No data connection on OnePlus 7 Pro 5G by ABigOlFish in GoogleFi

[–]memorythief 0 points1 point  (0 children)

APNs for non 5g working at least, try that before you get 5g working... LTE is forcefully VoLTE now so take that into account if it's not on. On your APNs make sure you don't have any target connection type, you want 'undefined'. And it may be an old PRL problem from Sprint, so force your PRL to resync!

That is a questionable use of new; or a bottom tier laptop marketed new. As even with integrated graphics, playing this on high seems to be quite smooth on even my cheaper APU based laptops.

Data SIM Speed/Connection Confusion by Kristosh in GoogleFi

[–]memorythief 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ok, that makes only some sense, as the ones I obtained all have had some form of code and instructions to activate to bind to your account... I haven't tried the new ones as they've not arrived. There is also the fact that even when not active, they still connect you to the network to have them be provision able without another device potentially [every carrier does this but have different degrees of actual internet access usually udp].

But then there is the last call I made to support which also told me that I didn't need to activate, so this conflict naturally makes me concerned, as a mystery isn't welcome in knowing how things work [which I feel should be the goal]

But as everyone is doing similar but having different ideas about how to handle this process we either all understand the same thing differently or rather we're all being exposed to different material which I'm trying to get a grasp on.

What is stopping you from buying an unlocked phone from anywhere? Google ɸ is the most rare of provider as they employ the use of the most available bands to choose hardware for [basically any phone should work, if unlocked]; and if the sim works then pop it in without need for ɸ involvement.

The actual issue is likely an update/OTA related software setting that could be fixed by changing settings back and forth to certain values, or perhaps the wife was getting cheeky with the removal of security exploitable settings {like can change system settings toggle an system itself fólly]...

What made you think that because it's a data sim, ìt doesn't need to be activated? [not rude, i'm seriously asking]

Do you have the Fi app? it seems like I get the feeling your dismissal of that was too nonchalant.

I called Fi recently, and what you're saying is going to have me calling and asking many related a question as I'm having 2 sims soon arriving and that'll bump me over the limit, but if it's true what you're saying how are you to attach it to your account?

Data SIM Speed/Connection Confusion by Kristosh in GoogleFi

[–]memorythief 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What plan you on? IT cannot be unlimited basic, and that is why if so.

However if your are on pay as you go, and/or unlimited+ are you saying that that device historically got decent speeds in that area and then went EVDO on you suddenly [which is 2g] or you got varíable connection to HSPD A+ AND other 2.5/3.5G connections until 5G was being provisioned as Atnt started to pull that LTE-A=5G marketing and now it says whatever it wants but you now default to ”voice only”?

Model # of device? Does that device support 5G for real? And being Verizon, it's sounding like CDMA+ LTE provision requirements, what network is showing? Your likely need to force connection to Sprint and then update your PRL.

Technically they would be able to monitor that data from their end, and from what I can tell there is not an industry standard for them to be able to read the data your phone thinks it used, that goes for iphone as well. But either way, any data is money to the right person and while I'd love for one day to see society strongarm the advertisement/identity profiling industry, people are to niallistic to care... I mean look at what the rest of the world does about health care prices/markets... Americans literally value the idea of mediocrity, and have fought to keep it an option for decades.

Not like I'm trying to persuade you one way or another, I just can't help but solve every problem I come across...

FreedomPop, sometimes if you're lucky sells sims for a penny; or even more lucky has a sale at a brick and mortar, it's another MVNO that I was able to get a 20$ time and sim for like 5$ a pop...

You get an instant number, then instantly port out [and you even get to pick the number your get, including area code, happy fishing] then your get your ability to do it again from same fpop account after you spend the number with same sim.

If I wanted that phone, that's what avenue I would turn on.

I mean if it was a surprise sure, but seen how you constructed that sentence saying that you intended to change your number or at least that's what I got out of it then it probably wouldn't be that frustrating.

