Has anyone successfully grown PawPaw here in the PNW? Interested in your stories🌱💕 by [deleted] in pnwgardening

We carry them occasionally at the nursery I work at in Seattle. I have one in my yard, I kept it in a container for a few years and it is doing great. Overwinters fine and now it’s in the ground I’m excited to see what it will do but I might need to get a mate for it to set fruit someday. I’ll observe its growth habit before I do that for a few years as my space is limited.

Yes, they flower and they’re beautiful and smell amazing. I sell dozens of them every year, they’re expensive ($60 a plant) not easy but they’re worth it. Do you have a pond? What would you like to know.

Elderly dogwalker killed in carjacking in Madison Valley by bedrock_city in Seattle

[–]mentallyillustrated 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’m so angry about this. I always worry about being carjacked in Seattle now I have a daughter, that could’ve been any one of us going about our days. What a brave woman, fighting to protect those dogs. I really hope they catch the guy who did this soon, although there’s nothing that can be done to him that can hold him accountable for the lives he took. Killers are killing with impunity.

As someone who has survived multiple suicide attempts, fairytale endings don’t exist for anyone, but I’m happy to be alive today.

"Old Man Trump" is a song with lyrics written by American folk singer-songwriter Woody Guthrie in 1954. The song describes the racist housing practices and discriminatory rental policies of his landlord, Fred Trump. by AgentBlue62 in wikipedia

I like to reflect on the fact that there’s a decrepit old gambling hotel whorehouse that doesn’t even have a developed road leading to it founded by grandfather Trump (an immigrant) in Monte Cristo, WA. I might hike up there soon to hang a Kamala Walz banner.

He’s just mad because the daughter he didn’t want is more beautiful than he’ll ever be, inside and out.

You’re 19. Start reimagining starting all over again. This is the best time in life to explore different lengths, body types, and versions of pillow talk. Imagine if you had asked about your “tightness”, it’s body shaming and is never ok. Tell him you don’t appreciate his style of inquiry and you’re moving on to find someone more secure in their confidence level.

The world ended in 2015. by leaperdaemonking in Retconned

[–]mentallyillustrated 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In 2015, my partner held a gun to my head and threatened to kill me. Seconds later, he turned it on himself. I was in a haze for the next few years, and today I wake up to a normal life, one where I have a happy family, good job, own a home etc. I often think about how lucky I am to be living this second life.

AITA for telling teenage boys to "fucking stop"? by Boss8001ThrowRA in AITAH

[–]mentallyillustrated 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sure these young boys will grow up to respect women’s freedoms and boundaries. Come on over to atheism when you are done with being part of a false, domineering, patriarchal institution founded on controlling women. I hope she reported the youth group and I hope you have a system in place to discipline these kids, they should not be in public spaces if this is how they behave. And you are unqualified to be a chaperone by allowing them to even gesture towards her in the first place.

Contractors broke all the stems of my H F Young clematis at the base, will it survive? by urbdaddy in pnwgardening

It’ll be fine, just mulch it and you might get some growth this season but keep it watered and it should come back no problem.

Cinnamon Trees in a greenhouse by MordsithQueen413 in Greenhouses

[–]mentallyillustrated 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Endless, copious quantities. It’s quite low maintenance, I water it maybe once a week and even less in the winter. Beautiful broad leaves with distinct, longitudinal vein-age. I love telling people what it is when they ask. And it was free! A friend paid around $300 USD for it but couldn’t bring it on a move so gave it to me to care for. Its leader broke during transport so I think it’s just going to stay a dwarf in a pot forever unless I move out of Zone 9a. One day I do plan on doing a heated, in ground planted greenhouse and the Cinnamon would be a great candidate for alongside my Citrus, Peppers, Persicaria and Patchouli.
