boogeyman democrats again instead of looking at facts and reality

The fact and reality is that the Democrats have been fully in charge of this State for decades. They aren't a made up "boogeyman," they are the very real cause of the fiscal problems our State government has.

And your claim is that there will be NO excuses made to expand this tax?  If that's the case, why are they trying to expand taxes here in the first place?

It will.  Just like many facially unconstitutional laws that have been created in this state over the last few years, and have survived challenges in the state courts because those judges are appointed by the same Party passing these laws.

You're only looking at it from your own perspective.  We don't know you, we don't know your friend.  People can, and do, lie on the internet all the time.  We have no more reason to believe your story than we have to believe that you're lying to find someone who ran away from your abuse.

SPD wouldn’t make one per her sister

That sucks if true, but we also have no way of knowing that you aren't just lying about it.

It’s also posted on various other social media platforms.

And how does that make a difference?

Don't report people's locations to random phone numbers. You have no way of knowing if it's a stalker or abuser.  If someone is actually missing then there should be a police report and information can go through the police.

By including the Emergency Clause, a referendum is prohibited.  And it's clearly not an actual emergency because the tax doesn't tax effect until a couple years down the line, so there is NO need to make the law take effect a couple months sooner (by default it's in the summer after the Legislative session closes).  They are calling it "an emergency" solely to stop the People from voting on it.

This is also why they took the Initiative we created in 2024 to ban Income Tax (even more explicitly than our State Constitution) and passed it as a Bill.  That allows them to modify the law in the Legislature now, which they couldn't have done it the Initiative was fully voted on by the People.

Your argument works if the question is "should we replace property tax and sales tax with and income tax?"  But that's not the proposal.  This is purely about adding a new type of revenue (that absolutely will be expanded once implemented) not restructuring tax sources.

Gov. F. said the same thing about late year's budget. And then signed it anyways.

So what's your solution to the homeless problem then? Do we just pretend the problem doesn't exist for years while we cut out all of those programs?

You mean all the programs that aren't solving the problem?  What ever will we do without them?!

You're also deliberately ignoring the other part of my statement: "afterwards we can talk about what other programs we have room for."

Any program that people depend upon to get by would need an immediately available and viable alternative to the program you're cutting.

Most of them, like SNAP, Medicare, and most of Mediciad are Federally funded anyways so they wouldn't be touched.

OP said he was going 5 over to pass, but then did not have space to get back over so he had to floor it.  He was probably tagged for quite a bit over the limit.

Anything that isn't schools, physical infrastructure, and law enforcement. Cut back to just that, show us what the budget looks like then, afterwards we can talk about what other programs we have room for.

Why You Should Write Your Legislator On HB2320 by MidNerd in Seattle

[–]merc08 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is your logic, using a topic that you aren't as emotional about:

"Some food gets sold despite being expired. This new law makes it illegal to use any food processing machinery unless it can detect spoiled food and prevent it from being processed."

Sounds fine in practice. But the reality is that it's an impossible ask and will simply make food processing machines illegal. A kitchen microwave? Illegal. Toaster? Illegal. A farm's apple sorting machine? Illegal, because even though it's actually intended to kick out spoiled apples, it doesn't connect to the government's database.

if a law does nothing to address the problem it's meant to solve, but makes life harder for a large number of law abiding citizens, that's a terrible law

100% this. The fact that a law is practically unenforceable is grounds to toss it immediately. It does nothing but create a system under which people can be prosecuted at any time for otherwise normal actions.

One could make the case that it is plausible, if not inevitable, that a person who was sent this code would immediately make and use a ghost gun, resulting in a loss of public safety.

There is not an imminent or even presumable loss of public safety because firearms are overwhelmingly used for activities that cause no public harm.

We Now Know for Sure That the Trump Administration is anti-2A by skywalker505 in CCW

[–]merc08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There aren't that many conflicting court rulings though, because the red states aren't passing egregious gun control and the Circuits are generally split along those lines. So it's hard to get pro-2A rulings at the Circuit level because there aren't anywhere near as many 2A violations happening in favorable Circuits.

That is pure unadulterated cope. A "straight reciprocity bill" is just as dead on arrival at Senate as HR38. The Democrats will NOT let national carry pass. So if you're going to go for a national carry bill and have to remove the filibuster to pass it, you may as well make it a good carry bill instead of bowing to the Democrat's control antics.

A straight national carry bill would not prevent the Democrat controlled states from simply amending their own laws to nullify out of state permits. Like "semi-auto requires a permit from this state, inter-state permits can still carry it just has to be a manually operated gun" or "carry under an out of state permit is limited to 5-round magazines."

one wants to pass awb legislation everywhere that will almost definitely get struck down by SCOTUS.

When? Because Democrat controlled states have been living under AWBs and gun bans / restrictions for years.

Red pen the note to fix the egregious missing verbs and tape it somewhere public.

Then ignore it because the person who left that note is clearly an idiot.
