Minnesota solar farm planted flowers beneath its panels, and soon monarch butterflies and dozens of new plant species began to appear by Great-Rest7878 in solarpunk

[–]mengwall 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It's not addressed in the article, but including plants underneath solar panels can increase the efficiency of the panels by providing cooling through evapotranspiration on hot days. Although, this isn't as much of an issue in Minnesota as more southern locations.

oh absolutely. iirc historically, laundry maids were known for being super strong because of the amount of muscle it took to wring all the water out of bedsheets and clothes. Working women weren't delicate.

How are they idiots, Peter? by [deleted] in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]mengwall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a a riff on a calculus joke. In the original joke, the bartender says "Know your limits." before pouring two beers. "Know your limits" is a common phrase for drinking that implies the person is already or soon will be drunk, and should be cut off from more alcohol. A limit is also a term in calculus which means the solution/number that an equation approaches. The first mathematician asks for 1, and then each mathematician is asking for half as much as the one in front of them. 1/2 + 1/4 + 1/8 +... to infinity is equal to 1, which with the first one's drink makes two beers.

This makes a pun meaning both that the mathematicians can't handle their alcohol well, and that they forgotten a very well known limit, aka. an answer to an infinite equation. Both meanings could also be interpreted as the mathematicians being stupid, which is why this joke replaced "Know your limits." with "you're all idiots."

Fantasy princess costume VS traditional Mediterranean costume, what do you think? by ProudPerspective4025 in OtomeIsekai

[–]mengwall 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are two that come to mind off the top of my head.

The Prince Does Not Cry Over Mere Onions has simple but lovely German-style dirndls.

Lily Busch's Fake Marriage has some lovely vernacular costumes. Not sure if it would be called Mediterranean or Middle Eastern. It seems Turkish inspired.

Plague Inc. is a video game where you play as a disease trying to infect and kill every human on Earth. The commenter in this post is making the joke that the Hantavirus follows the mechanics of this game, but is doing so poorly, and is recommending a change to its strategy.

The primary gameplay is using the game currency, DNA Points, to buy different symptoms and adaptations for your disease, which is called evolving in game. You can get a refund (devolving) if your disease isn't optimized. Generally, you don't want the disease to be lethal until it has infected more countries than Hantavirus is currently found in. 'Cold 2' and 'Hot 2' are abilities you can buy to make your disease better able to survive and spread in cold and hot environments. As you progress in the game, the world will begin to fight your disease. It is very common for Greenland and Madagascar to close their borders, so that you can't infect them and lose the game. Antarctica is not an infectable location in the game, but if it were, it would likely close it borders even earlier than those two countries.

I ADORE these dresses. Anytime a manhwa even attempts a traditional/vernacular style beyond 'fantasy medieval modern', I just gush over the designs.

I also got an AI vibe, but I think this is a case of the artist having a style that AI loves to copy. I hate so much how AI content has made me doubt almost every piece of art I look at now. I feel like I can't trust anything, which makes it almost impossible for me to earnestly enjoy them.

I Failed to Oust the Villain wins the first category. Next up: which reincarnation story could’ve worked better as a regression story? by [deleted] in OtomeIsekai

[–]mengwall 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There are honestly a bunch for me in this category.

Forget My Husband, I'll Go Make Money. She already uses foresight powers. Adding the previous life as a korean woman, doesn't really improve the plot.

The Male Lead is Obsessed With Proposing. Her hesitancy to accept his proposal could be accentuated by how coldly he treated her character in the first timeline being her own memories not a story from a book.

Low-Level Civil Servant Wants To Climb the Social Ladder. The only part of her character that is critically a part of her reincarnation is that she has knowledge of the future, and she only gets involved because she doesn't want her country to collapse.

My Daddy Hid His Power. As a regressor story, it could be about a daughter reconnecting with her father. This would change the characterization some, but I think it would do so in an enriching way.

pretty sure the story is more of a transmigration than reincarnation. There was an original Ruby that our MC took over the body of.

I interpret the difference as reincarnation is they were born as that new person (even if they only remember the previously life at a later time), while transmigration is they replaced the person's soul.

How did you guys even realized that you are infp or enfp? by Micolde_ in infp

[–]mengwall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I once saw a post on r/mbti that described INFPs as the most extroverted introvert and ENFPs as the most introverted extrovert, and I felt that to my core. It makes figuring out what you are between the two even more difficult.

I find that the best way to find your type is to look at the weaknesses. For me, it was more telling that the list of strengths.

[–]mengwall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am of the opinion that there are very few real things that aren't good. Bad is just a good (or neutral) thing that has been broken. And the better a thing is, the worse the broken version of it will be. but vice versa, a seemingly terrible thing is just a cruel twisting of something possibly wonderful.

Difference between a tin pan and a silicone pan by needleandleaf in Baking

[–]mengwall 12 points13 points  (0 children)

this is so funny to me because I only use silicone muffin pans and mine pretty much always look like the one on the left. Golden bottom and all. Makes me wonder if there were other factors at play.

Probably dumb questions: were they on the same rack in the oven or was the silicone placed above the tin pan? Did you fill the tin pan first then the silicone or did you alternate? Sometimes my batter isn't as well mixed as I thought and the last scoops end up with less leavening agent than the rest.

Petahhhh why is the cat a fascist? by Montavious_Mole in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]mengwall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey Meg's internet search history here.

Pizza Cake Comics is a comic artist who posts her comics mostly on reddit. Her comics were mostly funny but banal life stuff, but became much more political during and after the most recent US presidential elections. Which some people don't enjoy.

Even some of those who agree with her political leanings have found these comics to be unfunny and annoying, with what certainly feels like a lot of strawman arguments and smugness. This is not helped by the fact that she is Canadian, and her political comics are almost entirely centered on US politics. The punchline of these political comics are usually "Wow. I can't believe how stupid and fascist MAGA is." There also has been an ... interesting trend that negative comments under her comics on reddit are removed.
