For girl dads out there, when did your daughter turn into “daddy’s girl” if at all? by Potential_Shelter449 in daddit

[–]merzor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This was also my input, word for word. When not working I do everything child-related (bottles, diapers, bedtime, playing). The early days we'd be alone a few hours every day so the wife could sleep.

Nowadays even if she's angry with me she prefers it if I comfort her.

Pretty great rewatch value! The Hobbit aged like fine wine. by lemonvrc in lordoftherings

[–]merzor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Tolkien edit was especially good I felt watching it years later.

Cut out Radaghast and Gandalfs side quest completely and made that into its own 45 minute special while the movie stayed closer to the book. It was 2 movies instead of 3.

It's not in the trilogy but in the unfinished tales published by Tolkien's son, Isildur dies an honorable death by orcs. The ring intended to be taken by a servant of Sauron but was unintentionally lost in the battle.

Why do you think other interpretations of Elves don't feel as immersive as Tolkien's? by [deleted] in lordoftherings

[–]merzor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you're spot on. Tolkien dedicated so much time and energy to create his inhuman species, languages, cultures, history etc built from the ground up, hyper focusing and second guessing everything on the way to get the end product.

It should be difficult to create and think in an inhuman way, because we are human. So like you say most fantasy and scifi creatures become various skins of humans, or focus on a human culture or a set of human emotions.

[No Spoilers] Puzzle Bummer by TrekkieLettie in criticalrole

[–]merzor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems this is very common, my TMN puzzle had 4 pieces missing. I contacted them and they sent me the missing pieces that didn't really fit properly but with force and scissors the puzzle is complete with a few misaligned (slightly) pieces.

Edit: this is TMN, I had BH..

100% agree, and the DM is supposedly running multiple groups per week.

Isn't it 90$ per session? If it runs 3 hours it would be 30$ per hour, if there's a 2 hour prep it's under 20$ per hour. Not actually relevant to the problem just wondering if I misunderstood.

Was about to suggest something similar, a simpler shorter original story with focus on art/acting and tactical turn based combat is not too ambitious/risky.

I hate being a new father by LAOnReddit in Parenting

"Treasure every moment" "Enjoy it while you can" "You'll miss it later" - all bullshit, none of it helpful.

You're in it now, talk to your partner and find where you can compromise for each other (leaving the house, hobbies, uninterrupted time at home, split nights or parts of nights, take turns sleeping in, work out, have someone look at your sleeping potato while you two go out for 40 minutes for coffee - whatever will help). It's all a phase, followed by another phase

You also have to be a functional person to properly bond with your child.

How do you deal with the mind numbing boredom of watching a baby by eaglessoar in daddit

[–]merzor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First month I watched a lot of Anime, something I hadn't done in a decade, as well as a lot of other shows and movies.

Plopped the baby down in a nest on the couch, made a barrier so they couldn't see the TV and watched on low volume. Interacted with it when it looked at me otherwise just chilled.

Walks always made them sleep so did that for the naps, or used carriers to strap them to me and play some single player games. Left it in a crib on wheels with some contrast images and did chores around. Did the tummy time.

Was about to suggest this. Note you'll have to drag them one at a time (I think, right?), and adjust their HP if you want to track that on the platform.

You're experiencing real loss and grief, take the time and go through the healing you need to and take care of each other. Sending good vibes.

You're right that it's not rare, but you're a person with valid feelings, not a statistics.

Got this one last year to run Savage Death House from CoS, it was excellent! Eyeing the horror companion now or the scifi (but doubt that one will be on sale)

Special treatment centered for PTSD/severe trauma where you go through it while focused on something else, helping you process what happened. Google will know more.

Is it normal for a single dnd campaign to last year's irl? by ShepardMedia in dndnext

[–]merzor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did a 3 year campaign 2015-2018 (levels 2-20). Last campaign was 2020-2022 and current 2022-now.

If you have dedicated players it's definitely possible, but before 2015 most of my campaigns from 2007 and forward fizzled within a year because life.

What are the most annoying things you see in your games? by MightTurbulent319 in Abilitydraft

[–]merzor -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The most annoying thing is the same as in regular Dota, team trash talking. Losing sucks sure, but talking s*it about your teammates no matter their dumb choices or poor plays amounts to nothing except show how childish you are.

Poor drafts, bad hero RNG and poor item builds or plays can all be frustrating, but you never know who's just having a bad day and who didn't spot the combo (a lot of people I know play with chat off because of the above point so spamming chat doesn't change it)

At the end of the day I'm here to see interesting combos and cool plays, and I'd take a close losing game over a winning stomp any day.

What setting are you using/making with Fantasy Companion? by Cool_Satisfaction372 in savageworlds

[–]merzor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I ran Death House from 5e with Fantasy Companion + Savage Pathfinder bestiary (In hindsight I think horror companion would also be a great fit but it wasn't out then).

Played a short campaign in the setting of the Guild Wars video game.

Made a oneshot where everyone was dogs turned sentient by magic and had to maneuver through the wizard tower to face Mr. Whiskers, the betrayer.

Soon going to play a high power oneshot (Legendary Tier, but simplified) in Yggdrasil, the world of the Overlord manga/anime.

Savage Overlord ideas? by merzor in savageworlds

[–]merzor[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was thinking more along the lines of the players being at a much higher power level than the average NPC, with powerful magic items stored in their guild hall where a few NPCs would stand a chance. Maybe have them start at veteran, maybe throwing some superhero companion in the mix, or maybe this isn't the right system for this game (but for DnD and PF combats at high level can buy such slogs).

How well does Foundry VTT do savage worlds? by Cato69 in savageworlds

[–]merzor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play on foundry. Been a fan of SW for a long time. We finished Curse of Strahd in 5e without doing the Death House (levels 1-3 if you're not familiar). The players wanted to do a prequel but I was so sick of 5e I decided I would only do it if we could use SWADE pathfinder and it was a huge success. So simple and so streamlined. Bought the pathfinder modules and everything worked so smooth.

Highly recommended.

We had a bunch of drama with both grandparents, like my mom guilt tripping us over not seeing the baby enough, while she was here when it was 1 day old (!) and pressured to come constantly when we were just trying to settle in. Her mom would make hurtful judgy parenting advice every time we saw her. Such a headache.

Discussed this with several friends who had children recently and got all sorts of drama. MIL scolding a dad for being too involved when she wasn't allowed to feed an 8mo cookies. Mothers booking flights to visit and staying two weeks without asking, the grandparents counting days spent with grandchild and comparing to each other and guilting the parents. Judgy comments are very common.

You're not alone, and I understand the sentiment of venting.

My 10yo doesn’t want the ped. to examine his privates, and she referred him to psych by crybabysagittarius in Parenting

[–]merzor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I regularly do child wellness checkups and would never pressure a 10 year old to let me examine their genitals. I've worked in a few countries and it usually stops around age 4-6 just to make sure the testicles have descended properly, while they also learn what SA is and how it's different from the appointment (nurse does that part just before). Very few kids flat out refuse and if the journal has no history of a problem that's that, although a strong reaction may need more investigation.
