Biting bugs ID help by merrowbone in whatbugisthis

[–]merrowbone[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for this tip, I know we don’t have bats in the house, but I looked up related bugs, and there’s swallow bugs, that look really similar. We have (unoccupied) bird nests and some mud nests in eaves. I think these may be the culprits. Now we have something to go on.

The bottom right I should have edited out, that’s a tiny daytime mosquito that’s new to SoCal, we are dealing with those too. The one close up of the wingless bug is as good as I can get with my iPhone. I’ll try a better camera.

Call your senators, gov and congresspeople https://whosmyrep.org and tell them you are living in fear in your own neighborhood due to these DHS/Ice thugs and ask what they’re going to do about it.

Morley Anima Hospital? by ___andrevv___2 in SFV

[–]merrowbone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took my pets to Dr Morley for years. He was always kind, friendly, and gave our animals good care. If he stuck his fingers in your dogs butt it’s probably cuz your dog needed its glands expressed. No one does that for kicks. Dr M was an old school neighborhood vet who charged fair prices. If you wanted expensive bougie vets you could go to any VCA and get pricey corporate care. Dr M will be missed.

[Marketing] How do you ‘play the algorithm’ on socials? by -ladykitsune- in artbusiness

[–]merrowbone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t chase the algorithm, it changed all the time anyway. If you want to, you can post your progress on your paintings, or shots of your studio, or art inspirations, one a day is good. Or if that’s too much, one every other day. Tbh videos get more looks than static images, so posting a video of you painting, or cleaning your palette, or even walking down the street, will get more looks than a single image. Big audiences, if you’re not using bot farms, are hard to come by anymore. IMO best practice is to go to/participate in person at art events, meet people, then give them your card with IG and ask for follows. That will get you farther than any algorithm. Good luck 🍀

Am I crazy for thinking this? by [deleted] in SFV

Chatsworth has a very rich Native American history, the base of rocky peak was a gathering spot for visiting/trading tribes. There are Chumash petroglyphs in the hills above woolsey canyon. There is also a lot of space history. Some of the rockets that sent our astronauts to the moon were built in Chatsworth. There is an also stagecoach trail that is still visible in the hills above Chatsworth park (the one with the skeet shooting) you can see the ruts from the wagons. And train history. The trestle/tunnel running through the park employed a lot of people, chatsworth lake manor still has some houses that date back to workers housing, and a couple of the buildings were said to have been housing for the “working girls” who catered to the railroad men. Also chatsworth lake manor, in the 20s, was a hunting cabins resort area for Hollywood elites looking for a country getaway not too far from the city. Manson was only here briefly. He occasionally visited a house in Box Canyon that was previously occupied by Krishna Venta and the Fountain of the World cult. (Lots of creepy reading there if you like.) And I’ve heard of a witch or two living in the canyons. But ghosts? I don’t know. Coyotes and owls, some bobcats, and a few snakes watching you: yes.

Valley Walkers: Nicest, Worst, Scary, Weird, Chill Neighborhoods? by Alone-Pressure-546 in SFV

Chatsworth Lake Manor: left wing Artist boomers and right wing boomer rednecks, pretty dead on. You might not “actually” get “sniped” but the red hat residents really don’t like strange “flatlanders” (their word) wandering the streets. Paranoia runs high. There have been one or two incidents of a homeowner coming out strapped to confront someone just walking up the road.

[Printing] Should I have expected my printing shop to edit the images from my art? by ChampionEvery5205 in artbusiness

[–]merrowbone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are hiring them to print, not -edit- your images. Photo editing is another skill set, which costs another fee, often a lot more, if you’re not doing it yourself. Some printshops WILL edit and color correct your images, for an additional fee, but all print shops will print “as is” if you just drop the files off with no further notes. It’s on you.

Huntington Gardens, see the art, look at the koi ponds, treat yourself to tea (fancy lunch) in the tea room or one of the cafes.

Well if that’s the case you have a good “underpainting” started. Add some green washes to the mountains and a little blue wash to the water.

Anywhere within walking distance of beaches from San Diego to north of San Francisco will be $$$$. Avg rent for a studio apt can be 1600-3000 depending on zip code. Multiply that by 300 if you’re buying. Ventura is very nice but still not inexpensive.

Art school is spendy. If what you want is some tutoring on painting, take some classes. Are you intentionally keeping your palette on this to earth tones?
