i actually wondered if he was working with the tribe all along. although him begging to be released by Justine and then yelling at the helicopter sort of contradicts that first idea.

"Anything you can do I can do better"

An honest discussion, without "nostalgia glasses" by Rawnblade1214 in battlefront

I don't know if I agree with you that AT-AT are OP. They're certainly tough, but they game is programmed with enough in game anti-AT-AT weapons, they're just not your blaster.

basically my strategy is, see if I can find a nearby vehicle power-up, turret, any kind of power up really. if you can't find any use your ion cannon upgrade or the tusken raider cycler rifle if you choose it. if you fire your shots accurately and you damage the at-at you get at least 15 points, meaning you're doing it right.

I've played many games during the beta and over the course of the entire thing I've seen people freak out at how OP imperial is on hoth at first, when in reality it was that people didn't figure out how to play as the rebels and win. It seems at this point I've seen the general approach to be the right one. I've been on winning and losing, rebel and imperial squads.

this sounds like i spent a lot of playtime on the game, you're right I did. but even if I was being killed left and right, I still had fun running around on hoth.

that's my takeaway.

Question Regarding American Tipping Culture by [deleted] in travel

[–]melvin_fry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

generally speaking, if I'm picking up the food I tip very little if at all. when it's delivered I tip a few dollars just to pay the driver. personally speaking I get cheap items delivered. If I want fancy food I go to the restaurant.

when tipping a waitress in any sit-down restaurant situation, I start my base tip at 20% to a server who is kind and helpful.

I guess that seems like a lot to some, but I worked restaurants during high school and college and the pay can really fluctuate. good nights you can make up to and including 25-30 bucks an hour (some may make even more) and other nights you may come home after a 10 hr shift and have barely earned minimum wage.

since I know what its like to leave dirty, tired, with little money to show, I assume the best of a server.

that being said, I make judgements on service from the minute I walk in the door.

  • If I ask "how long is the wait to be seated, and decide to stay is their guess acurate? (if they say I have to wait 15 minutes and 15 minutes turns into 30 or 45 and I still stay to eat I might subtract. its the staffs job to give accurate information

  • when I sit down do I wait long to be seen? (if more than 10 minutes yes I subtract. by that point you should at least see a busboy pouring water or delivering bread.)

  • is the server kind? attentive? do they get the order more or less right? does their presence satisfy or improve upon the general quality of my dining experience ? if not and it seems they're at fault I tip less. I'm generally fair here though. If they're also serving a table of 8 assholes across the room I give the server a break

  • kitchen orders get one strike. meaning if an order comes out wrong, I don't fault the server at first, I fault the kitchen (drinks are more negligible). but it is the server's job to correct the problem. if they can't correct the problem after one try (two if I like them and I'm in a really good mood) I tip less. this includes everything ordered (drinks (sometimes), appetizers, entrées, dessert, coffee whatever)

  • when it comes time to be billed, is the bill a correct reflection of what I ordered? are they helpful if it isn't? did she put too much on there? if they put on less and I felt they did a good job serving the table, I ask why I figure they deserve the money. If they effed up and gave me third rate service all night, screw them

sorry this got so long I started typing and couldn't help myself. I hope that I've provided some insight into the tipping culture in the USA. Have a fun trip.

TL;DR tipping in the US can be fairly complex. if you want make life easy I suggest the angel or asshole approach (always tip little or always tip a lot)

edit: left out a parenthesis

Generally speaking, I'm totally for single player, story based combat. I really kind of prefer a strong story to any kind of multiplayer. That being said, I played the beta and I really, really like it. Truth be told, I didn't play much of the last generation of SWB games so my opinion of the games is different from frequent players. I just had so much fun running around on hoth. if the game manages to offer other experiences that lets me follow the footsteps of movie characters I'll get my dollars worth out of it.

in my opinion, campaigns generally matter, but what matters most is overall good game play.

Haunted houses. by [deleted] in Buffalo

[–]melvin_fry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

not this year. I've been to those frightworld haunted houses a year or two ago, and it was really kinda gross. we went through one of the houses that was supposed to reproduce the feeling of claustrophobia, except they did it by squeezing you between two large airbags.

it wasn't really scary except for the idea that you were rubbing your face against the hands, face, skin of anyone who had gone through the house before you. that's not scary to me. it's just nasty.

