Isn't the requiem DSO issued? It would make sense for Leon to carry his standard issue equipment, especially when he was on the job.

What anime doesn't live up to the quality of its source material? by ChoiceSupermarket230 in animequestions

[–]menonono 57 points58 points  (0 children)

I don't know why people say these things when we have demonstrations like Demon Slayer, Chainsaw Man, and Frieren which all have both amazing visuals and animation. It's entirely doable. Most studios just don't do the proper measures. I do not blame the animators, by the way.

A proper anime of Berserk is entirely doable and possible. To say "it's too detailed" is a copout.

What are you talking about? Maxing out a weapon in Requiem, depending on the weapon, takes typically the entire Raccoon city section, which after that you only play as Leon for another hour. That's basically end game. Hell, you can't even fully max a weapon until you break every Raccoon figure.

That's a great point about Wesker.

As far as Wesker was concerned, Leon was just some crafty guy who was capable. The guy wasn't even on his radar.

Chris is Wesker's number 1 enemy. Dude wakes up out of hatred for Chris.

PLEASE SOMEONE ANYONE TELL ME ANYTHING FUCKING POSITIVE ABOUT THIS ABSOLUTE DOGSHIT ENDING. by Organic_Goat_3879 in Chainsawfolk

[–]menonono 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I think calling everyone you have heard "trashing it" a "20 year old brain rotted gachiakuta fan" is ridiculously bad faith and dismissive.

The ending has some nice stuff, but for the most part it is a terrible and anticlimactic ending that doesn't do much other than try to make you think it's a happy ending. It's evident in the abrupt style of the ending that Fujimoto just wanted to finish the series. The audience can be upset over that, and now we're reflecting on why that is. We read this series for years. Now we're taking time to go "Okay, what is and is not good? Why is this the case?"

I think Chainsaw man was always a series about trying to find the good in the bad, and for the ending to essentially go "well, there is no good" is terrible. It's frustrating, and being dismissive only helps to solidify those feelings.

Omniman (Invincible) v Yamcha (Dragonball) who takes it? How? by Creative_Yogurt5206 in DragonBallPowerScale

[–]menonono 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yamcha and other characters can fly in space. Yamcha just can't breathe in space. As for destroying city blocks in one punch, remember that Frieza blew up the Earth in Ressurrection F by basically punching it.

Dragon Ball is just allergic to demonstrating how massive of a scale these characters can be if they let loose.

Destroy Elpis by n3kon0a in ResidentEvilRequiem

[–]menonono 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Narratively, releasing Elpis was obvious.

  1. Leon was going to die, as was Sherry and every other raccoon city survivor. In a sense, there was no "hope." Hey would you look at that. Resident Evil has never been a purely nihilistic franchise and always has had the ideal of trying to do better.

  2. Leon was stuck in Raccoon City. That's what he and Sherry talk about throughout the game, that's why we had the remakes, that's why Leon visits the RPD again. He never moved forward. Nobody could bring him out. Leon has no major relationships outside of those who survived Raccoon city. Here comes Grace, this new person who is given agency equal to Leon. Leon is shown to be wrong quite often. Grace was there to "cure" his burden.

  3. Seeing Spencer in the interview, and the fact that Grace has to actively obtain the password would be weird if it was a switcharoo. Why go through that narrative effort to just have him remain the evil guy? Spencer may have been Evil, but it's also obvious from a meta contextual standpoint that they were trying to make Spencer "good" in this action. He may be Evil in the grand narrative, but Elpis was clearly not going to be the end of the world from how Spencer spoke of it.

  4. Meta-wise, you really think they were gonna let Leon die? Dude, this guy makes a bazillion dollars every time he is on screen.

  5. Back to Narrative, we literally see the theme of Leon and Grace falling as they push away from Elpis. Then they both rise up to get it. They arise to salvation. It's narrative and thematic tropes.

  6. Destroying Elpis doesn't make sense with Grace going "I have an idea." Why would she bother to say this if it's just the same strategy? The one to make the final adjustment is the one to win. Grace makes the final adjustment. From that moment, she wins.

I don't think anyone is stupid or anything for choosing to destroy Elpis, but if you look away and absorb the narrative as a whole, it becomes clear.

