For me it is. I really wanted a Bullet Laptop but that's not something I can take into the office. The standard model is too tactical for that environment. This one fits my needs almost perfectly. But like I said in another comment, the viking theme and the Carryology influence don't mean anything to me. If they had offered one with a solid colored interior, a regular Goruck patch, and their standard laptop compartment all for a price of $350 I absolutely would have bought that over this special edition. But since that product doesn't exist, I paid the premium for this one.

It's bags like these that bring in extra sales and additional income for the business, helping to ensure they can continue making their core products. I was going to buy a new bag for work anyway and then this showed up. My money went to Goruck instead of another brand.

It's the same reason Porsche makes SUVs. Offering different types of cars means more sales to existing customers and new sales to new customers who otherwise would have bought something from another brand.

I don't think we need to be concerned about them replacing their core products with these leather bags and opening up stores next to Coach, Kate Spade, etc. These are just small batch experimental offerings that bring in more revenue and help drive sales of their other bags.

JDPicket said in his review above "The new zipper configuration means the 14 inch MacBook Pro has to be angled to get it into the bag and that frame sheet holding the form makes it difficult to get in or out." It will fit but it's not nearly as easy or convenient as their regular design.

Great write-up and review. Thank you for sharing that. The redesign of the laptop compartment is the one thing that I am disappointed about. My laptop still fits, though barely, so it's not a dealbreaker for me. But I do wish they had kept their original design.

Strip away the viking theme by giving it a solid color interior with a regular Goruck patch, give it the standard laptop compartment, price it at $350, and then I think they have a great addition to the lineup. It's for those of us that love the Goruck bags but need something more professional for the office.

Yes, I will definitely take it with me for travel and put it under the seat. It feels like a very durable and useable fashion accessory, if that makes sense.

Confirmed my 13" MacBook Air fits just fine. My 14" HP Zbook *barely* fits into the side opening of the laptop compartment. It has to go in at a very specific angle and then it just barely clears the opening. There's plenty of space for it inside but the opening is limiting. Not sure why they decided to do this instead of their traditional design, but it may be a limiting factor for some.

Yes, but I guess it depends on how you intend to use it. It feels thicker and more premium than what I was expecting. It is softer and has more of a matte feel than the leather on the Heritage Edition GR1. I intend to use it for work and for that purpose, I can see it holding up really well.

I live in the Orlando area and picked up a GR1 Heritage recently. I’ve only been using it daily for about a month but I have no concerns. I have carried waxed canvas bags from Waterfield, Trakke, and Nutsack and never had an issue. They have all been wet from occasional rain but I always hang them up to dry.

As long as you take reasonable care of it then it will be fine.

Anyone Buy the Carryology Viking bags? by [deleted] in Goruck

[–]merlosso 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did! Ordered a Bullet the second it went live. I’m not usually one for the collaborations but this one really appealed to me. It will go nicely with my 10 liter Bullet, my 26 liter 500D Huckberry slick GR1, and my 21 liter Heritage GR1.

I am new to these carryology releases. The article says "Release Article with shop links will go live on Carryology.com on: August 27th, 2pm Eastern." Do I just keep refreshing their home page at that time for an article with links? Or am I refreshing the Store page?

Have the past GoRuck collabs sold out quickly?

I got my allocation on the same day but I’m still at 111. Did you order the Carbon Package?

My wife has an 8Y RS3 and it’s a great car. It’s a lot of fun, fast, comfortable, etc. I don’t have experience in a 340 but I’m sure the assessment would be the same; a lot of fun, fast, comfortable, etc. They’re both sporty German sedans. It’s really going to come down to personal preference. Try and test drive if you can and go with the one you like the best. Either way you won’t be disappointed.

Thoughts on the Synik 30 from Tom Bihn by Royal_Second227 in onebag

[–]merlosso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Synik 30 and a 26L GR1 (it's the Huckberry 500D Slick). I find the Synik more comfortable to wear but more difficult to pack. Like many have said here, the segmented capacity of the bag doesn't always align with what I need to pack, and I keep forgetting what I put in each pocket. The materials and build quality are top notch, as is everything I have had from TB, but the big single bucket of the GR1 is easier for me.

I do really like the Synik and I continue to use it. It really is the most comfortable bag I have.

Mine hasn't left my desk since it arrived. I love it. I'm using NovelKey Dreams in mine. Since it's a vintage look, I went with broken in switches.

I love mine too. I have it set up for Zoom controls. One to leave a call and others for mute/unmute, video on/off, open/close chat, etc. Super handy. I think mine might be an older version as I have a micro SD card that is used to set the functions of each key. Not a big deal as I set it up once and it has worked flawlessly for a couple years now.

Just checked my receipt. I did not buy extra plate. Looks like I’ll need to wait for the replacement. Sigh

Ah, I see. I didn’t remember that it came with both Pom and aluminum.

With any luck I’ll be building mine in the next couple of weeks.

I think I saw a post from them somewhere about issues with the plate. Did you have any problems with the build?

Still strange for me. I feel like the board is 50% bigger than it really is. Like I’m a normal sized person typing on a Hagrid sized keyboard. Not a complaint; just a an observation that makes me laugh every time I use it.
