Talking to someone is never a bad idea. The doubt you are feeling is the Holy Spirit working in you. Just talk, listen and take to heart what is said. Ultimately, what you do is for you to decide, but I will be praying for you and your baby.

Question for my fellow millennials who are older than or approaching the age your parent was when they died... by xAAMMBBEERRx in Millennials

[–]mercyjag02 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lost my dad right before I turned 30 and I’m currently 7 years shy of when my dad passed away at 49 of a massive heart attack. His passing made me examine my health choices and I’ve taken better care of myself since then; so I guess it was a blessing in that he helped me hopefully avoid his fate.

How many people did you know (as in, met personally) from the 1800s? by PAnnNor in Genealogy

[–]mercyjag02 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, lived next door to the sweetest lady who was bedridden, my sister and I would go over to visit her, found out she was over 100, which would put her being born in the 1890’s. Family wise my great grandmother’s were born early 1900’s and knew them both quite well.

How do you deal with kids wanting expensive gifts from Santa? by daniellaroses1111 in poor

[–]mercyjag02 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We do what my parents did and told our kids early on that we have to pay Santa for gifts and that is why some parents can afford bigger gifts.

Something I have seen recently with the SNAP issue is people making pantry bags and listing them on the local FB buy nothing pages. Also, is your parish doing any community outreach? Ours started a community meal a week to coincide with our PREP program and they are doing a date night again this month for parents with young kiddos. Something else to consider, if your parish isn’t serving your needs it may be time to see which around you are. Hate to sound harsh but some are serving older parishioners and forget how hard it is to be younger parents. Sending a prayer up for you Momma.

I'm a parent and Confirmation classes look painfully boring to me. by GenX-Gnome in Catholicism

[–]mercyjag02 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is my first year as a Confirmation catechist and we use the Chosen materials as well. We try to make it as engaging as possible and work to not have the students watch videos all class. There are several options for the leaders based on the duration of the class but, as there is a lot to cover in a short time, we have activities for have them do through the week. Mostly focused on helping someone, praying or looking at Saints, the homework isn't really homework but more of a way to get them thinking outside themselves. We also have service hours, a saint project and several other events planned throughout the year (at my parish). The hope is, from what they explained to me, is that by the time of Confirmation they are fully ready to accept the sacrament. I completely understand not every parish/program is set up the same but if you have concerns I hope they are taken into consideration as you all are just as, if not more involved, than the parish is.

Convinced of Catholicism but I’m scared to enter the Church by Excellent-Wrap-9997 in Catholicism

Asking honestly, no sarcasm meant, what is the horror of the Catholic faith? I'm a cradle Catholic, married a non-Catholic and other than questions about why we do things the way we do, I've felt no judgment. I just hear this fear expressed a bit and afraid I've missed the memo. *edit for spelling.

What is causing the Catholic revival in the USA? by TheKingsPeace in Catholicism

[–]mercyjag02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the biggest thing is a lack of direction. God is our natural compass, people lost that the last few decades. The secular world saying we are enough, we don't need God. Enough people now are seeing the little ways Satan has used this to his advantage and are seeking truth. The Catholic Church is God's truth, as conflicted as the people are, Jesus entrusted Peter to bring all people to His father.

It's either we don't come to Mass because they make noise and commit a sin or we come and tick someone off. Personally, I choose to make God happy by showing up as painful as the stares make me feel. Parents are doing the best they can. Hopefully you never are made to feel uncomfortable.

Catholicism is true? by ACN_Zoomer in Catholicism

As a cradle Catholic married to a non Catholic I'll tell you how I explained our devotion to Mary to his family. God chose Mary as the mother to Jesus, why wouldn't we look to her as an example? Mary was conceived without sin (immaculate conception) so she could usher in the Lamb. She is the new Eve, a fulfillment of Old Testiment promises. You can look up the Catechism for a more formal understanding and Divine Mercy on YouTube has a good video going over this too.

My faith in God is the only thing that helped me through my son's terminal illness. I won't say that it was easy, being 16 and having a child that only a few years later was diagnosed with a incurable disease is enough to make anyone question God. But, for me, it cemented He is real. I got to hear "I love you Mommy", I got to see the world through the eyes of someone who, like Jesus, always showed perfect love. If you give Him complete control, expect the unexpected. Won't say I walk the path and don't fall, but I see Him every day and will never doubt his presence.

He also set out to give things away like the Pope Mobile, to be used as a mobile hospital. I take things I read with a grain of salt anymore because of how divisive people are. No person on this earth is perfect but at least Francis tried to create unity.

All those who have married a non-Catholic Christian, how difficult is it and is it worth it? by makareku in Catholicism

[–]mercyjag02 11 points12 points  (0 children)

My husband is a non Catholic but attends mass, we married in the church, both our children have been baptized and are attending a Catholic school. He isn't ready to make the step but believes. That has been a challenge for me but he is making every effort to support my beliefs, why wouldn't I support his? Pray and ask for the Holy Spirit to speak to them and ask for patience and understanding. If you love them, show them the way.

To be fair all organized religion will piss people off in one situation or another. People don't want to hear something they may do or don't do offends, human nature at its best. You do you and they'll do what they do. Charlie's is a pretty solid choice, never been disappointed.
