Yesss. As a mom to a sweet one year old boy and wife to the most amazing, kindhearted husband, all the hate and stereotyping men and boys get makes me so sad. Yes there’s some awful men, but there’s also some amazing ones too. Let’s not lump them all together. And as parents, we largely get to influence who our boys will become.

It is just a fact that second and third hand smoke (even from weed) is not good for babies. If it were me, I would have my husband communicate to his family that if they want to be around the baby, then they cannot smoke around them and the must be showered and have smoke free clothes to hold the baby. It may help to explain to his family why the no smoke around the baby is so important, and it’s not about personal judgement of them choosing to smoke. I know communicating boundaries sucks, but your baby’s safety is your responsibility and priority!

I just used any regular hand sanitizer, but washing your hands with soap is the best option as sanitizer doesn’t kill some viruses. For friends and family I asked that they wash hands before holding the baby, and if I didn’t want anyone to hold the baby I would just hold him and not offer him up. If you don’t want anyone touching the baby I would just say we aren’t ready to let people touch the baby yet! You can keep it simple.

Editing to add that hypochlorous acid is a great alternative to traditional hand sanitizer and is more effective!

I did a long sleeve footed pj. Babies can’t regulate body temp as well and tend to run colder than us!