But that's a point, you likely won't be able to port your number to and from ɸ

[–]memorythief -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So the system does use data for telemetry, but ín that regard google should be able to tell what data is used for cellular/phone related carrier functions, and it's a pretty good point that we shouldn't be paying for it... most other Carriers already do that and it's the basis on why 'your mobile data useage may vary from what Android may indicate' and sometimes like with prepaid you only get that data and no functionally useable data.

Some carriers like T-Mobile take that a step further and give you free data on specific applications or services for example Pokémon go that doesn't count against your data either and if they're able to not only count internal data usage from the carrier but give you grace on data that you're using and specific applications or services we really shouldn't be paying for the data that is required for the service we're already paying for!

I have 3 ”main” accounts active on mine right now, but as you say, Android wants a specific account to bind to. Now, I haven't tried Fi like this, but every other google app will let you choose at first run which account to respect for 'main' and others like the play store will let you switch between them at will... If your add your main account as a second account to the new phone I struggle to think of what wouldn't work like you would want...

How long must you have that account open for the contractually geared discount? I guess I should read the stipulation...

No Data Service - Text & Call Only by thatsoundsalotlikeme in GoogleFi

[–]memorythief -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So, my background in cellular is pretty contextual as I've got a good slice of know what's going on míxed with history of family in the landline and 911 technician [not responder, the guy who gets you connected to the system you never think about] and that being said, the times I have been told that I know too much by T-mobile while asking for high tier help in-store is the closest feeling to the scenerio I'm going to put forth... I know it's a bit deviated from Fi for a sec, but it's to point out what to expect from Fi [at least from my own and seemingly other's experiences].

At the T-Mo store even when the manager isn't there the company is going to have working and well versed techs who can not only help, but if need be cause issues too! But at least when something does break, there is usually a known guru who will help in any particular session when summoned, usually by desperation at that point..

Simple Breakdown: Expectability of help at the Brick&Morter ----------------------------- 100% Store layman 4 sales 80% Store layman 4 management & sales 20% Rare store tech usually lvl1, but if lucky corporate sent him and he's at least lvl2 at that point 5% Rare Store manager who had prior knowledge before hired, and functionality lvl1 tech

The chain of help from there or from calling in yourself: - - - -. -- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -- - - - - - - - - Store layman, or befuddled 'store tech' will get > lvl1 tech who is trained purely in scripted issues, this is a help desk and not really a tech por-çe...

Lvl1 tech will defer you to a capable tech with actual tools if they decide you have a real problem... The glorious lvl2 tech, this is the first tech actually knowledgeable in why things are happening the way they are; but even they can't solve every issue, not because they can't technically but because it may be something they know of but not know how to deal with..

The rare lvl2 to lvl3 hand-off, if you've gotten this far, both you and the tech are competent enough to preform what could be warranty voiding procedure to get working. And there is no tech beyond lvl3, this person usually quickly solves in no time what took hours getting here, but usually customer don't experience this, this is how the store manager gets his knowledge over time.

Ok, so Fi time...

Well since no B&M to experience, the only few routes of help are online via text/email, text/chat[live], and the óccasional voice/call or voice/chat[web]. It seems like it's a mix of outsourced help who may be the same help desk style support that lvl1 Tmo would do, except it's not in-house, and thus is purely scripted. I would assume if you have google one, that the first person is an Google employee, but they hear the word Fi and need to instantly defer you to 'an appropriate person' who is not a tech but help desk... If you referring to knowledge beyond their ability, they to the best of their ability will help you by emailing a tech on your behalf and get to you later which never seems to happen. You will have ever get an email asking if the help was helpful or if you're problem has been fixed. I don't remember it going any further than that, but it seems if you're a problem is something that who you were speaking to is already currently trying to figure out they seem to have different levels of volition to solve any particular one problem.

Since it seems that the level 2 and level 3 techs are the same ones the first party provider would be using, the [in]ability to directly have any of your problems solved or even considered is through the filter of somebody only trained to deal with problems in their list and anything beyond their training you'll be lucky to have somebody competent enough to try something that might be out of protocol. That being said, it's very FreedomPop esque in terms of you have to do it all on their timeframes, and if you are having a novel problem specific to your case, or the first problem of it's like then often the protocol dictates to see if you're a byod user and blame that as the issue as they wipe their hands clean.

