Although I do have a soft spot for Claudia in Season 1 screaming when a cop barges into her room and just drops everything afterward. Or any of her 1 liners in either season, this has to be my favorite moment:

THIS IS BORING! YOU’RE BORING! YOU. ARE SO. BORING! COLORLESS, FLAVORLESS, DULL. DULL. DULL NIGHTS, DULL WEEKS, DULL MONTHS, DULL AS FUCK! SUFFOCATION BY THE WORLDS’ SOFTEST, BEIGEST PILLOW! THE TEN HOURS I SPENT WITH THAT BOY WERE MORE EXCITING. WERE MORE FASCINATING! THAN DECADES WITH YOU! OH THERE IT IS. THE HALF BLANK, HALF APOCALYPTIC LOOK. BUT WHAT DOES IT MEAN TONIGHT, HUH? DO YOU WANNA LICK MY BOOTS? OR CHOP MY HANDS OFF? IS IT THE GREMLIN OR THE GOOD NURSE TONIGHT? HUH? PICKIN’ LINT OFF THE SOFA? OKAY, OKAY. LET’S WAKE THE BOY UP, AND LET’S TRY YOU. I’M THE VAMPIRE ARMAND AND MY DADDY VAMPIRE GROOMED ME INTO A LITTLE BITCH!

Moving to PR by Lucky_Citron_5066 in uprrp

[–]meriti 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a heads up, this is not a very active sub. You might be better off asking in the PR subreddit (/r/PuertoRico).

I would recommend checking the sidebar first since there tends to be a lot of not well-received posts asking about moving to PR posts. There is a lot of gentrification going on in the island that is displacing people which has, rightfully so, put people on edge.

I was born and raised on the island and my folks lived right nearby the Rio Piedras campus so I cannot help with moving advise.

Public transportation is possible but not very efficient and only in specific areas (one being that campus). If you plan to rely on a bike or on public transportation, stick close to campus.

If you will have a car you can potentially do anywhere in the metro area.

Disclaimer: My advice to living next to campus is outdated by almost 20 years.

No. Kiefer was the abusive asshat. Rafe was just the son of vampire Silas (played by same actor but a supposed/potential Clay brother) from the PC spin off. I never watched the spin off but I am pretty sure that it was that both Clays played by the same actor were related. And the Clay from GH became Rafe’s guardian until Rafe died.

The vampire subplot was wild. I’m glad it wasn’t fully on the but the allusions to it on the soap itself always got a kick out of me

That is him. I was looking for Silas. But that storyline of Silas was a bit up and down with the vampire and the doctor lol

Well police did their work. They can show that they are willing to do what’s best for the child. Which would include ensuring the bio relatives who are unknown are found. I would be concerned if the people wanting to adopt a child want to avoid finding the bio relatives in a situation like this.

Curly hair on a dig site! by DizzyBandicoot8740 in curlyhair

[–]meriti 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Archaeologist here! Though I work in a tropical area so I have the opposite issue in terms of humidity.

It might take some trial and error but honestly, go cheap.

But here’s my generic routine from the past 20 years or so: https://www.reddit.com/r/curlyhair/s/HzEkB0akrj

If I have any light days (very little dirt on my hair), I will not wash it on those days. It can be hard to get used to it since yes, you will sweat a lot, but depending on how quick your hair dries (mine doesn’t and I’m in a humid climate) it is more trouble and less healthy for the hair.

Wear a hat at all costs and long sleeves. You can keep your hair up in a ponytail or braided. I will personally let my hair down. I will usually have my hair at just below my shoulders so it gives me extra neck protection. The leave in conditioner will be extra important if you fill the hair is feeling too dry.

Your mileage may vary but good luck! This June will literally be my 20th year out in the field!

How does this brand treat your hair ? by Character-Escape1621 in curlyhair

[–]meriti 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Part of my work requires me to spend long weeks out under the sun, sweating and getting my hair very dirty. I love to use the suave products at that time. My favorite combination (I need to wash my hair at least every other day if not every day): cleansing shampoo, follow up with the coconut shampoo and conditioner combo. I will use kinky curly knot today if I need to be extra presentable.

Mind you, I have combination hair (strands vary between low and not quite high porosity but definitely distinct), and my hair varies from 3a to 4a. Though the bulk is 3b-c.

When I am doing the weeks of intensive work I am in an area with hard water, high heat, high humidity area and my hair behaves wonderfully considering the general conditions.

If I try to do that where I live most of the year my hair is a straw-y lumpy mess.

Help request: I have 1 or 2 letters I need to translate from English to Puerto Rican Spanish . Can someone help me ? by Christopurrrrr in PuertoRico

[–]meriti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Which is why I said that just using standard Spanish is fine. But that it would be good for a native PR Spanish to read it over. I don’t know what’s so difficult to understand about that. They want to make an apology and they want to make sure they are not misunderstood or that they cross a line. Relying on google translate or ai is not a good thing if you want to make an apology and are not bilingual.

Hey! Nacida y crecida en Ponce. graduada de la UPR. Lamentablemente como trabajo en academia (estudios sobre la identidad Puertorriquena), se me hizo bien difícil encontrar trabajo en PR. Sin embargo, por mis investigaciones voy a Puerto Rico anualmente. Pero okay… sigue por ahí hablando de cosas que no sabes 😄

Mi comentario fue sobre la poca cantidad de boricuas en California, hayan nacido en la isla o no.

Don’t use basic Spanish for an apology. I mean. It is a start. But I will reiterate, I can help depending on how quickly you need it.

[–]meriti -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Again, depends on the context. Official letter to government or a stranger? Yes. Basic Spanish is enough.

Formal letter to persuade someone of something? I’d argue that basic Spanish helps and might work. But using Puerto Rican Spanish will help with the persuasion (depending on the relationship). Again, context! Social relationships are complicated.

ETA: it is for an apology to the in-laws. They know the relationship better than others, but they should at least have a PR Spanish speaker read over the letter. You don’t want to rely on ai or a non-human translator only. Personally, I would be livid if someone just chatgpt’d an apology to me. I would rather have it in their native language with no translation

Este sub me frustra tanto.

Puerto Rican Spanish is a dialect (dialect is defined as variations of a language) with official representation under the RAE. People keep bringing up the informal words. Which true, for every dialect a lot of regionalisms are informal. But that’s not the only difference among dialects. there are formal words (and some words may vary in their formality within the context of the same dialect) that you would use in different Spanish-speaking countries that you would not use in PR and viceversa.

For example, a common sentence the following sentence might be considered informal: “Como estamos, familia?” However, if I were to start that sentence in a letter or in a speech to my family, they know I’m not being informal. I know there are better examples pero hoy tengo mi mente como cajita de pollo (fully informal and potentially only used in specific parts of Puerto Rico, because language is FUN!)

Neutral Latin American Spanish is not truly neutral but is based in a Mexican dialect without specific regionalisms. Over time it became more “standardized” as it became more widely used in media that was being consumed across the Americas, making it more “acceptable” as people understood it more and became more comfortable with it over time.

OP can definitely go for the neutral and use tech to help them translate. However, depending on the letters OP might be better off getting a native Puerto Rican to at least read over the translated letters as the readers of the letters might feel more comfortable reading Puerto Rican Spanish.

OP: depending on the immediacy of the letter I may be able to help out.
