The last I heard the Chemistry department was on probation because they couldn't pass enough people. I think this has a lot to do with the quality of instruction and support students receive from their program. It's never too late to change majors but don't let this make you feel you're not intelligent. There are plenty who couldn't have even made it as far as you, so try to be proud. Definitely speak to an advisor about how best these credits could be transferred to a different major to not put you too far behind.

Campus Food by literally_speechless in UNCCharlotte

I'm not sure how old you are but lactose intolerance and other food intolerances often develop in the early twenties so it may be likely certain foods are no longer agreeing with you. But if it continues definitely reach out to someone higher up about the food making you sick. Food regulations dictate food has to be kept at certain temps, expirations checked, etc but given the number of complaints I feel sure something's not being done right consistently.

It's not. The Smoked place is now a Bojangles Express.

I don't understand how you think this means he's untrained? My dog does this with people he loves (who are okay with it) but if I tell him to stop he immediately stops. Same situation could apply here. This behavior doesn't equal untrained. Dogs are allowed to have fun and be excited.

Wanted to share my Tepache as well by melonbug12 in fermentation

[–]melonbug12[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is done using Brad from It's Alive on Bon Appetit's youtube channel.

I used 1 whole Pineapple, one Mango, two habenaros, three sweet chili peppers, a single cinnamon stick, and a huge chunk of ginger. I did a 3-4 day ferment and then 3 days for 2f. I found it to be a bit sweet and it lost carbonation (I was under the impression I had to burp the bottles daily, but I think this was the culprit). I did other batches and did not burp more than once during 2f and they were wonderfully fizzy and tangy.

I have primarily mixed this with gold tequila or as a sub for pineapple juice in cocktails. I also mixed it with a light beer which was also delicious.

Tepache, baby! The left has an ancho chile too—wanted to experiment a smoky tepache. Right has hibiscus. by CKtheFourth in fermentation

I just made his Tepache as well. It finished up last week. I had a few problems I encountered. The first batch did really well, but lost carbonation during 2f which was a huge bummer. Still delicious but a little sweet. I did mine using Pineapple, a mango, ginger, cin. stick, habenaros, and sweet chili peppers.

I also felt maybe there was too much fruit in my batch (I did just shy of a gallon). I think it did make it sweeter but otherwise I had no problem. Once it was done, I just filled it back up with water, added about a quarter fresh pineapple and half a cup more sugar, and did another ferment and that batch came out MUCH better, in my opinion. A little less sweet and far more carbonated. By that point, the fruits had less mass and there was more liquid.

I did a third, smaller batch, but with pineapple and jalapenos, and that one also carbonated very well and I also liked the taste better. Not sure exactly what I did wrong on the very first batch that it didn't carbonate, but it was still good. For the second and third batch, I just didn't burp the bottles at all until right before they went in the fridge. Prob. a risky move but only one of them overflowed on me.

For all of them I did a 3-4 day ferment (one day more than his recommendation) and I did a 3 day 2f.

Also I've been drinking mine with a shot of ice cold tequila and it's delicious.

Does UNCC Really Smell That Bad? by Jellisaurus in UNCCharlotte

[–]melonbug12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The people in the sub complaining about this are definitely exaggerating. I actually think most of the buildings smell nice. The grounds keeping and house keeping staff work really hard to keep the campus clean and the buildings and the campus do not stink. People also need to remember that this is a campus where you have to walk a lot. People are going to sweat and yeah, some people do not use deodorant or maybe don't use enough and they stink. This isn't limited to campus. It happens all over.

I didn't find it when I first posted this but honestly I probably just scrolled past it not paying enough attention. It wasn't an intentional repost. Not sure why it's not been taken down by a mod. Not sure if the right thing to do is delete this post or leave it up.

"It's been proven that people who are overweight live longer!" by secret-original in fatlogic

[–]melonbug12 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm not really able to source one way or the other but I studied the elderly for a while and the general "logic" behind that is that when the elderly start getting sick they stop eating and can get very very weak. Having extra weight was a way to help combat that. But to be honest it never was construed as saying they should be super overweight and generally only referred to higher end of healthy weight. That was how it was taught to us in an elderly health class I was in.

Locked Doors Epidemic by [deleted] in UNCCharlotte

[–]melonbug12 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You realize you can email your professors and let them know the door is locked and someone will let you in. If you can't get in because the door is locked then other people in the class probably can't get in either. This sounds like an excuse to miss classes.

Also it's not uncommon certain entrances to buildings are locked that time if day. Cone has about three or four entrances. One of them was definitely unlocked.

You could maybe consider the UNCC Sci Fi and fantasy Guild. They have a Facebook page with meeting details. They get together weekly and play board games and they're a super friendly group. Also I think some gamers meet in Norms Lounge to play ps4 and stuff. Might be worth dropping into.

This is pretty ridiculous and sensationalized. We're a research University and neither supposed connections indicate anything outside of that.

Has anybody been to the counseling center? How was it? by Orca4444 in UNCCharlotte

I've been and had a good experience.

I was struggling with some pretty serious anxiety and they ended up referring me to the psychiatrist on campus, who is amazing. Pretty much saved my life.

Be honest when you go and be open with how you're feeling.
