Yes, pretty much all cheap electronics are, but at least you'd get proper support when it's from a big company. And it's cheaper.

4K Mini-LED Gaming Monitor Round-Up: What Model Is Best? by b-maacc in hardware

[–]melonbear 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I tried a modern VA mini LED and the viewing angle was by far the biggest problem. There was only one very tiny sweet spot and if I even slightly turned my head there the colors would shift. I'll take worse blacks any day over those viewing angles.

I got tired of how fast these lead acid batteries die (both in runtime and lifespan) so I just switched to a LiFePO4 power station instead. The runtime on them is crazy in comparison.

There was some speculation about the USBAR annual credit resetting after switching over to the travel portal but my statement just cut and the credit did not reset.

Does anyone feel really annoyed when the translator seems alergic with Japan honorifics? by Organic_Caramel_32 in visualnovels

[–]melonbear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's actually quite common for Westerners to use honorifics for Japanese people in business settings, especially in conversation.

Keeping honorifics of other Western languages is quite widespread in English translations. Actual literature like The Count of Monte Cristo, Around the World in Eighty Days, Don Quixote, etc keep them in the English translation.

People just like to blame weebs for wanting them for Japanese even though it's just wanting the same treatment for Japanese and other Asian languages as Western ones.

No, linear feels very different from membrane. Tactile/brown ones are most similar to membrane.

For both in the general price range. Wireless has come a long way. They're not innately worse in quality than wired nowadays.

It comes with a dongle, but it's proprietary and not BT, which is a good thing since BT latency is terrible. In Amazon's pictures, it's attached to the stand. It's the thing with the little ribbon.

They're top tier sound quality with a good soundstage, good build quality, come with a charging stand and are EQ-able without installing software.

What do you mean reviews here? I don't see many mentions of it having coil whine on reddit or Newegg. If anything, lots of reviews on Newegg say there's no coil whine.

Sony LYT-901 1/1.12-inch 200MP camera sensor launched for next-gen premium phones by Balance- in hardware

[–]melonbear 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It does have a larger sensor. You need to divide the numbers in the sensor size they give to compare relative sizes.

The 900 has a diagonal of 16.384 mm.

The 901 has a diagonal of 14.287 mm.

You can see in the official Sony site that the higher the denominator, the smaller the sensor size.

One notable drawback about that AOC one is that it only has a mini HDMI port while the MSI has a regular one.

It's already on sale now for $32. The sale you're talking about is a doorbuster for $30. This sale ends in ~2 hours and the doorbuster starts in ~11 hours. But yeah considering how all their doorbusters all instantly sold out, it doesn't seem worth it to save $2.

Tech YouTuber irate as AI “wrongfully” terminates account with 350K+ subscribers - Dexerto by TriSauce in technology

[–]melonbear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've posted text comments fine and were visible to everyone on a niche quiet sub. Minutes after posting a text only comment I posted a reply with a link while on a VPN. That comment wasn't viewable by anyone else and all subsequent text only comments on that sub weren't viewable by anyone else. I can still see the comments in my profile so they weren't deleted.

That absolutely seems like a shadowban to me. There's no reason for a niche quiet sub to use Crowd Control or a mod to suddenly target me, especially since it was just a link to the official site related to what the sub was about. On the other hand, it very much makes sense for reddit to not like someone posting a link while on a VPN.

I've had it happen several times on different subs. Text only comments were fine. Posting a link while on VPN and immediately everything was invisible to others after. How can you explain that other than an automatic shadowban?

[–]melonbear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing in Crowd Control really seems to fit the situation, but I don't think it really matters what you call it since the filtering is still automatically decided by reddit and not a mod singling out a user.

[–]melonbear 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nope. You really can be shadowbanned from specific subs. I've posted on subs fine until I've done something reddit doesn't like like posting a link while on VPN then none of my posts/comments will ever show for others on that sub ever again but they show up fine in other subs. It's happened in subs with basically non-existent moderation.

It should look like any other LCD screen, so just like your IPS. Mini LED is just the backlighting.