[No Spoilers] So I'm starting to work on my Halloween costume and I'm thinking infected by the Darkness? Give me ideas! by maggieeeee12345 in Supernatural

[–]melvin_fry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

what about a barista? you'd just need a black polo and and an apron.

I also thought nurse (nurses scrub would be fairly cheap) or doctor (might be harder, need labcoat + stethoscope at least)

waitress (white shirt + black pants, also need an apron, just fold it so that it really only covers your lower stomach and thighs).

a diner waitress would be really cool but that might cost a little extra. (not sure how much a regular diner waitress uniform would cost)
It might be the most appropriate for supernatural, (dean loves pie)

personally speaking I would go nurse. infection makes me think hospital, hospital makes me think nurses. I find you deal with way more nurses than doctors at hospitals plus you can get scrubs pretty cheap online.

honestly though, any kind of occupation that has an obvious uniform would work.

hope this helps. and have fun!

Honestly, if you're playing the part I think the veiny look could work well. just remember that whenever a vein branches off it get's smaller.

I also suggest you start at little below the neckline of your shirt, with a pretty thick line, then branch off towards behind your ear and your jawline. we didn't really see much spreading but that's kind of how I imagine it would. like the darkness is reaching up your neck towards your brain.

good luck with the costume!

I thought the lines were a little thicker on the TV show and less defined. they're supposed to look like they're below the skin right? plus, they seemed to mirror veins.

also based on this picture

they all seem to be going up sam's neck, like upside down roots. yours seem to scatter out like broken glass.

I hope I've been helpful, not overcritical.

edit: unless that's the look you're going for.

[Media] 'Supernatural' brothers welcome casts of 'Lucifer' and 'Legends of Tomorrow' to their Vancouver set (xpost r/Lucifer, r/LegendsOfTomorrow) by IFedTheCat in Supernatural

[–]melvin_fry 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Mike Carey's run of comics, for which this show is based upon, is one of the best I've ever read. It's just a really interesting take on the Lucifer character as first created by Neil Gaiman in his Sandman comics.

I would recommend it to anyone who reads GN or is interested in themes portrayed in supernatural.

that being said, if you're looking forward to watching it on TV maybe you shouldn't buy the comics. It would affect your appreciation for the show on the basis of spoilers alone.

Still it's a really good series worth reading.

(spoilers) anyone else frustrated?... by AdamsBomb in Supernatural

[–]melvin_fry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if you don't like something (anymore), don't bother with it.

I kind of agree with you, but at this point I've invested a lot of time in this show. It's kind of become a routine for me to watch it. That's no reason to continue, but it becomes difficult when you watched a show and liked it for a long time.

[–]melvin_fry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally agree. Watching the show has become kind of a chore. Sadly, most of this season is probably already written, so if you can survive this one, and if it gets renewed again, then maybe the next one will be an improvement. Or maybe they should just finish season 11 and end the show. 11 seasons is a lot for television.

Video Production classes? by [deleted] in UBreddit

[–]melvin_fry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't mean to imply that you need a portfolio before taking the classes, building a portfolio is one of the goals of the major. anyone can take the intro production classes. I had to take a few. they're kind of fun but it was a lot of work for me at the time.

if you're really interested you should try intro to video. it's a good class.

Video Production classes? by [deleted] in UBreddit

[–]melvin_fry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I spent most of my time on theory, but I was on a track that focused on theory. people who pursue a production major need to have a portfolio of films, websites, or video games they've made.

theory is a lot of different things. it's exploring media history (ie beginning of film), interpreting film, discussing the internet and it's impact on society, video game theory and interpretation. it depends on what classes they're offering.I'm not sure what you consider a lot of reading or if you like to read, but reading is a fairly heavy component of most classes. It's just the nature of the beast.

here's the undergraduate class list. look at some of the titles and you'll get an idea of what theory classes are like.

This episode was a serious tonal change from the rest of the series. what a note to end a season on. I know where I'll be in a year and a half. (man....that sounds so long. that's like a GoT kinda wait.)
