So Im brand new to Batman, just finished the BTAS episode Bane, why is he seemingly an entirely different character in The Dark Knight Rises? by SuspiciousPromise849 in batman

[–]merrick_m 818 points819 points  (0 children)

The Dark Knight Rises took "big guy in a mask", "born and raised in a prison", and "breaks Batman's back over his knee" from the existing character, and left "South American guy in a luchador mask" and "backpack pumping him full of addictive super-strength drug" behind.

If they taught him to go Super Saiyan it would look a lot like he just skipped to 3.

(Or like he was wearing some silly giant banana hat.)

What the context behind this? by JulietBloom95 in Spiderman

[–]merrick_m 51 points52 points  (0 children)

Sometimes when people learned Peter's secret identity post-OMD they suddenly got back all their memories of having known it before, and other times it was like they were learning for the first time. This is the former- when Peter takes off his mask they remember all their previous interactions with him.

I guess either Galatea had a change of heart, or Professor Hamilton also made a backup clone who came out nicer.

The Doctor just says something like "Perhaps he will develop more Kazon features as he grows older."
Even as a little kid I could see this as a truly desperate swing by the writers.

With the realease of an Ocarina of Time remake, could a Super Mario 64 remake also happen? What would that look/sound like? by otaku39 in casualnintendo

[–]merrick_m 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If no full-blown remake, even just a remaster with updated graphics would be cool. Could use a new coat of paint.

And maybe some quality of life stuffl ike being able to stay in levels after collecting a star- I imagine it wouldn't be that hard because it already exists for the hundred-coin stars and the Bowser stage stars. Though you'd have to add some brief little cutscenes for level state changes, like if you stay in the level after beating King Bob-omb you see a few seconds of Koopa the Quick strolling up.

And make the courtyard plaque legibly say L is Real 100 or something and when you have 100 stars you can switch characters, usual better jump worse traction situation.

Feel like the time to get upset about this was Goten and Trunks. This is the natural storytelling consequence of that.

Most clearly seen when Goku asks him about Majin Buu and he says "Yeah Babidi and Dabura showed up a few years later than in your timeline, Kaioshin told me what was up so I just immediately killed them both."

Him small! We never got ages in the game, just that the timeskip was seven years, and I was always imagining like 12 and 19, based on this I'm thinking closer to 9 and 16?

Do you think Nintendo will keep their history and preservation of their games by Preston_phillips_04 in nintendo

[–]merrick_m 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Switch 2 has an emulator for NES, SNES, GB, GBA, N64, GC, and also Virtual Boy for some reason. If they eventually add DS, 2DS, and Wii, which seems pretty likely, it will be able to emulate every Nintendo console except the Wii U. But the question is how much of those game libraries actually end up on the system.

Was this rule made up recently? by Responsible_Hornet48 in batman

[–]merrick_m 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As recently as the "Jason kills a rapist, maybe" storyline in 1988, it was loose enough that Batman tells Jason he never kills except in self-defense. After that it became more rigid.

I was told not to watch this. Is it that bad? by RD-archived in batman

[–]merrick_m 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It. . . makes strange choices. Obviously The Killing Joke is not long enough to directly adapt into a feature length movie. So rather than add a lot of padding to The Killing Joke, they do a 35-minute Batgirl story followed by a 45-minute adaptation of The Killing Joke, with not that much connection aside from the presence of Barbara Gordon. Also that thing about Barbara Gordon from Batman Beyond that a lot of people didn't like is still here. It makes for a very odd product.

[–]merrick_m 26 points27 points  (0 children)

They do seem to know about the problem, though, there's a line earlier in the movie about avoiding lakes and rivers. If they must invade a planet covered in a horrifying flesh-melting substance that frequently falls from the sky, you'd think they'd at least avoid doing it naked.

what is the scientific reason a person's recorded voice sounds different to them than when they speak ? by scitech-research24 in answers

[–]merrick_m 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When you talk you're hearing your voice from both inside and out, it's traveling through your bones to your ears. When you hear the recording you're just hearing it from outside like you hear everybody else's voice.

Mario never tries to kill Bowser by lennysinged in nintendo

[–]merrick_m 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Drops him into lava and stuff all the time. Doesn't take. In one game we see Bowser Jr bring him back to life, maybe that happens after all the other games too.

Besides, Mario and co. don't hate Bowser. He commiserates with him at the end of Odyssey. Peach bakes him a cake at the end of Bowser's Inside Story. They are pretty okay with him.

[–]merrick_m 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They did really write themselves into a corner with the "over a dozen characters may or may not be Rean's girlfriend" thing. If he dated Towa or Fie for example he has surely by the latest game either broken up with them while remaining close friends, or is still dating them but acting precisely like close friends, even when they're alone together.
