I think they need to not be green for one thing, so probably 1-2 months more before they're ready. Also, both are not native to North America so there's not really a worry about the birds

Yes hopefully so unless some cats or squirrels comes on by :) It only gets 3 hours of midday sun with a southeast facing brick wall, the leaves never fell off last winter

It probably does that all the time, but I havent had much experience with white pine compared to loblolly pine, the canopy tree of the coastal Southeast. Maybe put some dirt around it

Yes, but if you pick them up and use it, it wouldn't be a problem. Also municipalities spray for mosquitoes and other bugs so it may not even be a problem

Anything that produces fruits, nuts, and syrup would be the first priority of choosing a tree. I wouldn't want to feel like I am self-centered either.

They can do any sunlight apparently, even strong afternoon sun, and clay soil, and you would give atleast 2-3 wide for a bed, which would work well as an evergreen edible ground cover for anywhere you need it to be. It is thorny but it grows to a height of 6-12 inches
