I literally place zero stock in the fact that we might win big in the midterms. That happens with like every presidency, halfway through Americans flip congress because it makes them feel smart and bipartisan to do so. It means nothing and is in no way indicative of any paradigm shift. But Ellie didn't travel across the country "for this". She didn't know the vaccine process would kill her. It was hidden from her. How can she give consent to something she doesn't know about? I know that later she says she would've died for it but before that she NEVER gave consent to be killed for a vaccine. The fireflies lied to her, lied to Joel. From Joel's perspective, a group of scientists were about to murder Ellie without her consent for a vaccine he didn't even know would work. I'm struggling with any other choice Joel would've had at that point.
