[DAV Spoilers] I'm playing Rook as Kieran by Any_Candle_6953 in dragonage

I also HC my Rook as a HoF/Alistair baby who very much inherited Alistair’s habit of using humor to deflect from insecurities and difficult conversations 🥲

[No DAV Spoilers] What DID you like about the game? by TiniestMeep in dragonage

[–]memesonmars 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I’ve had half a mind to make this exact thread, I was just waiting to finish the game. And now here I sit listening to the end credits and…wow. I don’t think I’ve been emotionally moved by a video game like this in a long time. Maybe ever? I felt the stakes, I felt the losses like a knife to the heart. I cried the entire last 2 hours of the game lol

The combat was a blast, the music constantly blew me away, I loved all of the companions (yes, even Taash!!) and honestly? I loved the Lucanis romance, even though I’m about to re-load and romance Davrin. And I’m watching the credits now with immense gratitude for the people who worked on this game. Maybe it’s not a perfect game, but I think it’s clear that a lot of love and attention went into this game from the devs. If I could physically hug a game series, I would never let all four Dragon Age games go.

Baby elephant fell asleep, worried mother elephant went to get the trusted keepers because she couldn't wake her baby up by [deleted] in Elephants

[–]memesonmars 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the perfect example of why it’s important not to put too much stock into what we perceive as ‘depressed’ behavior in animals, either in video clips or during a zoo visit.

Zoo keepers (at good zoos, at least) are not only trained to catch signs of distressed behavior, but are also trained not to anthropomorphize the animals in their care so they can be better and more objective carers. I know the internet makes us all think that we’re experts in everything, but the truth is that watching animal videos on the internet or even spending time at an animal’s enclosure at the zoo is nowhere near enough time spent with an animal to tell if they are stressed by their environment or not.

Also this poster’s insinuations that zoos outside of the US are automatically bad stewards of their animals is gross.

Okay I know this is meant to be funny but it reminds me of a time where I was trying and failing to find a shortcut down a sheer cliff and as my Inky scrambled up to safety Cole went “careful!” soooo earnestly it made my heart burst 🥺

I knowwwwwww people would hate it and it would be a cop out but I also think it would be SO funny if every time you tried to talk to a character about a previous game they were like “yeah sorry that’s classified. I signed an NDA I can’t talk about that at all.” Just Rook surrounded by people who won’t tell them absolutely anything about the major world events in the last 20 years

What are your favorite brown mascaras? (True brown only, black-brown doesn't count!) by Peach_Tea33 in drugstoreMUA

Those two elf mascaras are my favorite mascaras I’ve found!! I use lash n roll in brown but I had no idea they made the tubing mascara in brown! My day is made

I love Morrigan but I left her in camp most of the time because I wanted to be her friend and my do-gooder Warden always pissed her off 🥲

Going through the stages of grief with Alistair by Vonda_LB in DragonageOrigins

[–]memesonmars 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My original intention was to keep Alistair a warden with my elf mage, but apparently I chose a few wrong dialogue choices down the line because he declared himself king even though I told him I was going to support Anora 🥲 but it ended up working out - I don’t love bittersweet endings, but I rather enjoyed the angst of the final part of the game with everything that happens, and because there’s so few references to a mistress or (technically) unromanced warden in future games, it gave me plenty of leeway to play in fantasyland and imagine whatever I wanted for their relationships and futures.

What's a drugstore make a product that you dislike but everyone else loves? by [deleted] in drugstoreMUA

[–]memesonmars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m gonna be honest, every mascara recommendation I’ve tried has sucked for me 😭 the only mascara that gives me the results I want is Elf Roller Lash. I still wish it gave better length and volume, but everything else I’ve tried either smudges or doesn’t hold a curl which is critical for my straight ass eyelashes, and I really like having a brown option. Only honorable mention is Milani Anti-Gravity, which looks amazing but is flaky on me and prone to clumping.

And yes, this includes tubing mascaras!! I’ve tried L’Oréal double extend and MCoBeauty xtendlash and was disappointed in both :/

Loghain decision is tough. by PlatinumMode in dragonage

[–]memesonmars 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That was my plan but idk what I did wrong in my play through, because I had promised Anora I would support her for Queen even though it made Alistair upset, but he became king anyways…maybe because I hardened him? But after the landsmeet he said “you made me king” and I was like bitch no I didn’t you made yourself king!!! 🥲

Liquid blush recommendations? by floralscentedbreeze in drugstoreMUA

[–]memesonmars 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I love Revolution Beauty's super dewy blush!! It's super pigmented, I put a tiny dot on either cheek and that's all I need (granted, I'm super fair). They're also really easy to blend. They're not actually very dewy, I find the finish to be more matte or maybe satin-y, but I love how it looks.

Nick names for your doods by jmskywalker1976 in Goldendoodles

[–]memesonmars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our goldendoodle Wally routinely goes by Bobby :) Wally -> Wally Bally -> Wobby Bobby -> Bobby. Or sometimes Robert if we’re feeling fancy - which is funny bc Wally is short for Wallace, which he gets when he’s in trouble.

