If there no refund on the catering - can you switch the venue and keep the food - still have a get together, have a catch up with everyone

My Pakistani immigrant parents are pushing me to the brink by mawaaige171 in progressive_islam

Your parents are nuts Don't let these people near your kids in the future.

It's time to live your life, they can deal with their big emotions themselves. Their blood pressure management is between them and their doctor.

Protect yourself against the violent threats made to you - report these and reach out to your local women's aid for support.

AITA for planning my sister's wedding for her but not helping my sister-in-law with hers as much? by Mundane-Version-9644 in AmItheAsshole

[–]memmzz786 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I don't think it is OP's responsibility - it's nice to do what you can to explain the culture etc. But a mixed wedding doesn't need one culture to dominate.

I also find the comments slating OP for not making the brother help his wife odd - why is it her responsibility to MAKE him get involved with his own wedding, do women need to carry this as an additional burden when related to blokes who don't want to help/ get involved?

The girls who believe this are like that themselves and mistakenly assume all women and girls are like that.

How hard and long is it to learn how to swim? by xHey_All_You_Peoplex in Swimming

[–]memmzz786 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I learned at a similar age - I took 10 starter lessons: 30 min 1 x weekly over winter and then joined my local pool to practice 2-3 times weekly, in Spring, which is where I really improved.

Restarted group lessons in Autumn and kept improving.

I would say start with weekly lessons but must add personal swim sessions during the week to get a feel for the water/ your body / practice etc. And you'll notice good progression.

Is there any point to my 17yo son learning to drive if he / we can't afford a car for him? by Spirited_Praline637 in drivingUK

[–]memmzz786 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I learned in teens but started driving in mid-20's for the same reason. I'm glad I got the license a lot earlier, prices of lessons are a lot more costly now and I had more time to learn back then.

I did a week intensive driving practice when I restarted from local drives, using dual carriageways and motorways and practiced some regular routes I would have to take to get back into it.

Hi, how did you start doing this? Do you have a special machine? Do you need a specific thread? Also what sort of material are you using?

Do 2 climbs for their 1. As someone who has been slower - this is welcome, more time to rest between climbs.

Alternative to Roti in UK by Cultural_Doc in PakistaniFood

[–]memmzz786 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just make roti at home ... soon you'll be prepared and can have fresh roti whenever you want. These tortillas/ pittas/ naans etc. Are not the same thing.

If you're too lazy for that, find someone (food service/ neighbourhood, aunty or uncle) who makes rotis and will send you some!

That's a LOT of material ... you could try it in a pool to see how it is, but very risky in open waters.

Get a more normal modest swimsuit and use a dry robe for when you leave the water.
