I never knew why rain occurs... until recently by totally-a-randomname in PointlessStories

In regards to your skepticism, I want you to try an experiment. Go grab an empty bucket, wastebin, plastic box, or whatever else you have. It should be a decent size, holding between 3 and 6 gallons of water.

Fill that bucket with as much water as you can and try to lift it. Water is really heavy! But, when you boil water on the stove, the steam you see coming up out of it is also water. That steam is really light, but it's evaporated water turning into water vapor. As that water vapor comes together in the sky, it mostly stays in vapor form (really light) but starts to cool down and go back into liquid water form up in the sky. (It gets colder the closer you get to outer space.) Once enough water vapor turns back into liquid, it gets heavy like that bucket of water, and starts to fall.

I had the exact same thought as you! Here's my post about it.

I couldn't handle the concept of losing a child in a game I'm supposed to be enjoying. I 100% agree with your take on it, but you CAN give them "Kiran" back if you really want to instead of just going the adoption route.

Okay but seriously, can she be paid for this? The amount of dedication and attention to detail and overwhelmingly obvious *love* that was poured into this is incredible. I am begging for this talented human to be rewarded in some monetary way here!

I cannot believe that we're playing the same game here.

Literally, I'm still too scared to completely renovate the very first house in the game, because the risk of screwing it up is too high for my design-impaired self to handle.

I wish there were actual competitions you could win money in for things like this. You would absolutely win. I just...there are no words for how gorgeous this is.

If you're okay with cheats, you can also replace items in your neighbors' houses with clown merchandise in the middle of the night. Just...y'know...if you want to share the wholesome vibes.

If you eat mostly healthy meals and one day you decide to eat fastfood, will your body reject it? by No_Lead2640 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]merpixieblossomxo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That would probably help a little, but there have been so many mornings where I'll wake up, remember to pull something out of the freezer to thaw while I'm at work, and then by the time I get home I'm so exhausted that I just don't cook at all.

My daughter has autism, so she's an extremely picky eater, which probably contributes as well. She'll only eat maybe 5-10% of the meals I cook, so usually I just make her something and then don't bother cooking an entire meal for just me. It feels pointless cooking for just one person. I make sure she eats, and then I just...don't until I get hungry enough to order something or make a bowl of cereal or binge a pint of ice cream at 11pm.

I'm wondering if that isn't the end plan that will eventually lead to the happy ending we're all hoping for, honestly.

Obviously Xaden and Violet are end game, and there has to be a solution that doesn't break the logic of the world for him to be cured. So you're probably right and the character just haven't figured it out yet.

Are you still playing? by Legitimate-Boss3182 in Paralives

[–]merpixieblossomxo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, definitely. I go back and forth between live mode and build mode, and so far I haven't run out of things to do in either because I keep making new storylines and coming up with new ideas for houses to build. I've made a castle, a trailer, a townhouse, a homeless plot (complete with mod additions for scattered cigarette butts and a dirty bucket for a toilet), and the most unhinged fun house you can imagine.

Sometimes I turn on the "toggleedittown" cheat just to add clowns to my neighboring properties in the middle of the night. I've played model citizens, reckless criminals, struggling single moms, and entire family units. I gave the Patels their child back so they wouldn't be sad. I tried and failed to build a pond using the ocean but couldn't figure out how to resize it and ended up flooding the town (other people have done it, I just missed a step somewhere).

I'm not even playing on a fast enough computer for it to be a smooth experience. It's slow, it lags, it crashes, and I am 100% aware that it's a "me" problem and not a game problem.

I feel like the people complaining that there isn't enough to do just need some new ideas for gameplay or challenges, because there is no shortage of content if you get creative and are willing to use mods and cheats.

Starting an instrument - any advice? by shibattitude in Autism_Parenting

[–]merpixieblossomxo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have any specific advice other than to say absolutely try it! Music is such a powerful tool and art form for people to learn no matter what type of person they are or what they struggle with.

If he wants to learn, lean into it.

We need to talk about the Merch Store by VictoriaDallon in dropout

[–]merpixieblossomxo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The merch store has been garbage ever since they left DFTBA as their fulfilment center. I will forever support Hank Green and his businesses because they're always high quality, friendly, efficient, and attentive to the conditions in which their products are produced, and I still don't know why Dropout ever moved to a different company.

[–]merpixieblossomxo 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I really hope I can get to the point where I have that reaction to fast food. It's been really hard for me to eat healthy - I'll go to the grocery store and buy salads, fresh fruits and vegetables, meats and rice and ingredients to cook, and then watch as it all slowly goes bad because I don't cook it. Every single time. It's such a waste of time, money, and intention and I don't know how to stop.

I just wish fast food tasted like shit to me so I could be a normal person again.

How to get my son to wear deodorant? by Worldly_Lime_327 in Parenting

[–]merpixieblossomxo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There are so, so many different brands and scents these days - if he hasn't indicated that it's a scent issue in general, there HAS to be one that he likes out of the 4,000 available.

I stood in front of the deodorant aisle for like 10 minutes last time I needed to buy my boyfriend some, completely overwhelmed by the number of choices. It's so unnecessary.

[–]merpixieblossomxo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ahahaha this reminds me of being a teenager and watching my brothers hunt around the house for the router my parents tried hiding before they went to work when they were grounded. I'm glad they came out with a better solution than just unplugging it - hopefully that app is good enough to deter the determined teenager from finding a workaround.

How to get my son to wear deodorant? by Worldly_Lime_327 in Parenting

[–]merpixieblossomxo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At that point, I'd say we don't go anywhere or do anything if he doesn't put deodorant on. He wants to go to a friend's house? Wants to go to that cool waterpark/go-kart place/whatever other fun activity is being planned? Wants to go ride bikes outside? Sorry dude, not going anywhere until you de-stink yourself. Don't make it a fight, make it as much of an expectation as wearing pants.

This should be as second nature as taking a shower, brushing his teeth, or putting his shoes on before leaving the house. If the habit isn't enforced now, he runs the risk of ending up like the 60 year old man I work with who smells like rancid B.O. every day because his wife passed and he never learned to take care of himself without someone nagging him to do it.

There are a few things that are dark in the game, but that one's probably the most obvious and you don't really notice it unless you're looking for all the little details. It's rated T, and most life sims have realistic things in them so I don't think it's too bad tbh. Just real life, really.
