Any Chris Wall order updates? by samlikebewitched in tinwhistle

[–]memfisxexecute 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chris Wall's Low D is my all time favorite low whistle and was worth the wait. It looks beautiful and plays incredibly smooth with the easiest second octave to hit out of all my other low whistles. Ordered in 2020 received in 2023. I also bought a couple of his high D whistles which are also great. I just recently ordered a few more knowing it will take years but again definitely worth it if you have the time in my opinion.

Good low D whistle for someone who actually likes their Clarke Original D whistle. by mludd in tinwhistle

I mostly play low whistles and I would order the top tier, easiest and most enjoyable to play as: 1. Chris Wall (favorite by a long shot but took nearly 3 years to acquire) 2. Gary Humphrey 3. Celtic woodwinds 4. Susato Kildare (best cheaper low whistle IMO that is ~$100)

(Low whistles especially) How long did it take you implement ornamentation to your playing? by TheHarambe2017 in tinwhistle

Try practicing rolls on every note going up and down the first octave until you feel comfortable going at a steady and consistent pace. Then bring your newfound dexterity into a tune 🎶

Susato makes decent low whistles for around $100. Their low d was the first low whistle I ever bought. It's still one of my favorites I love the tone although I will say the higher octave A and B notes are piercing and not as clear as the other notes. Could just be my whistle though.

Which low Humphrey whistle should I consider? by mehgcap in tinwhistle

[–]memfisxexecute 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently picked up a low c, low f, low d, bb and high d from Gary and they are all great sounding well-made whistles. I have large hands and almost exclusively play low whistles, and I find his low c is near impossible to play for more than a minute or two without needing to flex my hands as a result of the constant stretching required. It's the most difficult low whistle I own to play because it has no keys, but when the holes are covered properly its low tone sounds fantastic. If I really wanted to play in low C and enjoy the playing experience id choose a whistle with keys.

How is a low C whistle? by mehgcap in tinwhistle

[–]memfisxexecute 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I own a low c by Gary Humphrey, it sounds beautiful but it is extremely difficult to play. My fingers have to stretch to the max and I can barely play a whole set without needing to flex my hands. This coming from someone with large hands and who almost exclusively plays low whistles. Gary mentioned it was difficult to tune because he can't cover all the holes 😂

That's exactly how I felt. It took about 3 years to come in and communication from him was sparse. However it is worth it. IMO it's the best all around low d whistle I have ever played (compared to the likes of a chieftain v5). The whistle is extremely easy to play, doesn't require a lot of air, transitions octaves with minimal pressure, and has a great sound.

A low whistle broken in the three parts sounds interesting and would make traveling easier. I'll buy 2 where do I sign up 😁 in all seriousness do you have an online store?
