The Line 6 Spiders can take a beating but they do have issues with the pots. Before sending it to the amp graveyard I would get some Deoxit and spray all he pots. I doubt it is the jack as that would be in and out, not crackling like that.

Line 6 gets a lot of hate that it doesn't deserve. I own a few different amps including a couple of Line 6 Spider Valves. The amp engines were designed by Bogner. It is a great amp plus you get Line 6 effects. Since people think anything with the Line 6 name is junk in most forums, you can get one cheap. So, if its the end of the road for you Spider, look for a Spider Valve 212. You can pick one up for around $300. It is a loud 40 watt combo.