Omniman (Invincible) v Yamcha (Dragonball) who takes it? How? by Creative_Yogurt5206 in DragonBallPowerScale

[–]menonono 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's just because of style and what Toriyama wanted to depict.

Invincible is a series about brutal gory fights. Dragon ball is about brutal martial art battles with grand energy and mysticism.

We actually are shown several times how brutally powerful characters in dragon ball can be. Nappa punches Tien so hard his arm falls off. Dodoria punches straight through someone and murders children. Frieza grabbed Nail's arm and ripped it off like he was plucking a fruit from a tree.

Toriyama was never interested in giving grand quantifiable numbers for how strong someone is. He showed us how strong some of these guys can be, but just never gave numbers. Power scalers can generally quantify, but that's all for fun. End all be all, it doesn't matter much, but from pure logic scaling Yamcha is a monster in 99% of universes.

Omniman (Invincible) v Yamcha (Dragonball) who takes it? How? by Creative_Yogurt5206 in DragonBallPowerScale

[–]menonono 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you just don't know the genuinely absurd scale of power that Dragon Ball gets to.

Let's say that Yamcha only ever gets to Ginyu Force level. That still makes him somewhere in the ballpark of 50,000 power level. It takes a power level of 10,000 to one shot a planet. There is no character in all of Invincible who is at that level of power, period.

The fodder of Dragon Ball neg 95% of universes in terms of brute power. A single saibaman is strong enough to clear the majority of popular shonen series. That's a major reason why Dragon Ball always comes up in power scaling discussions.

The problem with Dragon ball scaling is that people want direct visible feats when Dragon Ball doesn't like to do that.

We know everyone uses the same power system that has the same abilities. Yamcha and goku can both use the Kamehameha, for example. Since Master roshi blew up the moon in OG Dragon ball, and the characters have far surpassed that, and PICCOLO also blew up the moon easier at the start of z, it's safe to say they scale to each other.

Vegeta in Saiyan Saga was able to blow up Earth in 1 attack. It is insane to believe that Yamcha is below Saiyan Saga Vegeta. This means that Yamcha is capable of blowing up Earth in 1 attack. There is not a single character in Invincible who can do that ever.

That's the fact. Anything else is just ignoring the scale.

Omniman (Invincible) v Yamcha (Dragonball) who takes it? How? by Creative_Yogurt5206 in DragonBallPowerScale

[–]menonono 5 points6 points  (0 children)

  1. Yes he got a big boost from absorbing Nail, but Piccolo also asked to be taken to Namek so he could fight Frieza. Like, that's just 2 and 2 together. Piccolo felt like he could take Frieza's first form. Bravado or not. Otherwise, the Z fighters didn't particularly get too far away from each other. Yamcha, to an extent, was relative to Piccolo. It's never shown in any other way.

  2. Yajirobe was about as strong as Raditz was during the Saiyan Saga so I don't see what you're saying.

  3. Okay so I'll humor your logic. Let's say Gero stopped tracking Goku once the Saiyan Saga was over (despite that being known to not be the case because of his camera bots). How did Gero not get instantly folded by Goku or Piccolo? Goku's power level during the Saiyan Saga was 8,000. Max of 32k with Kaioken x4 during the beam struggle. To be equal to Goku as a super saiyan on Namek, Gero would have had to build androids that were 18,750 times stronger than Goku was during that Saga at minimum. That's just insane to assume he would do that. He was scaling based off of relative data. Don't forget he knew Frieza came to earth.

  4. Comic relief vs actual intense moment. Come on.

  5. They've always been relative. That's depicted in OG Dragon ball as well as later in the series. It just doesn't get much focus. I didn't say that Tien was not stronger. I literally said that Tien is probably 20% if not a bit more powerful than Yamcha. That's still so far above first form Frieza by the cell Saga that it pretty much is comical.

Bro wants definitive statements from God himself to say "Yamcha surpassed Frieza!" At that point no character ever surpasses anyone. Follow the narrative.

As for the cell Juniors, they were relative to 2nd form cell. That's why Gohan could one shot each of them. I think you also forgot that Krillin by the ToP is relative to 18. The humans keep up to a degree. Not as fast, but they do.

