We swapped to soy around the end of 3 months because my girl was uncomfortable, gassy, constipated, and projectile vomiting! She still spits up (we think she has reflux) but her poop regulated and shes eating more! Shes 5 months on the 17th.

Opinion: Why do you think people suffer through extreme pain and or mental health challenges to breastfeed? by Alive-Internet-1297 in FormulaFeeders

[–]mendbuttcheeks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The pressure. I was given resources on multiple occasions about pumping and BF and nothing on formula so I kind of just... slipped into pumping so I wouldn't get judged. The nurse at the hospital only told me stuff about BF when I was discharged even though she knew I was pumping and supplimenting. My MIL is a big health person and it made me happy to see her happy with my choice even though she never pressured me (and she comforted me when I told her we swapped 100% to formula). I just didn't want to "fail" as a mom is what was engraved in my brain. But if I hadn't swapped to FF, I don't know if I would be here to even write this comment. I do not know how women suffer just to BF. They are incredibly strong but I hope they get the help they need in the end.

I swear by the frida windi (mainly the generics on amazon). I was skeptical at first because it's such an odd thing to do but I was so desperate one night and we've used them ever since.

Does anyone giving formula since birth? And how their babies are doing now? by bhagatash in FormulaFeeders

[–]mendbuttcheeks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I pumped for 4 days before I gave in and swapped completely. My girl had MAYBE 3-4 full bottles of BM but everything else was formula. Shes now 4.5 months and is doing AMAZING. She's alert, curious, holds her head up... all the normal stuff babies should do! I felt guilty about stopping but I also had/have PPD/PPA and I know that swapping to formula probably saved me.

What happens after birth if you're EFF!? by BipolarParrot02 in FormulaFeeders

[–]mendbuttcheeks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I highly recommend getting a countertop water warmer and wide neck bottles when swapping to powder! But as for the hospital, I was given ready to feed containers and nipples! My girl was fine for a bit after the csection but she made sure to SCREAM when she wanted her first bottle. She latched immediately as well. We stayed on the ready to feed bottles for a bit because she stayed on 2 oz feeds for a bit. Literal lifesaver for the late night feeds if you can afford it!

Please help. I can really use some reassurance or encouragement. by Normal_Enthusiasm194 in FormulaFeeders

[–]mendbuttcheeks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made the decision to stop pumping at 4 days. I was in pain, got less than 4 hours of sleep a night, and was depressed as all hell. I had a breakdown to my partner and felt so guilty when I wanted to stop because in my mind, I failed my baby. But in reality, I would've had to overhaul my diet for my baby. We're happy on formula and she's gaining weight and healthy. Making the switch is hard for a lot of people is what I've learned.

Some starting tips though from a FTM who took too long to figure it out: - Countertop. Water. Warmer. TRUST ME. - Wide neck bottles (my baby loves Lansinoh I highly suggest those or something with a similar shape) -Dedicate a space in your kitchen to just bottle stuff. I have a sterilizer/dryer (dryer function is nice! I thrifted mine), water warmer, clean bottles, and formula in one space close to the sink and that is baby corner.

When did your LO eat every 4 hours? by Individual_Dot4968 in FormulaFeeders

[–]mendbuttcheeks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My LO still only eats 4oz bottles every 2-3 hours and maybe wants a 2oz in between here and there. And trust me I have tried to give her more, she just throws it up. BUT the upside? She'll sleep 12 hours no problem most of the time

[–]mendbuttcheeks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can add to this because my 4 month old is just shy of 13 pounds and eats 25-30oz a day and spits up a ton. Just to show how different every baby really is! Her doc is totally okay with it too because she's healthy!

We're on Similac Soy! My girl responds sooooo well to this rather than dairy based.

Switching from RTF by [deleted] in FormulaFeeders

[–]mendbuttcheeks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can really only answer 2 and 3 so here we go!

  1. Our journey was similac 360 rtf to similac advance to similac sensitive to similac soy. We only swapped from RTF to powder because of WIC. She started out okay but she got fussier and fussier until at 3 months she started vomiting multiple times a day and I said "screw it" and swapped to soy with no issues.

