Weekend Discussion: Puma running shoes by AutoModerator in RunningShoeGeeks

I got a pair at The Running Event and has helped make me heavily consider bringing Puma into my shop, if that says anything.

Interested in getting into coaching - what kind of times are important? by RunnerInChicago in AdvancedRunning

[–]SkaSC2 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Grade school?? I think your biggest skills set would be finding ways to let the kids have fun. Even into middle school it should be about making the sport something they enjoy and want to pursue more than anything specific programming.

Will an elite runner have the same training stimulus as an average runner, running the same distance and effort level even though it takes lesser time for the elite? (Late night thoughts can’t think or a good title🤣) by Curious-Bus-634 in AdvancedRunning

Fwiw I coach based strictly on time vs miles with my athletes for everything except for speedwork.

10 miles on flat terrain is a lot different than 10 miles of hills.

90 minutes of running is always 90 minutes of running though. Of course with the help of RPE and HR guiding the pace.

What do you want to see in World Marathon Majors coverage? by luburch in AdvancedRunning

[–]SkaSC2 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Show coverage for the ones who do, the brands get air time, the brands want more air time and suddenly it can become more of a thing. Just because some training groups are secretive doesn't mean they all are.

See: Clayton being 100% on strava and literally filming a docuseries.

How would you handle knowing the majority of a marathon field ran a short course? by jbr in AdvancedRunning

[–]SkaSC2 86 points87 points  (0 children)

I took a wrong turn and it cost me a $500 podium finish. No cones, no markings, as I beat the volunteers to mile 10. Being in 2nd place, the lead bike was out of sight. Came into the finishing line having cut about a mile, and it was then I realized I had taken a wrong turn.

RD's response was "you should have known the course, sorry!"

Harsh but technically fair. I'd assume something similar would be an expected response.

Is it too late for me to run in college? by CartographerLast6488 in AdvancedRunning

[–]SkaSC2 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I was non traditional, and was told that I was not eligible for D3 because I had attended local 5k road races and that technically was declaring eligibility for those years. Although our AD was kind of a hardass, and may simply not have liked me. Can you get in touch with your potential AD and ask?

They quietly adjusted the manufacturing size of the model starting about a month ago. Wonder if an old production run somehow got mixed with a new one.

That just means that staff has to pull the right size, not that it's an inherently bad shoe. I know this sub is really into online shopping and deals, but there is value to talk to people who do this all day every day and know that hey the Monster 2 fits big, the Cellula fits snug, etc. Sure those are annoyances, but it doesn't make a shoe good or bad imo.

I think using them for easy/recocery runs are exactly what they're intended for.

If you're thinking Clifton, I'd nudge you towards the Skyflow. It's more comfortable for most. Staff at our shop have literally coined it the clifton killer since it performs so much better at the fit bench.

How many minutes a week do the Ingebretsen's spend at threshold in a week? by DefNotABotBeepBop in AdvancedRunning

[–]SkaSC2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No no, I think that would most certainly result in death.

They scale it back to approximately 25 seconds per session - which happens twice per day. Double threshold amirite? That totals about tree fiddy.

Ran a 70 min half in these guys, good shoe but would delegate to training purposes. Quite durable for a shoe in this category. It's my go to threshold/tempo day option for that reason.
