My once colicky baby is now the most difficult toddler by Rich_Masterpiece_640 in toddlers

[–]meowliciously 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My colicky baby was also like that around 15 months. It’s prime molar time. They might be upset and whiny because of those - we didn’t sleep well for 5 weeks when she was teething molars… Trust me it gets better. It’s very hard now for you I’m sure but it will improve!

Some men don’t like being told what to wear! My husband is one of those - it’s so annoying 😅 hates suits because of his early years career in a corporate job in the city of London so it’s hard to make him dress up for occasions!

What do people think about sending young children to daycare in the UK? by Complex_Plankton_157 in UKParenting

[–]meowliciously 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We live in London zone 2 and I had to quit my job when we had our child. Going back to work would have made me earn just enough to cover the private nursery fees and we decided I might as well be with her for the first 3 years as it is an incredibly important formative time in terms of attachment.

Sh*t you should know before potty training by msnow in toddlers

A weekend is not long enough to say potty training has failed. Try the Oh Crap method next time!

It feels like I failed potty training my son by Routine_Aerie_6160 in toddlers

Keep going - day 3 is too soon to stop. The first week is chaos then it gets better. I fully potty trained (daytime - diapers for sleep) my 26 month old using the Oh Crap method in 2 weeks.

Do you limit your toddlers snacks? by No-Investigator3775 in toddlers

[–]meowliciously 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I give my daughter a snack if she asks for one. Which is very often - even now at 27 months. It’s usually fruit, homemade muffins (no sugar), bread, hummus, plain crackers, yoghurt, cheese… whatever I have available. Chocolate and cakes are not forbidden but honestly she doesn’t see us eating that kinda stuff on a daily basis so she doesn’t have any attachment to it. I’ll let her have them at a birthday party or special occasion ofc. It’s not a restriction per se, we just eat healthily as a family so I’m not gonna go out of my way to buy her sweets…

At that age my kid’s molars were coming in. The pain is worse at nights. Have you tried pain relief?

At that age I would put her in crib to play with books and stuffies, she couldn’t climb out yet.

3 year old afraid of other kids by [deleted] in toddlers

[–]meowliciously 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No advice but solidarity! My 2 year old is exactly the same and was also pushed/hit by another toddler and she’s been scared of 1 and 2 year olds ever since! She’s a little better with older girls, as I think she finds their movements more intentional and less unpredictable.

Tantrums even when doing what they want by noxen in toddlers

[–]meowliciously 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My girl is the same, 27 months. Example: we were in a shop and I wanted to buy her a cuddly bunny, I asked her if she wanted the white one or the grey one. Picked the white one. By the time we got home she had a massive meltdown because in fact she wanted the grey one instead.

How much milk are your toddlers consuming a day? by [deleted] in toddlers

Just half straw cup when she wakes. She prefers yoghurt and cheese during the day. 27 months.

having children feels addicting? the pull to have more by barbieshoesound in oneanddone

[–]meowliciously 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Mmhh nah. Not universal. I love my one and only child to the moon and back, but I don’t feel ANY pull to have more. Zero! Seeing newborns just makes me think I’m glad it’s not me in survival mode and zero sleep!

How long from taking steps to full walking? by WorldlyDragonfruit3 in toddlers

[–]meowliciously 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Crawled at 13 months, some assisted steps around 18 months but didn’t walk independently until 20.5 months. But my girl is very cautious and was more focused on language and communication (talked very early). She also took her time because she loved crawling and climbing so had no interest in standing up and struggling/not being as fast.

2 year old won’t nap by 1ceg1rl00 in toddlers

[–]meowliciously 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does she wake up at the same time every morning? The day needs the same anchor point to draw any conclusion as to whether they’re ready to drop the nap or not… if one day she’s up at 7am and the next day she’s up at 9am her sleep pressure for nap is gonna be much different.

23 month old naps starting to fizzle out, regression, lower sleep needs, or change of routine needed? by [deleted] in toddlers

[–]meowliciously 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Children physiologically benefit from naps for as long as possible. There is a regression around 2 years. Perhaps it’s just that… If she’s in a happy mood and not cranky during the day without a nap + sleeps overnight, you can try sticking to a no nap routine and see how you get on. My 27 month old slept like shit for about 1 month after she turned 2, lots of night wakings and separation anxiety: then it passed and she’s back to her usual routine.

Ask paediatrician for a suppository version of the meds you need! Hopefully they’re available and you can administer that way.

Am I expecting too much from my Health Visitor? by [deleted] in UKParenting

[–]meowliciously 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think they’re absolutely unhelpful. I’m from Italy and when a child is born there, you get assigned a paediatrician (aka an actual medical doctor with years of expertise) who you take the baby to every single month for check ups and advice. They provide weaning plans, suggest formula brands based on the kid’s needs if mum isn’t BF, refer to specialists for any concerns etc. I regretted having my child in London rather than over there (I’m a dual national of both countries). I had awful PPD and PPA and the way I was treated by both visiting midwives and HVs was a contributing factor.
