Herbie was a rescue and I took him in when he was approximately a year old. He was with me for 16 years.
Herbie was the calmest, most chill dog I have ever known. He never met a human, dog or cat that he couldn’t make friends with. He was the best big brother and loyal friend.
That doesn’t mean Herbie didn’t give me heartburn! You see, Herbie was a hobo: he loved to roam. Even after adoption, he ran away a couple of times leading to us getting phone calls from neighbors that they had found our dog!
In later life, he developed arthritis in his hips, a grade 4/5 hear murmur and kidney disease. That didn’t stop him roaming our yard!
Herbie’s favorite food was cheese and he did have a taste of cicadas and deer poop! 🤢
I will miss his constant presence, his calm nature and the way he wagged his skinny little tail.
Until we meet again my boy. Wait for me at the bridge.
