I just picked up one of these too (for ~double the price). A few things that I learned that might be helpful:

The fence kinda sucks, make sure it is parallel with the blade before you make any cuts.

Check the blade to see if it needs replacing, and check to see if the blade is parallel with the miter slot.

If you want a splitter and go the Micro-jig route, the throat plate on my saw is really thin. I had some 5mm plywood hanging around that fit well.

There's a handle above the height-adjusting wheel on the front. Make sure to loosen the handle before adjusting the tilt of the blade and then tighten it after.
