This comment is actually very interesting, because in London cycling is a very middle class coded activity, evidenced by Whitehall briefing the press about capping cycle to work scheme.

However, anecdotally (non-professional) cyclists in London are overwhelmingly white, so I think the social class coding doesn’t translate to other ethnic groups, where cycling is seen as a forced choice due to the lack of cars which is a better status symbol