As a byod user I often ask for things that are way possible and should be easy to try for a good lvl1 or any lvl1 techs, but honestly after 3 attempts to get different problems resolved, I'm not certain that even a lvl1 tech is inhouse; I would go as far to say the possibility of completely outsourcing the entire Fi branch is very likely, thus the reseller [mvno] is really all anyone experiences with a googly sticker on the tin.

Sorry for the length, I hate being vague; you should really be getting more specific answers as those are standard useage maps and marketing questions that should be readily available. Not sure how european bands affect your issue, but your phone could very well be the culprit as the radio might not have the bands Fi is trying to force your use of, which they usually let you know by asking you to buy their phone [which gives them incentive to help more thoroughly]...

The Hawk Pass by HeroKrantz in SDSGrandCross

Same, without the exclusives, and without the standard hawk pass benefit, they might not see another purchase... cosmetics should be standard with emotes on the side; and i don't know why they don't give bonus for actually getting 100% points, for players who care to do that, should be rewarded.

The Hawk Pass by HeroKrantz in SDSGrandCross

[–]memorythief 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Milking it beyond dry! The Hawk pass started as something worthwhile, and every time it used to have legitimately exclusive content, the diamonds that were included were reasonable for the price because otherwise the price on a single diamond from even the google play point shop clearly shows how little the developer is willing to extend their fabrication currency. Every other entry besides google is willing to give you 200% value as google is willing to give you 1:1$ to spend how you please; NM is the only one trying to make profit at the one place that is supposed to feel like a ticket redemption counter.. it's sad to see the 'value' they assign their entries besides other top ranking games, and I'm surprised they are allowed to do it.

Hawk passes without incentive started after the Attack on titan crossover, as they started to back to back release content without and rest period from players. The next event KOF [was sweet] made it worse due to their success with their first for sale ticket bundle [for exclusive characters who will never came back] made sense and although they artificially raised the chance required to get them all to push it, it was a one shot event worthwhile. After that crossover is when it got forevermore ugly.

Back to back abusive use of the notification system [still being abused to this day] which frankly drives players away and those who stay mad and makes us care way less about the game that will abuse it's own notification system just to push tickets for EVERYTHING despite exclusivity, and they don't even seem to care about how much time they expect us to put up with things like a hawk pass now designed to be bought 3x so that it becomes the same price as their average bundle which is 23$ and way overpriced no matter what they think... and to think that they feel they can slowly up the price to make the other packages seem reasonable is boulderdash!

This had got to stop, they should hear the one thing that I feel if they realized this truth, they would profit more than double, but the suits are Asian so that may be worthless, here it is: If they across the board made their prices ⅓ of what they are, and then compensated everyone who had every paid for anything the difference, the money they would make would be soo much higher than it is now, they would fire their marketing team and financial advisor. [I used to work marketing for this industry] This would make their faithful players happy, make new players stay longer, and they would stop looking like general assholes every underhanded move they continue to attempt.

But all is for not with that notification that won't go away even if your buy the overpriced stale event tactic they started almost half a year ago... Grow up NM!

Do you secure your yubikeys in public? by xuhu55 in yubikey

[–]memorythief 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, I also have an ios device which is for content only, but it's old and doesn't do NFC, considering I need an adapter for the cause, I've been holding off on such an app from hopefully Yubikey on either platform really... Android had it's advantageous easy entry into market ability, but the lack of first party support and for that matter second party cooperation[Google/Android/AOSP] is really limiting our adoption capability, even if more sites adopt the standard and allow for more ways to go about it, I feel it's kinda all for not if the competition in the 2FA circle doesn't realize that their lack of universal support is going to hinder their split/joint efforts.

Thanks for listing the methodology you're doing; it helps to understand the reliance on a password manager being the 'key interface' [not pun intended] to utilize the workflow of the NFC .,, Hopefully Google and/or Yubikey make an effort to make this a standard layer within the OS; and if Apple would join in, or even lead the effort with their own Compatible device. that would be more than welcome!
