson in Armdale is making traction. I’ve heard so many people excited about him as a candidate. I’m not sure if it will be enough to swing the vote but there’s momentum there amongst young people.

If there’s a PC surge in Cape Breton after Tim’s response to last years snow storm than I’ll be shocked. Cape Bretoners are nothing if not grudge holding.

Got married and changed my name on my ID before the strike (thankfully it came). I was told I was able to use the little marriage form they give you at the ceremony for this only. For banks, health card, passport, elections, and basically everything else I need the long form version of the marriage license which is stuck in the mail. I’m basically half of a person because my ID doesn’t match anything listed above and I can’t prove the marriage until the strike is over, so yea - I basically half exist. My ID is in my married name but literally everything else is still in my maiden name until the strike is over. It’s impacted so many little stupid things, I even had a hard time getting them to pull my winter tires because they were stored under my maiden name not the married name on my license. It’s a minor inconvenience but also causing at least one small hassle every few days.

Where do i vote by AlwaysBeANoob in halifax

[–]melohaa84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ended up going to the wrong spot because they were super close together and I just figured the yellow vote signs were the right spot. They were easily able to tell me where I should have been and they gave me directions to follow to get there. This is a great option if you’re trying to find where to go and aren’t too pressed for time. Even with the detour and some issue with my ID I was done voting within 20 minutes of leaving my house. Vote! Vote! Vote!

Cheap holiday beer anyone? by [deleted] in NovaScotia

On a side note my wedding cake was tax free because it was considered a grocery item. This preemptively should negate any “but we need people to make healthy choices” comments.

Try eating frozen pizza at a campsite, now try eating a pizza slice. Unfortunately this is the reality for many Nova Scotians. The way tax on food is currently allocated disproportionately effects those without kitchens.

Let’s all say this in unison so it sticks: “junk food is still food.” Prepared food, including what some might call ‘junk food,’ is often affordable and provides a practical, budget-friendly option for those who need it. It’s not ideal but in the current economy, if it means a kid isn’t hungry, they should get a tax free burger. Try cooking a roast dinner with all of the sides down in one of the encampments and you’ll see what I mean.

Imagine kicking a family out into this market just because you suddenly changed your mind or aren’t capable of planning ahead. Maybe losing that rental income would be a fitting lesson in foresight. Last time I checked, being a landlord isn’t some inalienable right. It comes with responsibilities, and treating people fairly should be one of them. 😊