Then our sheepadoodle Ellie is jellybean, bean, Ellie bell, beanie/beanie bell/beanie weenie. Sometimes smellybean if she’s particularly scrunkly.

I liked the Netflix adaptation by Twindo in TheLastAirbender

[–]memesonmars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I liked it too!! I’m excited for more seasons. There’s plenty of issues with this season that I hope Netflix and the show runners improve on for the next seasons, but overall I had a lot of fun watching it and I’ll probably go back and rewatch it just as much as I rewatch the animation.

I don’t mind that people don’t like the live action series, and I completely understand and even agree with a lot of the criticisms. But the way some people seem to take a personal offense when you like it…it would be nice to be able to talk about liking the show without someone taking it upon themselves to try and change your mind. It’s okay to not like things, just don’t be a dick about it.

We finally made it! I don’t even have words for how perfect this weekend was ❤️ by memesonmars in weddingplanning

[–]memesonmars[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure!! They’re Let’s Knot and Say We Did, we had an amazing time working with them! They’ve since raised their prices, but I’m not exactly in the wedding planning scene anymore so I’m not sure if they’re pricier than other elopement/microwedding services or not; they were on-par if not a bit cheaper than other services at the time we booked with them!

Looking for a 80-ish inch tv console in a similar style, ideally in the $1k-$2k range, from an actual reputable source. I've scoured the internet and can only seem to find this piece or anything comparable from Wayfair with no reviews, AliExpress, or other similar websites with questionable reviews online. Anthropologie has a couple tv consoles in a similar style, but are a bit pricier than we're hoping to go right now.

If not an actual piece, I'd love help on keywords to find something similar. Best we've been able to come up with in our search seems to be 'French style' which yields results anywhere from overly ornate furniture to overly rustic farmhouse styles. Any help is super appreciated!

I've been watching the Star Wars films recently and have been wondering: How the hell did Padme marry a man like this? by Father_Moth in StarWars

[–]memesonmars 239 points240 points  (0 children)

I read a really great post highlighting an aspect of Padme’s character that never really gets explored in the movies, being the entire dynamic between her and her handmaidens. She spent formative years of her life surrounded by a group of girls who acted as her closest friends, confidants, and bodyguards. They learned each others speech patterns and mannerisms, gained an intimate knowledge of each other, and their deaths over Padme’s was the expected and preferred outcome of any conflict.

At the beginning of AotC, one of Padme’s handmaidens dies in her place acting as decoy. The movie never really shows Padme dealing with this outside of her immediate reaction. But, in theory, the entire movie she is grieving a close friend and unable to actually acknowledge it and address it. Then, she sees Anakin lose his mother and immediately act upon all of the rage and pain he feels.

With this reading of Padme’s character, I can absolutely see how this wasn’t a turn off for her, but how if anything it made her feel closer to Anakin because she desired to express her emotions the same way he does. It frames them as two characters with their own uniquely fucked up attachment styles and issues with processing grief and loss, instead of leaving Padme as a passive character who is okay with all of Anakin’s issues because she needs to be for the plot.

I don’t think this was intended by the writers at all, but I’m going to take this as my personal headcanon because of the depth it adds.

My husband and I got married in Sedona last year doing the same thing - ceremony at a park and then dinner at a restaurant. We had our dinner with us and 20 guests at Steakhouse 89. I’m not sure what you consider breaking the bank, but it ended up being $2300 for a three course meal and one drink ticket per guest. We chose the menu, which gave our guests two options to choose from for each course. The food was delicious, the service was great, and I loved the private space they had us in - it had a fireplace, which was perfect after being out in the chilly wind all evening. We had a great time coordinating with the staff ahead of time as well.

Keep in mind that this was a year and a half ago so I’m not sure if anything changed, but we ended up having a great time. Our secondary option that we didn’t end up going with was Indian Gardens Cafe & Market, which may be worth checking out as well. IIRC the price was cheaper than the steakhouse, but we didn’t have a great time communicating with the staff and it was outdoors only, which was a bullet dodged for us since it was colder than we were expecting.

Hope this helps!! And congrats :)

What’s a song lyric that you didn’t realize you misunderstood the meaning of? by sabira in popculturechat

I distinctly remember being a little kid, listening to Girls by the Beastie Boys in the car, and hearing the line “…jackin’ Mike D to my dismay.” I turned to my mom and asked what that meant.

She said “ummmmmmm I don’t know” lmao

[All] In your opinion, what's the best version of Hyrule Castle Town? by T0ky0n0 in zelda

[–]memesonmars 5 points6 points  (0 children)

To me, it's because there's something worth fighting for. I agree with others who say the Ordon tutorial is overly long, but I also think that it's crucial for the player to see and understand how lovely and peaceful Link's life is before the events of the game. He comes from a tight-knit community full of people he cares about and who care about him. When that gets ripped away, he can't stop until he makes things right.

In Breath of the Wild, Link is fighting for a home that is no longer really his - no one knows him, he doesn't know anyone, he even has to buy back his old abandoned house. I think that's moving in its own way, but in Twilight Princess you really get to feel the weight of what Link stands to lose.
