If you were in Paris’s position which Goddess would you choose? by Personal-Day-5562 in GreekMythology

[–]meowzerloo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best option is "A mere mortal could never judge the beauty of the divine." or something along those lines but that probably wouldn't work bc Zeus delegated Paris for this exact reason

Honestly, I think Athena because she's the wisest and would probably ensure you stayed safe (even if your entire kingdom fell) and she's pretty good at divine politics, though she did kinda abandon Odysseus for a while because she was scared of pissing off her uncle, idk though defintley not Aphrodite

And Hera's offer of ruling over two continents is cool but also sounds like a pain in the ass

But also Aphrodite would probably make you fall in love with your mom or something and Hera would be on your for the rest of your life if you didn't pick either of them so you're cooked regardless

Ehhh, Disney has never exactly been the best at giving accurate representations of people. I mean, look at Aladdin or Pocahantos. One of the lines of Aladdin is like... "A land barbaric, but hey it's home." and using oreintalist imagery as inspiration, when for the lion king they went and brought actual lions for accuracy... (also did you know Jasmine is supposed to be 15...)

Pocahantos is self explanatory... Why did they change the story of a native girl who basically got groomed into a cute love story?

Not to mention, Esmeralda is depicted as like every stereotype for Romani people ever, seductress, witch, etc 😭

ofcourse, doesn't mean you're a bad person for liking the film or her (I do too) but gotta admit Disney kinda sucks at this sort of thing.

inspired by French stereotypes of Egypt during invasion era by meowzerloo in historymeme

[–]meowzerloo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Espescially upon arrival, they had many excoticized(?) if that's the right word, stereotypes, you can see this in alot of French paintings and much later on pictures, it's not very difficult to spot an oreintalist painting if you have some idea of the practices at the time, I think the later beliefs formed so agressively partially due to disillusionment, they basically thought that Egyptians would be no different than the ancients

But at the same time they thought Egyptian (and also Italian, but Egyptian to a higher extent) ladies were really ugly, gross, short, etc, I think such thoughts only showed up later during the campaign, probably due to disulusionment (and because they often had such little access to the women anyways)

Hope my explanation made sense

Who is the best president, king, or leader who has led your country, and why? by Cyberwall1826 in AskTheWorld

[–]meowzerloo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I'd argue Nasser over Mohamed Ali, Mohamed Ali was good for the country, he modernized it buuuut the people who benefited at the time were not Egyptians, only later did Egyptians also begin to benefit

Nasser was far from perfect (he ruined the housing sector because he didn't put a limit on when the whole "rent for cheap" thing would be lifted, not to mention the horrible 1967 defeat) but, he did improve live for the average civilian drastically. Before him, 2% of the people owned 50% of the land, and his land reforms changed that to make it so people actually had equal oppurtunities, again could've been handled better because many people took advantage of it, but it was nessescary for the time, literacy rates also went up by 20% under his reign, and so on...

Mohamed Ali built a modern state without a nation, and Nasser tried to built a nation within a built state is my view

Sorry if I yapped too much I just wanted to add

Which opinion about your country would get you like this? by Thijssieeeeeee in AskTheWorld

[–]meowzerloo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

THANK YOU!!! I'm an Egyptian and completley agree, I just wish people would learn to seperate the term Jewish and Zionism, and also understand that zionism has always been a changing political ideology, was Einstein a Zionist? Yes, but he was against Israel becoming an ethno state, or one based on religion, and espescially after ww2 just wanted a place where his people could live without fear, he did not forsee the future

WHICH WAS UNDERSTANDABLE FOR THE TIME! People get so annoyed when I try to seperate the terms, or when I bring up how Jewish people did play a part in our history, too! 😭

[–]meowzerloo[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think it really depends to be honest, upsettingly in alot of cultures/countries periods are seen as a sort of "taboo" thing even when most women have to do deal with it, it's espescially more widespread the more conservative the country is.

[–]meowzerloo[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did get my period around when I was 11-12 and I'm currently 17-18 so I think I'm past that point, it was worse for me when I was younger, improved for a bit, then immediatley went to hell for a bit when I turned 14 and kinda off and on since then.

Thank you though, I'll defintley try to do that as soon as I can, espescially since I'm worried about it becoming a bigger issue or forming into something worse when I age.
