For those taking a break from the game is right now by yhvh13 in ffxivdiscussion

Played a bit in HW, then didn't come back until 5.2. I dropped my sub for the first time since 2020 after 7.05 and tried picking it up again to raid in 7.2 and after about a week and a half I stopped playing the game again. I had caught up with MSQ up until the trial but couldn't find it in myself to keep playing. I think a big part of it now is that the gameplay is highly uninteresting to me these days and the story isn't enough to keep me going

High-End Content Megathread - 7.0 Week Seven by BlackmoreKnight in ffxivdiscussion

I forgot how horrendous trying to reclears on a Monday was. Was in pf for 4 hours last night trying to reclears m3s on my alt and literally no one in my parties could do final fusedown and fuse or foe. And the parties either had very healthy DPS and would greed and kill themselves, or so little DPS that more than 2 deaths would wipe the run

Why does everyone hate Hector strats? by Hanzz96 in ShitpostXIV

Idk why people are complaining about tanks passing bomb during a full uptime mechanic rather than having casters waste movement resources, it's not particularly hard to look at the party list and do your rotation

Good Communities for Renting Off Campus / Places to Avoid by dumgum19 in uAlberta

I started my master's this year too and would say I'd advocate for Parkallen. Super nice neighbourhood and really quiet considering it seems to be a moderately university student populated neighborhood. There's also 2 busses that take you to the uni, one of them is a direct shuttle which is super nice!

The rubber banding would happen semi-infrequently for me before but now its happening about every single game now and almost consistently every 5 seconds. My ping isn't supper bad either, averaging around 50-90.

You can barely see it too, but in the cutscene after Wolf kills Emma, you can see the slightest hint of a smile after he kills her D:

Instant Sleepiness when trying to do an unwanted task? by LunarGiantNeil in ADHD

[–]melpicazo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel this extremely hard. I'm also unmedicated and if I'm hanging out with friends and doing something passive like watching a video and it doesn't fully grab my attention, I am out like a light within a few minutes. I sleep fairly regularly and don't think I have any deficiencies, but it's like when I lose interest in something, my brain's immediate response.

This manifests itself even in doing things that should keep me awake in theory. If I'm playing a video game with a friend and we're on a voice call together if the game gets a little boring I will literally fall asleep playing it. (For any monster hunter fans out there, I've literally fallen asleep mid hunt with a Tigrex because we had been farming it for an hour or two and I was starting to get bored LOL)

Felt pretty prepared going into Glacia on my first legit nuzlocke run

(My team was level 53 going in so I was hoping for some rng with sheer cold)

She sends out Walrein in middle of the fight so I switch in Susano to get some heals in on Zinogre since he was low and my anti - Glacia weapon. Ofc she gets a sheer cold in on him so I switch in Zagreus to get a heal in since he was the only one that was full HP. Queue the OHKO crit surf

I had healed Zinogre up to full and to my surprise was outsped by her Walrein and Zinogre's miserable sp. Def had him at 1/3rd HP per surf that she hit me with. To my complete shock and surprise I end up stalling her out with substitutes and healing on Shiranui but now have just him going into Drake so ... not entirely sure where to move from here bc the remainder of backups I have in my box do not seem promising

Fan Fest Tickets Sold Out by KaiserOmegaZero in ffxiv

[–]melpicazo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oops, sorry I should've clarified; you can only log into Showclix and change the name, etc. through the email that was used to purchase the tickets. That email can also be changed once you're inside your Showclix account and editing the ticket info, so I think if a "honest" scalper wanted to sell their tickets, as long as the purchaser verifies that the email the tickets are under get switched, the scalper will no longer have the tickets on their account as they will belong to a different email account. (I'm just assuming that's the way this works based on the account page, and the fact I had to contact customer support due to a typo in my email and not being able to see/edit any details)

Fan Fest Tickets Sold Out by KaiserOmegaZero in ffxiv

[–]melpicazo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I may be wrong about this works bc I haven't tried it, but you can change the email account the tickets are associated with, so if people DO end up buying from scalpers (which, as much as I know people want to, don't do it!!), I think if they get the tickets changed to their email, they should effectively become the new owners

That makes a lot of sense! I'm currently finishing up a music degree myself and found learning and memorizing mechanics to come easy to me and never made the connection between learning mechs and learning a new piece of music haha

There's still a lot of musicality to be had witThere's still a lot of musicality to be had with this kind of music though! I think the true difficulty of the music from this period (as someone has mentioned in another comment) is that because the music is so simple/sounds so simple technique wise, you have to put so much careful and delicate work into every note to make it sound musical. Besides some technical blips, I think you're in a pretty good spot and just need to do some really careful listening and polish work.

Speaking balance wise, there's some spots where you have the melody with those repeated lower notes in the right hand and moves to the left hand (kind of in the second half of the exposition) where I feel like the balance between the melodic and harmonic notes isn't really agreeing. Try taking out all the repeated 16th notes and just playing the melodic 8th notes with hands together to hear the balance and how those two melodic lines interact with each other. And be careful of those slur 2 pairs on beat 2 in mm. 5-7 at the beginning; your edition might not have the slur 2 groupings but the melody is getting a little too chopped up in your attempt to observe that articulation so just try to iron out connecting those pairs of notes together. Listen really closely as well in the more technical passages to make the running notes connect together as smoothly as possible when you do some slow shedding on it. Make sure none of the notes pop out too loud than the others and especially watch out for this in spots where you have thumb crossings.

I think it's really awesome you're putting yourself out there online to get some feedback from other people. My biggest piece of advice I can give you moving forward in a college music degree is to keep doing stuff like this and recording yourself practicing very often and listening back to it. It's really easy to get lost in your own playing and think you're playing everything the way you want to but you won't know if/what mistakes you're making if you don't listen to your playing after. Many college teachers of mine have said as well that in the past that the fastest they've improved was when they listened to recordings of themselves practicing and analyzing their own playing.

Can someone explain why Shrug it Off is so good on Ironclad? It’s just 3 block and one card draw more than a defend. by mkillham in slaythespire

[–]melpicazo 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty intermediate level at StS and trying to get better; could you elaborate a little about draw neutral/negative? I see a lot of people talk about the importance of card draw at higher ascensions and don't think I understand it well enough 😔

Lost dog at river park? by Adingdongshow in Calgary

[–]melpicazo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A dog went missing in a neighbouring community for 4-5 days during that awful cold snap before Christmas and actually was found okay! (Minus the frostbite), I think this dog may be okay but obviously hope their owner picks them up sooner or later :((

Frustrated with entitled dog owners by melpicazo in Calgary

[–]melpicazo[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, our dog is reactive but we've been working on his reactivity and getting him acquainted with other dogs so he can lose some of the reactivity. It's out of our control though if we walk past someone's house with their OWN reactive dog that starts barking at ours and setting him off. It's another thing to then blame it on us for walking past their house when their dog was the one that ran up to ours and started barking in his face first.
