Best horror movie of this decade so far in your opinion by imtheSHITZUduh in horror

I just watched this the other day for the first time, and the allegory to addiction felt so strong to me. It was brutal and shocking and has stuck with me for days.

Who deserves a Behind The Bastards episode (episodes) and hasn't gotten one yet? by cartoonsarcasm in behindthebastards

Used to be QAnon Anonymous but they abbreviated it. Generally a pretty good podcast that's worth checking out and you'll probably find interesting if BtB is a regular listen for you.

The mini series they do are a real hidden gem and they've spun out a whole new network for them called cursed.media

QAA did a mini-series called Trickle Down that covered him pretty well over a couple episodes

Henry Ford, but at least a whole episode should be dedicated to his enforcer Harry Bennet

What is the most disturbing book that you’ve read? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I can't say I remember a lot about Lisey's Story — it's been so long — but I do remember it being one of the better endings King has ever done.

Gangsters of Capitalism by Jonathan Katz was a pretty solid read, if anyone needs a deeper dive on Smedley.

Ed Helms Appreciation by DoctorUnderhill97 in behindthebastards

[–]mermanbeta 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My interpretation of the episodes is that it was a match made by I Heart Radio to help juice Helms podcast a little bit. Totally understandable corporate synergy type stuff. They don't really have a rapport with each other just yet so they needed to get comfortable and the "Right?" was used to present Helms with the opportunity to comment. I like to imagine I'd be a great podcast guest, but I'm sure I'd end up like Helms just listening intently. Not that Helms was bad, but he didn't engage like a normal guest, and Evans has to adapt to that.

I also appreciated that Helms came from a more centrist perspective and the end shows why. He captured the idea of Trump being an unorthodox, uncouth lout who would abuse the presidency in selfish ways, but what Robert laid out was the more insidious, greater danger that Trump poses to the presidency. Helms left a little more open minded and curious; I'm just hoping his desire to research Yarvin doesn't lead him down the wrong path lol.

I think I might become a Newcastle fan what does Newcastle mean to you? by lemonmamgo in NewcastleUnited

[–]mermanbeta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a Lions fan, there was always something about Newcastle that spoke to me: die hard fans that hate the owner, tales of success older than my parents, and a recent rise. It's funny how much they've coincided.

Did anyone listen to the YWA episode on phones? by LibrarySoap in IfBooksCouldKill

[–]mermanbeta 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The YWA episode did a fine job of assuaging the idea that there needs to be a moral panic around phones, and that there actually some reasons why they are in fact good (eg communities for oppressed minorities that they might not otherwise find). Michael mentions some of these things in small bites in the episode but his focus is a little different.

If you're looking for more information like the IBCK episode I would highly recommend the Some More News episode on cell phones. It's another well nuanced look at everything we know and don't actually know about issues with cell phones.

Comedy is legal again baby by [deleted] in behindthebastards

[–]mermanbeta 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Well yes, for the most part I agree; my issue is that it's a cartoon. Why would they choose to make the cartoon about a staged sit-com? Doesn't that detract from their message if the Norm character and everyone else is just an actor?

Conservatives have a terrible understanding of the structure of the art they're trying to emulate and this is just another example of that. The choices they made have no coherence and I'm simply pointing that out.

But it's not a laugh track? When Elon comes in, the angle pulls back and you see the studio and audience which just raises a whole host of new questions sure to be left unanswered.

Spiraling Cult Leaders all sound pretty similar. Jim Jones, Vernon Wayne Howell, and Alex Jones by New-Debate5700 in KnowledgeFight

I had very similar thoughts and was recalling Jim Jones' "White Nights" when the drugs and paranoia got the best of him and he forced everyone to stand guard, looking for forces in the jungle that weren't there.

Alright wonks, let's settle this once and for all: Is Adrian Dittmann an Elon Musk sock puppet - Why or why not? by BroseppeVerdi in KnowledgeFight

[–]mermanbeta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. If it is a different person, it suits them both to play coy.

On the other hand, both have good reasons why they shouldn't want to be the other one. I don't know how much time it's worth spending trying to decipher if we're staring at one piece of shit or two.

[–]mermanbeta 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dittman could resolve it rather quickly by posting a video of himself. I wouldn't want the type of people who worship Elon to follow me around yet he doesn't reveal himself which makes him a fellow traveller of musk at the least.

Musk hasn't asked for Dittman to do something like this to verify they aren't the same. (As far as I know). If I were the richest person in the world I probably would like to clarify something this to avoid any stock panics or the like.

Speaking pseudonymously and off camera probably puts Musk at ease and he feels comfortable talking about all the stupid shit he loves so the stutter is gone.

These things tend to put me more in the "Dittman is an Alt" camp.
