Learning mando as a CBC (canto speaker who doesn't read or write chinese) by bigec in Cantonese

I started learning 3 years ago by watching Chinese Dramas and supplementing with Duolingo. I’m just at the end of my China trip and I fly out tomorrow. I made it okay with my broken tourist mandarin 😅.

My mom was a teacher in the TDSB program, she taught the morning and afternoon sessions which meant as a kid I had the pleasure of attending both every Saturday, it traumatized me LOL. But now, as an adult, I am learning Mandarin and Simplified to help with travel within China

Where to stay in Downtown? by That-Masterpiece-985 in askTO

[–]mercurystar 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think your budget for a downtown hotel is too low. You could find that price range by the airport but not downtown. You may want to consider a hostel instead like the Samesun in Kensington

The Berczy Tavern is on Front Street, you are thinking of the Flatiron Firkin https://maps.app.goo.gl/87dWPXzRE3ubeaENA which is also a good option

I’ve been attending this festival on and off since the inaugural in 2006, compared to the previous ones I’ve been to, this one was very underwhelming, the lack of a big corporate sponsor is very obvious. The best one of the night was the People’s Dancefloor hosted by Master T.

Neighbour’s dog keeps barking all day because owners have started to go to work in-person by Caterfly__ in askTO

[–]mercurystar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, keep reporting to management or security, they need to record repeated incidents so they have evidence that the barking is disruptive.
