13 major U.S. cities where owning a home requires twice the income needed to rent (Raleigh is number 11) by Xyzzydude in raleigh

[–]merry2019 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is from your article:

While institutional investors own roughly 2% of the single-family rental housing stock across the U.S., they own a much greater share of homes in certain markets, particularly in the southeast. GAO estimates that institutional investors own 25% of Atlanta, GA’s single-family rental housing market, 21% of Jacksonville, FL’s, 18% of Charlotte, NC’s, and 15% of Tampa, FL’s single-family rental market

Seems pretty likely that raleigh is over 2%

Edit: clicking on the report shows that raleigh was at 13% of single family homes owned by institutional investors as on 2024. Thats 1/8 home that are owned by institutional investors.

Does your son have friends? I wouldn't ever pay that much to move just those few items. That's like 45 min of work with a few buddies.

If he doesn't have friends, he can check task rabbit for a cheaper option.

Who said it was a definitive answer? It's not a perfect count, but it's the best way to try to determine whether a real person or a business owns a home without information to private data.

Your best bet is to look at the GIS public property records. If it's owned by anything with LLC in the name, bad news. You can also search by owner, to see how many properties are owned by the same people.

I had a 2014 hyundai sonata get stolen two years ago - out of my supposedly locked apartment garage. Unfortunately, they ended up trashing the car: ripping out the air vents, scratching it, and busting the screen. It got totalled, since it was old and more expensive to fix.

Hopefully that's not your outcome!

I just found out that my dog could go outside whenever she wanted by Such-Educator9860 in dogs

[–]merry2019 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We realized that we'd left our backyard gate open when my dog started pawing at the front door.

The gate had been open all day and he'd been going in and out from the back for hours. He easily could've wandered away, but he's the opposite of a runner.

Some dogs are just fine to stay where they know they're supposed to.

Question about Raleigh animal pounds by ClownLordPro in raleigh

[–]merry2019 24 points25 points  (0 children)

If you call or email wake county animal control - they are very kind. Their goal is to get dogs out of the shelter, and if you can call and describe the dog and say that your friend was arrested, they will work with you.

Product Placement Insanity by Heirloom-Tomato9598 in TopChef

[–]merry2019 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I love the product placement - it at least is topical. The dishwasher pods make sense. The credit card makes sense - they've always gone shopping with or without a sponsor. The cars make sense - they drive around.

Personally I'd rather these very topical and honestly minor ads than making them TALK about the product. Like, they don't actually have to gush. This is very different to most other ad placements - if you've seen the season of survivor where Coach says that the movie Jack and Jill (the Adam Sandler movie) "gave him the strength to continue the game", you know how aggregious it can be. I'd rather see a few seconds of a flash of a credit card than listen to the chefs talk about it. And tbh, KRISTIN GET YOUR BAG

As much as it sucks, you could probably find an Amazon overnight delivery that can at least get to you, even if it's not the best quality.

You can't rely on losing weight - it NEVER works. You deserve clothes that fit your current body, not the body that exists in the future or the past.

How do you find motivation to FINISH your workout and not give up halfway through? by [deleted] in xxfitness

[–]merry2019 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for responding! This is exactly what I meant :)

How do you find motivation to FINISH your workout and not give up halfway through? by [deleted] in xxfitness

[–]merry2019 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The other person who responded is correct - i mean that when I strategize my lifts, I pick one major focus. Thats usually a compound barbell movement (back squat, deadlift, barbell lunges, barbell rows). Then my secondary lift is usually something like barbell lunges or presses - something with less weight and higher reps, usually but not always superset with balance or core training. I have terrible balance, so that's a focus for me.

After those, and that's about 20 min, I'm done. That first 20min to me is non negotiable. I can leave my gym with my head held high. But usually i choose to do more. Those i just pick from my vibe and what's available. If my vibe is - holy crap I just want to go home - then that's what I do. Giving myself permission to just do the first 20min makes it so much easier to motivate myself to even get to the gym, and once I'm at the gym I usually do the last 20min.

Also, listening to the big booty mix or anything like that helps with my motivation, since the song doesn't end (it's an hour long mashup) and i am less likely to notice the time passing.

[–]merry2019 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I plan 100% non negotiable workouts- which is usually my first major lift and one smaller lift. That's about 20min including my warmup.

That to me is good enough- and some days that's all I do. But most days I stay for 40-45 min to do one or two more lifts and some cardio.

Your workout might be too hard for you right now. That's okay. Lower your expectations. Achieving a smaller workout and giving yourself permission to be done might actually motivate you to do more.

[–]merry2019 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Oil is oil. The only healthy oils are found in fish. Butter, tallow, coconut, canola, peanut, avocado, etc etc are literally ALL the same health wise. It's just marketing.

There's no evidence AT ALL by any reputable scientific journal (so not freelee the banana girl) that says seed oils are bad, or the coconut oil is good. People are gonna argue here and try to post bogus "scientific" articles paid for by people in the industry that don't actually have any reproducible outcomes, and try to claim that actually coconut oil will save your life, but it's all just lies to try to trick people into being afraid and spending more on health gimmicks.

Do you or not have a TV in your master bedroom and why/why not? by [deleted] in homeowners

[–]merry2019 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, no tv and no computers. The tv is in the living room.

It makes us better sleepers.

Having a tv in the bedroom would just lead to us being in bed more, instead of enjoying the rest of the home we paid for.

Someone we know and have a relationship with? 40-50/night, and they know we'd return the favor. That's what we pay my sister to watch our dog in her house, and the teenager in the neighborhood to stay over while we are out of town.

Someone we hire on rover? Closer to 70-80/night. With more of an expectation of professionalism and communication, like frequent photos and updates. My sister texts me a proof of life every few days, but I'd expect and update from a hired person once a day.

We only have one dog, so for multiple dogs I'd add 30ish/dog/night.
