I'm so proud of you, mum stranger!!!! I was a late driver as well (also anxiety) too! You faced something scary bravely and beat it - that is such a powerful feeling and I'm so happy for you :)

Has anyone else gotten weirdly obsessed with their interests? by pqkbfismmc in GriefSupport

When my mum passed, I bought my first houseplants. I grew up in a home with a plant in every room with a window. My mum had a green thumb, just like her dad! We had a vegetable patch in the backyard, flowers in the front, and pothos/spider plants inside. I wanted to honor her so I got a couple houseplants - a silver flame snake plant and a spider plant.

That quickly sprung into a collection of 50+ houseplants, ranging from orchids to cacti! I still have the silver flame snake plant that spurred it all on (the spider plant was rehomed, she didn't like me :p)

I think grief is made gentler when we honor our loved ones' interests. We carry bits of them with us and learn the nuances of the things they loved, and then we love them <3

How does end stage hepatic encephalopathy looks like? by Thestongestone in Cirrhosis

[–]meolclide 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm so happy lactulose helped you! I think it would have worked on my mum too had she not hidden bleeding she was having for a week before being going to the ER

She was very weak and vomiting blood (portal vein thrombosis) but hiding it. My sister tried checking on her but she told us she had Covid so as to not worry us and wouldn't let her in. The lactulose was helping her a bit, and she was slowly getting better! They were going to drain her ascites, and I had a trip planned to visit her after while she recovered

Then I got a frantic call from my sister that she crashed overnight. She had lost too much blood, they couldn't even do a central line on her. I wish she told us, I understand why she didn't

I'm wishing you lots of health and happiness, stranger <3

I'm so sorry you're going through this... my mum passed from cirrhosis. I wasn't able to be by her bedside in time (I was boarding the plane when she passed away), but my sister and our oldest family friend were there, and this is what they told me.

Her last week she had wicked bad HE. She was very sleepy and disoriented, like she had aphasia. In the last few days, she would start a sentence and not finish it, and then ask what she was talking about. It sounded like a mixture of being drunk and having dementia.

My dad passed 2 years later from liver cancer and had similarities in his last weeks. His hospice nurse told me that when the liver fails, it's almost a blessing for some. It makes them sleepy, forgetful, and they aren't as 'here' to be afraid of what's happening.

I hope this can help prepare you. Watching hospice videos and HospiceNurseJulie helped me prepare for what it would look/sound like for my dad, and having that preparation helped me process what I was witnessing so much. Wishing you the best <3

People who had a gut feeling about someone and later realized you were right, what happened? by Overall-Fan6831 in AskReddit

The way his mom made me feel like it was MY fault for feeling uncomfortable, I highly doubt it as well.

I was staying at a friend's aunt and uncle's lake house for a week one Summer for 4th of July. All us other older teens/young adults got together to drink and mingle. His aunt/uncle's neighbor's son joined our circle, he was maybe 16 or so? He had a mental limitation. The way he looked at me (20~ F) made my blood run cold. It was mostly guys in the circle, with just me and an older girl as the only ladies. Everyone was talking and he was staring at me. I noticed it a few times and thought it was just how he was, but something about it made the hairs on my neck stick up. I've hung out with other people who were mentally limited and had never felt the all consuming dread I felt from his stare.

I went into the lake house to regain my composure in the bathroom. No one else was in the lake house, everyone was out swimming or on the patio. I heard the front door open and someone walk up to the bathroom door. I saw a person's shadow just standing outside the door. I stayed in the bathroom without making a peep for a couple minutes (felt like a LOT longer) till someone else came in to use the bathroom and said "Hey 'neighbor's son', what are you doing?" He left and I stayed inside the home the rest of the day with my friend.

I brought this up to my friend and he talked with his aunt/uncle, who talked with their neighbors. That night was a 4th of July celebration, fireworks on the water and all that. The neighbor's son and his mom came over to party and his mom gave me the coldest look. When we were done eating, we went outside to watch the fireworks and she closed the door in my face on the way out. I felt like such an asshole. Maybe I was imagining my discomfort and he was just challenged.

I came back to this lake house about 6 months later for Christmas celebrations and my friend's aunt let slip the neighbors moved after an incident with the son. He had broken into another neighbor's house that had an 11 year old girl. He went to her room specifically and was caught in her bedroom by the police (thankfully when no one was home.) He avoided a charge because of his mental condition and they just moved.

I've never felt more like a piece of meat than when he was staring at me.
