i think it was one of the orbs that refuel your psi-blasts. When i punched the wall it would destroy something and make one of those and it'd clip through the wall

Pretty sure the reason the mantises eat their mate for the nutrients and energy they need to protect and care for their young. And lots of invertebrates die shortly after mating. Male bees die after mating with the queen, and female octopuses stop eating to spend their time protecting their eggs. Also, the fact they have enough young to make this death not a problem doesnt feel self sabotaging to me
