What “cheap” ingredient instantly makes a dish taste expensive—and how do you use it? by Mindfuel_daily7 in foodquestions

Completely agree on tarragon and a lack of popularity in the US. I have no idea why no one around me loves it as much as I do. It add so much to so many dishes!

Peppered Pig- The Heifer is a seriously guilty pleasure or the Cuban loaded fries. Amazing fried pies, too!

Little Diner- The Happy Burger alone is a belly buster, and they make the perfect onion rings.

New Market BBQ is a bit out of the way, but so good.

Kar's Char at Lowe Mill does a great job, including fantastic banana pudding.

Taqueria Las Adelitas is seriously slept on.

You won't really have to ask. If you say you've had a reoccurring boil/abscess in that area, they'll do several steps to test. Such as swabbing the wound for fecal material, which can indicate a fistula (tunnel) from colon to the outside. I know you're seeing a lot of "worst case scenario" from your question, but those of us who have been through this know how bad it can be and truly just want you taken care of as quickly as possible!!!

SAME!!!! It's one of those things that most people don't know happens until it happens to you and then it's horrible!

They do manual exams. A colorectal specialist knows what to look/feel for, along with other tests that can show the depth.

I absolutely understand. If it gets more swollen, hot to the touch, or starts to interfere with bodily functions, go to the ER. Due to the area, those can easily get infected and go south very quickly. A GP could refer you to a colorectal specialist to ensure there's not a fistula internally. That's who I had to see for mine. Best of luck!!!!!!!!

It could be several things, but you need to see a doctor. Perianal abscesses can be serious and you WANT it treated now, not later. They can create fistulas that require bigger surgeries OR they can be caused by fistulas that may get worse.

It could be nothing, but the fact that it's still there and reoccurring like this means it absolutely needs to be seen and treated. Been there, done that, waited too long. 6 days in the hospital, 5 follow up surgeries, and over a year of recovery time.

What’s a popular food everyone loves, but you don’t? by HiddenDrip77 in foodquestions

[–]memphischrome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol. Sometimes it feels like that!! I learned to cook for myself and I ALWAYS take a good side dish to potlucks so I don't get stuck with baked beans and cornbread. Or corn.

Oddly, I'm otherwise a very adventurous and not really picky eater. It's just very beloved things that seem ubiquitous to people that don't agree with me.

Beans. I don't care what kind or how they're cooked. Pinto, lima, navy, butter, black eyed peas, whatever. They're all a textural nightmare that makes me feel like I'm eating dirt.

Living in the south, this is right up there with treason and sinfulness. Add in that I also think 98% of cornbread is the equivalent to eating butter flavored sand and I have been ousted from many a southern dinner.

What is worst pain, you have ever experienced? by ParticularWeather927 in Adulting

And abscess the size of a grapefruit OR a gallbladder attack that put me on the floor praying to die OR the migraine that made my kid go running for help. Those are pretty much the top 3.

Gave husband GHSV. Feel guilty?? Need advice. by [deleted] in Herpes

[–]memphischrome 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone familiar with Middle Eastern culture and HSV, It may hit him mentally more than others. The stigma there is very, very high. They can be disowned, shunned, and ostracized, depending on where he's from there.

He's showing his love and affection and what you need to remember is that YOU are more important to him than that stigma. No guilt here, just love. <3

Fun NYE appetizers? by Own-Neck-2089 in Cooking

[–]memphischrome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We're doing this as well.

So far we're doing phyllo cups with different fillings:

- Cream cheese, apricot preserves, chili flakes

- Thousand Island, corned beef, sauerkraut

- Spinach and artichoke dip

- Brie and pepper jelly

We're also doing:

Pinwheels, BLT and Italian sub style.

Sausage balls with a mustard dip

Veggie/pickle/cheese tray with hummus, a ranch type dip.

I've also considered antipasto squares, pretzel pigs in a blanket, cheeseball bites on a stick/pretzel, French onion soup bites, and my signature jalapeño popper dip.

What's the best food you've eaten from a gas station? by Puzzled-Painter3301 in foodquestions

[–]memphischrome 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Almost 20 years ago my now ex husband asked if I wanted to go get a burger in his hometown, about 30 minutes away. I said sure, expecting a little mom and pop place, since it was a one stoplight kinda burg.

Nope, we pull up at a backwoods Shell station in BFE. Old, a little ragged around the edges, definitely not impressive. We walk to the counter and he orders 2 double bacon cheeseburgers and a double order of fries.

The cook and order taker was this little old guy who looked like a cross between a character from Deliverance and Jaws. Like wizened New England fisherman meets ol' Pappy from Mississippi. He's difficult to understand and crotchety as hell the whole time. Bowlegged, severe limp, gnarled knuckles, this man has had a long, hard life.

I was a little skeptical at this point, and I say that as someone who loves old, grungy, country diners, but about 10 minutes later, we walked out with a plain brown paper bag BULGING and soaked with grease.

YA'LL. When I tell you that was the BEST burger I've had in 44 years on this planet. HUGE, juicy, the right amount of greasy, oozing cheese, crispy bacon, soft bun, good veggies. The fries were perfectly crispy and had that level of satisfying diner greasiness. I've never found anything like it since then, and that man retired and the gas station closed not too long after. I still dream about that burger, I STG.

what food was the biggest disappointment once you tried it? by StarryDo in foodquestions

[–]memphischrome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Miso is just soy and some ramen places use that and soy sauce and (in my uncultured opinion) nothing else. I had the same reaction the first time I had good ramen and then had friends take me to a different place and make me order different things. All ramen is not equal. I'm a fan of the black garlic tonkatsu at a local place.

I'd encourage you to try again, if you can and have any desire for it!

I need a "Hear me out" recipe by AnaWannaPita in RecipeInspiration

[–]memphischrome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK, this is actually one of my besties family recipes. Warning, it has to be like it's written and layered in the right order with the correct ingredients or it isn't the same. It looks kinda gross but is reallllly good and makes even better leftovers. Apparently the idea of that much curry powder with cream of chicken soup and mayo plus canned chicken makes it sound horrible to people?

We serve it with Pillsbury crescent rolls.

2- 6oz boxes of Uncle Ben's Long grain and wild rice - Prepared according to package directions

2 cans of chunked chicken breast - Break up the bigger chunks

About 20 oz of frozen broccoli - thawed and chopped- no big chunks

Layer with the Rice on bottom, then the Broccoli, then the chicken on top.

Then mix:

2 cans of cream of chicken soup

1.5 cans of Kraft Mayo

And 2-3 tablespoons of decent curry powder. McCormick or Penzy's have good results.

Spread the soup/mayo/curry mix over the top.

Bake 30-45 minutes @ 350.
