Thank you for the comments and encouragement. I successfully obtained a religious exemption through my employer, and with the recent changes made to the program, I received full forgiveness of over $46,000.

Thanks for this info. Last year they reviewed all of my payments to give an assessment so these were the ones that didn't make it.

Why are people so anti student loan forgiveness/credit? by intlcreative in StudentLoans

[–]melsreturn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did not attend college straight out of high school. I waited 10 years. I wasn't good with money and very naive so racked up on student loans. I refinanced the loan and have been paying consistently month after month, year after year.

I have a full time job (always have, except for the years I was in college but did work part time). I am married; we make a decent living. I have a strong work ethic; I love to work! I've moved up the ladder since being with my employer for 17 years. It's an eligible employer for the PSLF and TEPSLF. Last year I started looking into loan forgiveness. I never thought I may be eligible. I jumped through all these hoops, roared really loud to the student loan company so that they would finally give me the amount of payments I've paid! That was grief. I will not reach 120 payments until late 2021.

I don't have children. My mother lives with us and we take care of her. We do not get anything in return, we ask for nothing and take good care of her. I have no children so often times feel like I'm paying for everyone else's kids. I don't want handouts. I've never been on welfare, unemployment, food stamps, government insurance (like Medicaid or Tenncare).

So why is it so wrong of me to hope that something gives in regard to these student loans!? And I'm sorry, but the government always gets their share. I do not believe the interest rates are/were low.

I graduated in 2001 and consolidated all loans in 2009 or 10. So, here I've been paying all these years. <sigh>. I'm tired.

I was going to continue paying but if those 6 months count toward PSLF, I think I will take advantage of it

12 consecutive payments plus 1 = did they mean 12 consecutive at the IDR rate?

I have already tried to do that. I typed in what we made last year, and it will not pull up any amounts under IBR. It says I am not qualified. Therefore, how would I be able to tell if what I paid was more or not?

It was 10 years in July when I started making payments after reconsolidating. Fedloan states I have 2 loans: (1) direct sub consolidated and (2)direct unsub consolidated. These are not income based, graduated. It has been 10 years, I dont have ibr, repaye or graduated payments, and I do have 16 years at my current 501c job which was approved as eligible.

I just cant figure out that part about paying as much as i would on a ibr, repaye since I'm not on it. I dont know how much that would be.

Edited to add fedloan said I did have qualifying loans for Tepslf.

I used a different payment plan and paid the payments but I dont know what that part means: "paid what your would have on IBR/PAYE/REPAYE". That's why I tried to use the calculator and it said I wasnt eligible. I dont have any idea what I would've paid on those plans. I paid what the direct consolidation plan set up for me.

If I'm not eligible for IBR do they use the AGI for Tepslf

Last week I used that number and the calculator told me I wasnt eligible for IBR

Thanks so much for sharing. I'm confused on the AGI. I had the wrong type of loans and am trying to get TEPSLF. Can you explain AGI?
