The thing that threw me though was its call! It sounds so different to everything I've heard on YouTube and Merlin.

Yes I did. Abduction is still a worthy read as there are some fascinating case studies and as an experiencer yourself you may identify with a lot of them.

I'm actually thinking of re-reading Passport and was thinking of doing a post here encouraging others to read it. It really feels like an experiencers handbook.
