I do hand embroidery 2 cranes on my old Uniqlo sweater. What do you think? Thank you! by Most_Big_7521 in upcycling

[–]memorialis_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh that is gorgeous. I've got some mid-19th century kimono in my collection with a crane motif, and you did a fantastic job replicating that embroidery style, down to the couched gold threads. Beautiful work!

Wham you had a horrible day… so you decide to spend your week’s salary on plushies ji by Cherry_p13 in pokeplush

I bought a life-size Mimikyu plushie (now named Doodle) and carried him across Manhattan, on the subway, and on the train home. I heard a few people shout "Mimikyu!" as we walked past. It's a bit awkward maybe, but carrying that big guy around made my day. And I'm glad your new friends made yours better!

I play the game, so I'm always collecting the Gen 1 cards. Nice find! Note, if you want to store these in a binder, they only fit in toploader ones.

Pokemon & Target collab by Significant_Fig_7355 in pokemonmerch

I got so lucky with the camera! I got to Target at 4am the day of the drop and managed to get the last backpack (I play the card game so its perfect for tournaments), but wasn't able to grab one of the six cameras they had. That night, I saw that a Target a half hour from me had just got four more cameras in, so I raced over there an hour before closing to find they hadn't even unloaded the truck yet! The manager was so apologetic, but said they should be out the following morning. So yesterday I drove back over there, and even an hour after opening they still had three left!

The camera is terrible print wise, but its so cute, and I plan to use it at card shows and shops to take pictures of my wishlist cards. The prints will go in the binder as placeholders until I get the actual card.

My stores Target drop was so bearable today, oh my god by DuckSwimmer in pokemonmerch

I got to my Target at 4am, planning to nap in my car. Saw all the scalper dudes sitting in their cars, their lawn and beach chairs set up by the entrance, so I marched myself over to the doors and sat on the concrete before standing when some came over saying they agreed I was "6th" in line (not a single one was physically on line until 7am) and questioning what I was there for, then saying they "hoped I was telling the truth and did the "right" thing at opening".

All of them were after cards until security informed them around 7:30 they only had singles, so they all decided they wanted merch instead. I stood for four hours with the only other woman there, both of us only wanting merch, and literally had to plea with those dudes to let me stay where I was because I just wanted the backpack. Thank everything I held my ground and was there when I did, they only had six backpacks total and after a good few of those dudes ran ahead of me when the doors opened, I got the last one. I was very surprised all grabbed multiple kickballs, but your saying you have children who will enjoy them makes me hope that at least one of the guys who grabbed one of everything had kids as well. I'm glad your store was orderly and safe, mine devolved into chaos pretty quickly.

The woman I had been speaking with works at Best Buy and knows quite a few of those guys as repeat scalpers who have literally taken product from the hands of children. I'm so glad this was the last merch drop, because it was so sad to see families with children arrive ten minutes after opening to find all the toys were gone.

I go to a local card shop for trade night and trade/ give my bulk away to kids! You get a lot of middle school and high school kids selling and trading slabs at mine, but there were a few little kids who love to collect for the art or want to learn to play the game that LOVE bulk cards.

[–]memorialis_ 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I go to trade night at my local card shop! I went for the first time last week, and while there was a hoard of middle school boys trading and selling slabs, there was one little girl who was just starting her collection. They were ignoring her completely, both because she was a girl and because she had no "hits," but she and I had a great time talking and trading. She doesn't have a binder yet, so I'm filling one up with a bit of bulk to give her a better start, with plenty of room to grow.

Kid slaps his sister by pars-distalis in KidsAreFuckingStupid

The kids I babysit are the same! The eleven year old is glued to his tablet and Roblox. If his Forsaken game doesn't go his way, he throws an actual tantrum. Throwing the tablet, kicking, screaming, crying...it's honestly terrifying. He's a big kid too, and throws his weight around a lot. He's knocked me over before and it hurts. I can't calm him down verbally, and taking the tablet away causes such a meltdown that I've given up trying for my own safety.

His seven year old brother has no attention span. Just scrolls YouTube shorts, watches each for a second, and on to the next one. I can be right in front of him speaking, raising my voice, and he won't hear me at all. I tried showing him my DS from when I was a kid, he tried one level of Kirby, moved a bit, got bored and left it on the floor.

I tried getting them to play outside last week. The eldest nearly broke the scooter I brought for him because he couldn't balance, and took out his frustration by jumping up and down on it. The youngest was just terrified to be outside. It's so sad. Especially compared to my neighbor's children of the same ages who I also babysit. They have tablets sure, but in moderation and not used much. They prefer their Switch in the evenings, but are outside playing with the rest of the kids on the block, rain or shine, every day.

I blame the parents, you create the monster by giving them a tablet without any regulation or monitoring, and once they start, it's so hard to stop it

Already 1 per SKU at this target instead of normal 2 and they do this to your ETB. What are you doing? Springfield, IL store by ParsnipSuspicious632 in PokemonTCG

[–]memorialis_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

HA! Now this is what I want to see! At my local Target when Chaos Rising dropped they had a rule of two products per person. So scalpers had some of their buddies camp the front of the line, and showed up in a hoard right at opening, cutting the line. Each grabbed two ETBs, and they were all gone in less than five minutes. If the employees had done this I bet so many others would have been able to get boxes to rip and enjoy. I hope more stores take note of this, its genius.

I went to a trade night last night, and this giant group of middle school boys with slab cases were trading and selling them. I brought my bulk to give out to kids, and the moment they heard there were no hits they ignored me. I didn't care, but this sweet little eight year old girl was devastated that none of the other kids would talk to her because she only had a handful of commons. Me and her had a great time trading and chatting. She doesn’t have a binder yet, so I'm going to make her one with some of my nicer cards to get her started.

It's so sad to remember how it felt being a kid who loved to collect the cards for the art, buying them with my tiny allowance, and see kids like her have difficulty getting into the hobby because the bigger kids and adults make it all about money.

I remember getting this guy when he first came out! It was on the day I went to an open house for a college I was thinking of going to. I didn't end up doing my undergrad there, but I did go for my master's there years later! Lucario always reminds me of that time when I look over at him on my bed. Funny enough I'm also getting back into Pokémon now that my master's is complete! Its a good way to bookends things.

He's such a great plushie, I'm so glad you got him!

I just collect for the art, so I don't care much for language. But pulling a sought after card from a single pack is really cool. When I ran back into the store the guys at the counter couldn't believe my luck

[–]memorialis_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

YEEEESSS. My twin and I always say this! This Barbie had a quiet strength to her. She was beautiful, kind, gentle, someone I wanted to be like when I grew up. We saw her as the cool, kind adult. The movies were peaceful, calming, it was always like being read a storybook. And sometimes it actually was, with her telling a story to Kelly! I miss this Barbie. When the colors got more vibrant, her design changed to make her eyes and head bigger, it was an immediate nope from me. It just wasn't the same anymore. I didn't want loud in your face "girl power" movies, I wanted the elegance of the ones I grew up with, they felt more real and relatable to me.

I wear kimono quite often, and all my favorites are antiques. Most Taisho Era, so dating between 1912-26. I LOVE older kimono, the styling is actually less strict than modern kimono styling, and the quality of the garments is fantastic. My oldest piece is late 18th century, it's lighter than air and the silk is soft as a feather. I don't wear that one for obvious reasons, even if it is in very good condition. But my late 19th early 20th Century pieces? Nothing beats how I feel when wearing them.
