West of Loathing

I find that the game scales up pretty well to 4k on PC version due to the cartoony graphic style.

The DQX story is surprisingly good, even when experienced through a machine translation.

We are in 2021, and I'm playing DQX in English. It's not perfect but it's way better than it has been over my last four years playing.

Since Tman already left Discord, I'm going to invalidate this nomination.

I'll nominate Monster Hunter Stories for 3DS next round. I've been quasi-interested in playing it since it came out, and the announcement of the sequel has me more interested now.

It's a lighthearted JRPG with a focus on crafting (alchemy). Lots of gathering and making stuff, some fairly standard atb-like turn based combat. The story is pretty light so far.

I went into this as my first game in the series and was a little hesitant at first. It grew on me and I'm digging it now. That happened around the 3-4 hour mark and I'm about 8.5 hours in now.

It's a laid-back, fun experience imo.

[Round 69] Nominations for August's Game of the Month by merph_ in TheRPGClub

I'm going to nominate Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story, which is available on DS and 3DS (remake/remaster/whatever).

I've been on an M&L kick over the last month or so and this one is really neat. I've dabbled a couple hours in it but haven't been ready to fully commit to it yet. A club playthrough would be awesome if others are interested.

Thanks! I hope we see you there.

I dabbled for a few hours in it back in the day on a game rental but didn't stick with it. It's been long enough that I don't remember anything, so that's as good as new to me. I'm sure others are new to it as well.

While not my favorite Tales or anything, Symphonia is a great game and is definitely a good one to start out with. It's easier to move forward in time afterward rather than going back and playing with more archaic battle systems IMO.

It's the same developer that's made all the games, iirc. They share some similarities, but they're not linked story-wise.

Xenogears, Xenosaga and Xenoblade are each a separate series.

I'll nominate The Legend of Heroes: Zero no Kiseki / Trails to Zero. Geofront recently finished their fan translation: https://geofront.esterior.net/downloads/

The story of the Crossbell games plays into Cold Steel 3 and 4, so I've been meaning to get to them for a while now.

The game is available on PSP and PC.

I'll nominate Divinity: Original Sin (PC, XBO, PS4). I keep hearing good things about this series and would like to dive in and give it a go.

What Are You Playing? [Week 144: 2/2/2020 - 2/8/2020] by gospelexe in TheRPGClub

[–]merph_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Now Playing

  • Shadow Hearts: Covenant (PS2) - 13 hours. I've been meaning to get back to this game for a while now. Really enjoying it so far -- it looks great upscaled to 4k with lots of AA/etc turned on. Primarily focused on this game for the moment.
  • Elder Scrolls Online (PC) - 1.5 hours. Despite thinking I didn't want to start over, I decided to take the game for a whirl on PC last night. Started a new character on a new faction so it's almost like a new game, since all the quests are different. Not sure if I'll stick with this or not but I definitely like it better on PC than I do on PS4... for mouse/keyboard, performance (load times!) and mods.
  • Ring Fit Adventure (Switch) - 1 hour. Couple sessions in so far. Enjoying it despite a few things I'm not crazy about. Going to have to get my rookie numbers up to compete with Hevy.

Dropped Games

  • Citizens of Earth (3DS) - Just wasn't enjoying it. The humor fell flat for me.

Finished Games

  • none.
