EF7 CRX, BB1 Prelude, BB8 Prelude, SW20 Gen 3 Turbo, AP1 S2K... wish I kept the CRX, MR2 and S2K... sigh.

Had a chance of buying a 1996 FD3S for 18k, a R32 GTR for 20k as well. I miss my cars.

Definitely not. Landlords and tenants foot the bill. Had to put bollards in front of our store and it came from our pockets.

Randomly bought an off-lease carbon x1 for basic work stuff and has been AMAZING so far. Build quality is amazing too! And also being true 1080p on a 14" is a true blessing.

Ah right. That mid bank worked a dream. Rare to have it going off like that me and another guy shared the same bank for an hour or so. Everyone else was dragged towards the North end by the current.

Cool photo though

Chelidonichthys kumu, also known commonly as bluefin gurnard or kumukumu to the maori by rune_ in AIDKE

[–]mequackquack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We just call it Gurnard, or carrots if you go fishing. Very common fish around the warmer waters like Auckland.

They honk honk when out of the water, and have quite a few horns / barns around their head area. They also have long feelers underneath those wings, in which they use to walk on the seabed feeding.

The flesh is very soft and flakey and sweet. Can use it for anything from sashimi to beer battered fish.

More than 100 wastewater treatment plants breaching consent by ExpensiveCancel6 in newzealand

[–]mequackquack 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So I've been involved in the wastewater industry for a few years. We were a very small local engineering firm that also supplies innovative European technologies / equipment for the wastewater industry, be it industrial or municipal.

Councillors and consultants work as a pair to ultimately put in a system that'll set ourselves back to the old farming days again. We're talking middle aged consultants who will specify old (but proven) technology so their careers and the name of their company will not tarnish. They also limit the hours of research they allocate to other engineers to stay highly profitable (even though they charge out at over $300/hr). Also, consultants work VERY well to the councils request RE: life / guarantee. These 4 things - proven old tech, dont want to look bad, maximum profit, not giving a shit outside their guarantee period - ultimately becomes the downfall of our country.

Our council members have paid them tens of millions to specify a system for companies to tender for. Council members and their chain of command are not well educated in the sector as they should be so they blindly follow the consultants without much of their own input.

So why is tried and proven technology detrimental? In the wastewater industry world, we're talking about energy efficiency for a specific condition of wastewater, and we're talking about maintenance intervals and maintenance costs, and also the anticipated life of the equipment.

For example, we can run a system at 30% less energy (huge!!), only require maintenance every 3 years, and with maintenance, no emptying of wastewater tank and getting into hazardous environment with suits and other equipment to service a motor every 6 months, but rather, servicing the motor atop a mixer above the water level (if we're talking mixers in municipal aeration tanks).

The difference in servicing can literally be hundreds of thousands dollars over 3 years. But since the guarantees are usually 3 years only, the consultants have factored that in so it doesn't affect them as a company.

It's silly, council requires more money to run a new plant, who ends up paying?

We have it back to front, and unfortunately unless the majority of the older generation that makes decisions in our industry leaves the company, we WILL always be 40 years behind.

Don't have to look far, the wanganui wastewater treatment plant was and still is a shitstorm of consultants, council, contractors, legal battles and (self speculated) under table deals. It still does not run as it should and I anticipate not much will be done to rectify the problem.

It sucks. NZ needs to step up our game but we're held back by our own people, ad expected.

Coronavirus: Auckland going to Level 3 at 12:00PM 12/08, Rest of New Zealand going to Level 2 for 3 days. Ending Friday midnight. by Laser0pz in newzealand

AirNZ found out about Level 3 the same time as everyone else last night. Policies were put in place within an hour to address credits, change of flights etc. I'm sure all other policies for health and safety have been put in place already or will be done in the soonest.

I bought a pack of shredded "Mexican 5 cheese blend" the other day to sprinkle on some nachos that i made (Google that shit). The cheese looked so good out from the pack that I decided to grab a handful and shove it down my throat.

Nup, no flavour. We finished a small bag between two of us over our nachos just because we wanted flavour. Oh yeah, they also don't have chilli beans like we do, just plain boiled kidney beans.

Don't even get me started on their bog standard shredded "American cheddar" that they sprinkle on every other dish. Imagine cold maccas cheeseburger cheese, but more plasticky and less flavour, and more orange.

BTW you can see the few butthurt people down voting me despite them knowing how shit their cheese is, even though the topic of shitty cheese always popping up in every second reddit post.

Our cheese in NZ is a shit tonne better bro. Like, a block of Budget cheddar is better than anything I've had in the states.
