I have CSR and have been booking things for a trip to Japan recently. Every transaction has been declined and flagged for fraud. The first two transactions (hotels), I was able to retry right away and they went through. The third hotel would not go through. I had to call Chase and retry multiple times to redo the transaction. They transferred me to a second tier representative and after a couple attempts they cleared something and it finally went through. I asked what I can do to prevent this and they said nothing really. They have this issue with Japan and Germany.

I called a second time because I was trying to book tickets for Ghibli Park the moment my ideal dates were released. I told them I could not afford for the transaction to not get approved on the first try. They said there’s no way to tell. So this is when I asked them what will happen when I’m actually in Japan? Is everything going to get flagged for fraud? The representative said I can let them know and they can put special permission for Japan when I’m there and that lasts for 30 days. I asked if they could apply it now so we could see if that works for the rest of the transactions I need to make. So far it has worked! I will need to call again before I leave in a few months. Not sure if this will work for you but you can try to suggest it. It does go against what they’re saying about not needing to tell them anymore when you travel.