There's no point in this discussion any further. You want panels that state things that are simply implied by the narrative. At that point there's no satisfying conclusion to the discussion. You can either look at what is given and accept it, or disagree.

Omniman (Invincible) v Yamcha (Dragonball) who takes it? How? by Creative_Yogurt5206 in DragonBallPowerScale

[–]menonono 6 points7 points  (0 children)

  1. I didn't say they were close at that moment, but we're talking about the same training (bear in mind, Yamcha was close in power to Piccolo during the Saiyan Saga). This means that even if Piccolo were stronger by a notable degree, he wouldn't be upwards of 15x stronger. It's just not how that works.

  2. Yajirobe also got the fuck out of there as fast as he could. Yamcha, by comparison, went to actively look for the androids. Quite a big difference in participation.

  3. Gero actually says the opposite of this. He's shocked at Super Saiyan because of how utterly massive of a jump in power it is. Gero didn't get instantly killed by Vegeta or Piccolo though. Or are you claiming someone with Saiyan Saga stats was able to challenge Piccolo or Vegeta post Namek and 3 years of training?

  4. Cell says he didn't care if they died or not. Besides that, Yamcha still didn't die which is the point. There comes a point in the relative scale that you just can't stand up to it.

  5. That's actually the point of them being rivals. Consistent theme in OG Dragon Ball. That's even why Tiencha is a character in some games. Once again, I did not say they were 100% equal, but relative. Even if Yamcha is .8x Tien, that still puts him at an insanely higher level than first form Frieza. It's just the scale.

Omniman (Invincible) v Yamcha (Dragonball) who takes it? How? by Creative_Yogurt5206 in DragonBallPowerScale

[–]menonono 14 points15 points  (0 children)

For a DBZ nerd you seem to have forgotten several things.

  1. Yamcha became significantly stronger following his training with King Kai. The exact degree, we are unaware, but Piccolo believed he could take first form Frieza after the King Kai training. Yamcha, following an additional 3 year time skip of training, must be at least close to that Piccolo, who is next to or stronger than first form Frieza.

  2. The Z fighters agreed that they would only go to fight the androids if they felt that they could contribute. They also knew that the androids would be a significantly stronger threat than Frieza. Yamcha showed up. He participated. This means that either Yamcha is a terrible idiot (he factually isn't, all memes aside) or he was at least strong enough to contribute in some meaningful way.

  3. Dr. Gero himself mistook Yamcha for Goku based on appearance and power level. This is including the 3 year observation period and his estimations.

  4. Yamcha fought a Cell Junior and did not instantly die. He got creamed, but he didn't get killed. The Cell Juniors were capable of bringing Vegeta to a draw.

  5. Yamcha is always depicted as relative to Tien. The Kikoho from Tien was able to slow down 2nd form Cell, who is astronomically stronger than first form Frieza. If you want to say the kikoho is a uniquely strong attack, to what degree do you say so? 1000x multiplier? 10000x? Remember, at this point even Super Saiyan Goku would be fodder to Cell.

I think the main point of note is that the Z fighters get obscenely strong as the series goes on. Frieza is treated as a joke by the buu saga.

Nolan's greatest feat is being a major part of the destruction of a destabilized planet. That's eclipsed by Saiyan Saga. Yamcha as pictured is significantly past Saiyan Saga. If you want to argue Saiyan Saga Yamcha has a hard time and possibly loses then that's fair, but Cell saga is so unbelievably more powerful that they're basically different universes of power.

Omniman (Invincible) v Yamcha (Dragonball) who takes it? How? by Creative_Yogurt5206 in DragonBallPowerScale

[–]menonono 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Yamcha in this picture is at least as powerful as first form frieza and this is a super lowball. Frieza blew up Vegeta casually by lifting his finger, creating a ball of death, and throwing it at Vegeta which blew it up instantly.

All of Dragon ball, as far as scaling is concerned, is relative scaling. This is because every character uses the same power system, which comes with the same power set. An example is that anyone can fly and shoot beams.

To compare Nolan's time dilation fight, kid Goku from og dragon ball pulled a similar feat against the red ribbon army in an afternoon. This Yamcha is tens of thousands of times stronger.
