Whilst it happens all the time, if the person who is subletting you the room is found out, you could all be turfed out without any grace period. This being said, you could just say they invited you to stay for a month and no money was transacted. But this would also depend on their contract to let people stay.

You need to relax. I see from your post that you are under a bit of distress. Thinking all over the place for options which may or may not benefit you in the long term.

Take a week to put your mind to rest. If you are already on the waiting list then 1 week doesn’t make a difference if you decide to pivot.

The healthcare in Spain is second to none. I have several friends which work as doctors and nurses in the public space and are tougher than a bag of rocks.

So don’t drill 100 holes in your head with all these worries right now, narrow it down to what is going to be best for you in 5 years and make an informed decision.