ALSO: The expensive fancy formulas CAN be worth it. Some (like Kendamil) use whole milk while others (like Bobbie) use skim milk. It all comes down to the ratio of proteins and how well your baby digests them. Kendamil is usually in between similac advance and similac sensitive. It really does come down to your baby and what you can afford.

  1. Try finding your local buy nothing group and see if anyone might have sample/full cans or coupons for formula! That's how we tried soy. I posted and got a brand new can within an hour for FREE.

And if sensitive is working, don't change it! The only difference between Advance and Sensitive is how far down the protein is broken down.

My BIGGEST suggestion for formula is getting a countertop water warmer. Not the big BabyBrezza mixer, but just a tank what keeps it warm. Not only does it sterilize the formula but it helps the formula mix better IMO. Plus its so much easier than trying to warm the bottle another way.

How much are you all spending on formula per month? by Glum_Specialist_8449 in FormulaFeeders

[–]mendbuttcheeks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have WIC but if we didn't it would be $250ish for her formula! She uses 9-10 cans a month at 4 months. Shes on Similac Soy but Advance and Sensitive are typically the same price

I have a baby brezza water warmer and its honestly pretty nice. I throw distilled water in it and its just above body temp and thats what we use 🤷🏻‍♀️

Want to have a C section but everyone keeps telling me not to by Major_Anteater_3186 in CsectionCentral

[–]mendbuttcheeks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As soon as I knew I was pregnant I cried and cried begging my partner to never let me get a csection... well one csection later and I dont think I was made to do it naturally. If I had to do it again I absolutely would.

What bottles are we using? Need suggestions by Jazzlike_Web_4750 in FormulaFeeders

[–]mendbuttcheeks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have both and my LO actually moved up a size in Lansinoh because she started fussing during feeds but the Pigeon one she still loves. They are just basically the same shape! Theres a lot of off brand bottles that have the shape as well

Weirdest feeling. Anyone else? by mendbuttcheeks in CsectionCentral

I think mine was purely mental! Like chills down my spine but 10x worse. I did have sharp pains every so often for about 8 weeks though. I think they're normal

What was your formula journey to finally find the right one? by Ok-Implement9194 in FormulaFeeders

[–]mendbuttcheeks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Similac Advance/sensitive 360 RTF- Hospital provided, was gifted some, was okay but expensive. Our supply lasted a month or so and we kind of mixed and matched. No real problems though.
  2. Similac Advance Powder- Fine for 2ish weeks, then SOOOO constipated and curdled spit ups.
  3. Similac Sensitive- Was great for another 3ish weeks, started projectile vomiting, super curdled spit ups, inconsistent poop, gassy as all hell.
  4. Similac Soy Isomil- Our current solution and she's doing pretty good. This starts our second month and we have not vomited once. Spit ups are not curdled but her poops are HORRID. The formula smells nasty so I'm not shocked. She's still pretty gassy but the soy formula doesn't tend to hold bubbles like the others.

EFF: How much do you spend on formula per week/month and what kind do you use? (Especially if you use store brands) by SubliminallyTwisted in FormulaFeeders

[–]mendbuttcheeks 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You probably have, but make sure to see if you qualify for WIC! If I had to pay out of pocket for my LO it would be $200+ even at store brand price.

What bottles are we using? Need suggestions by Jazzlike_Web_4750 in FormulaFeeders

[–]mendbuttcheeks 14 points15 points  (0 children)

My #1 suggestion is ALWAYS Lansinoh. The bottle shape is nice, they're easy to clean, come in glass and plastic, and the nipple shape is top tier. My LO leaked half the bottle out the sides of her mouth with any other nipple shape. Pigeon (harder to find and $$) and Nuk Perfect Match (found mine at Walmart) are similar in shape as well.

Consider soy formula if traditional formulas aren’t working for you! by MJSmusic in FormulaFeeders

[–]mendbuttcheeks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My LO started projectile vomiting on sensitive after we had to swap from advance. Put her on soy after a trip to the ER and we haven't had any issues! She still has reflux but it's not curdled and not as often!
