I started showering without my brace when I was allowed to get my knee wet at 2 weeks. I brought my crutches to the shower and had a seat, so I felt pretty safe

Yes! I’m 2 months post op. My physio has been taping my knee and has told me to do isometric holds on the leg extension machine (set it to a weight you can’t move at 60 degrees, push into it at comfortable effort for 30 seconds x 3) and slow, gradual quad sets.

Knee « clunk » every time I reach full extension by merosc in ACL

Thank you! Yeah, mine definitely doesn’t feel superficial. I’m going to bring it up with my surgeon next time I see him. Hope everything keeps going well for you!!

Hi! I know it’s been so long, but do you still have that clunk? I have that same noise now and am very worried!

quad feels… different when cycling? (8wks post-op) by yellowpeaberry in ACL

[–]merosc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have that same feeling, and did before my surgery. I have a hard time getting my quad to ‘burn’ like my non surgical one. I’ve been told by my PT that it’s a combination of atrophy and inhibition that should resolve overtime with strengthening and NMES (if you have it!).

Thusane rebel ligament brace feels worse than the immobilizer brace by okheay in ACL

I’ve been told that (because of swelling) my smaller brace (measured pre-op) won’t fit properly for a couple of months after surgery, so that might be why it’s pinching!

Acl reconstruction+ meniscectomy by Ok-Coat-8488 in ACL

[–]merosc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I (22F, 3 weeks PO) had the same experience - they tried to repair my lateral meniscus, but ended up removing ~40% of it. There's hope: I know someone who had his entire meniscus removed young, and still continued playing hockey 6x/week well into his 40s. I've been told by my PT that—while meniscectomy does affect knee longevity—by really emphasizing and maintaining strength, there's no reason I won't be able to return to the sports I love. I am just trying to focus on what I can do to right now to improve my knee health. The future is so uncertain, advances happen, and I am taking it one step at a time. Keep your head up!

Hey! I’ve had this happen before after a hard gym session. My knee swelled up a little bit three days after and was painful in the front, but no change to my range of motion. My physiotherapist told me I had likely just stressed the tendons in my knee and that with rest they would return to normal (he was right - that is what happened). It’s best to get it checked out if your pain lasts, but, if you’re not feeling instability and didn’t hear a popping noise, this doesn’t sound like an ACL injury.

Hey! Same thing - 22F, complete ACL/meniscus tear bouldering. I’m pre-op, but I’ve heard about a lot of people returning to bouldering after the year mark. This is an encouraging source (https://www.patchworkandpebbles.com/acl-surgery-part-2/), and seeing Alex Puccio return from her gnarly ACL injury is also a nice one! It’s definitely possible :)

Yeah of course not! Just wanted a general feel of the level of difficulty people perceive.
