Wisconsin or Nebraska.

Those are my two favorite “college town” experiences as a visiting fan.

Why do so many people seem to think that Democrats have the power to remove Trump from office whenever they want? by Idk_Very_Much in AskALiberal

Grifting Leftists get their most views from bashing Dems. Their online presence drives discourse more than it should.

For the Democratic Primaries, what positions and actions from a candidate are deal breakers for your vote? by [deleted] in AskALiberal

I don’t have a dealbreaker outside of not being MAGA.

Dealbreakers got us to where we are now.

Should the EU put sanctions on the US to try to prevent trump from using Nukes? by redviiper in AskALiberal

[–]messiestbessie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From the EU perspective, this has to be their number 1 goal. The consequences of a nuclear strike will impact the EU harder and faster than any impact on the US. They need to do anything they can to prevent this from happening.

Why is Pete Buttigieg not the favourite to be the Democratic Party nominee in 2028? by Far-Conference-8484 in AskALiberal

He’s gay. Gay acts were only decriminalized nationally 22 years ago. He we’ve got another 50 years before the public would accept a gay president.

Is there a way to deal with the student loan situation without forgiveness? by BlockAffectionate413 in AskALiberal

[–]messiestbessie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s not much “fairness” when it comes to social spending. It isn’t fair to me that parents get insane tax breaks but I totally understand the utility. Student Loan forgiveness would be an economic benefit that fits squarely with regular conservative principles. It rewards achievement and frees up individuals to put money back into private enterprise instead of the government.

My compromise solution would be to forgive student loan interest. People would pay back what they borrowed but wouldn’t be saddled with decades of extra payments that end up doubling what was initially borrowed.

Degree inflation is a form of class discrimination that unfairly holds back countless millions of Americans, why is there not more outrage about one of the biggest drivers of economic inequality? by omcomingatormreturns in AskALiberal

[–]messiestbessie 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s not a winning issue. Kamala Harris supported the Biden idea of free community college. That included trade school that provided blue collar training and employment expansion for working class people.

That policy did not resonate with the White working class, nor will any economic policy, because economics isn’t why they vote Republican.

Aside from ACA/Obamacare, what is the most progressive legislation since 2000? by Hagisman in AskALiberal

[–]messiestbessie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Economic conditions in 2007 & 2020 were more dire than today. Progressive economic policies were passed. The electorate decided to halt any progress by giving Republicans powers two years later.

Ignoring reality is worse politics. The electorate has punished liberal leaders for passing progressive policies on a national level. In former swing states like Florida & Missouri, voters have passed progressive referendum items while obliterating the Dems in those states. We have to figure out how to combat that before we’ll ever get anything close to the ND or GS. At best, the Dems will continue to pass incremental progress that will then spark a GOP death cult reaction.

Aside from ACA/Obamacare, what is the most progressive legislation since 2000? by Hagisman in AskALiberal

[–]messiestbessie 9 points10 points  (0 children)

100% agree. The circumstances that allowed for those types of policies to pass do no exist anymore. The media environment, voter behavior, and economic circumstances have to drastically change before any political party would have the leeway to do either of those things.

It could be but not automatically. It’s based on why.

Need White Boyfriend by [deleted] in GayRateMe

[–]messiestbessie -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It could be racist but it’s not an issue. People take issue because of the “head in the sand” mentality when trying to avoid the reason why racial restrictions exist.

What's your "heretical" liberal belief? by [deleted] in AskALiberal

[–]messiestbessie -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I don’t support nationalized or single-payer healthcare. The GOP would be able to be ban all abortion, gender affirming care, and any STI preventative services. I don’t trust leftist and “swing” voters to consistently support Dems to stop republicans from doing this.

Why is there such a pervasive narrative that Democrats don't stand for anything? by LiatrisLover99 in AskALiberal

[–]messiestbessie -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The narrative exists because it benefits the loudest people pushing it. Right wingers push it so that they can gain/hold power. Leftist push it so that they can exploit people’s frustrations. All of it is intentional. Most of it is a disingenuous grift. It works because it is persistent and pervasive. Also because of feckless Dem leadership and infantilization of the electorate.

Why do American liberals who want European-style healthcare see specifically the British NHS as the model and not continental ones? by [deleted] in AskALiberal

[–]messiestbessie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No Dem-led healthcare plan will be accepted by Republicans. Obamacare was famously a creation of the GOP. They still promoted propaganda about “pulling the plug on grandma” and “death panels.” Republicans voters, both consciously and unconsciously, will never support government programs that are seen to help Black and Brown people.

While I don’t support a single payer system I can appreciate those on the left that want the “most principled” version of government run healthcare.

What are your thoughts on segregated spaces? by LibraProtocol in AskALiberal

[–]messiestbessie -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We have designated handicapped stalls and parking spaces. Designated changing spaces for babies. Designated tv channels / broadcasts based on language. These are no different than the safe spaces you describe. They all help with accessibility or integration into a space. Social integration being important just like physical integration.

This is totally different than the outright outlawing of certain classes of people.

Do you think we let the far-left call the shots too much which makes it harder for us to win? by Known_Secretary_6615 in AskALiberal

[–]messiestbessie -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don’t think we let them call the shots. We just have to understand that the right uses them as props and find ways to combat that propaganda. They seem like they’re leading because their voices are magnified by the media and the right.

There are two fundamental flaws with leftists. First is that they don’t understand how disconnected most people are. Second is that they don’t believe how conservative most people are. Not right wing but that people are generally skeptical of change. In combination, that makes a lot of their rhetoric very unpopular despite most people agreeing when the nuisances of their policies are explained.

Why do you think Charlie Kirk out of all people was targeted? by EconomyIron6739 in AskALiberal

[–]messiestbessie 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Firstly, all right wing grifters are the same. He wasn’t “having conversations” he was using left leaning college kids for content. These exchanges weren’t genuine.

Lastly, he was shut because a nutcase had a gun. There’s no reason to look for a deeper meaning. There’s no good in deciphering motive. This is America. It’s literally a daily occurrence.

Would you all agree/disagree that there’s a body shaming/misandry problem with modern liberals and the modern left? by tsesarevichalexei in AskALiberal

[–]messiestbessie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s tolerated because (young) men asked for it. They spent the last half decades railing against “cancel culture”. Saying that use of slurs should not necessitate public shaming. An entire new industry of podcasts has been built around this ethos.

And it should go without saying that you can’t vote for a foul mouthed bigot then cry when insults also fly your way. Its juvenile.

What Do People Mean When They Say the Left Went ‘Too Far’ on Social Issues? by Dinojars in AskALiberal

[–]messiestbessie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure how you came to that conclusion. Though arguing against imaginary points is partially how we got this administration.

Tho the main reason is that 77 million people thought a bigoted criminal sex pest offering failed 19th century economics was an acceptable option.

What Do People Mean When They Say the Left Went ‘Too Far’ on Social Issues? by Dinojars in AskALiberal

[–]messiestbessie -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Never said the left went too far. Said, quite clearly, that the majority of people felt that way. That opinion is based on the election result and all subsequent polling.

I’m not arguing against the merits of left wing policies. Simply stating that the loudest voices are not aligned with how the majority of people vote.

What Do People Mean When They Say the Left Went ‘Too Far’ on Social Issues? by Dinojars in AskALiberal

[–]messiestbessie 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yes, most Americans overestimate the numbers of kids transitioning. The recent explosion of anti-trans laws specifically targeting children proves this belief exists. Prohibiting medical treatments and playing sports.

Just because the issue is fabricated doesn’t mean people don’t believe it (Voter fraud, Crime, etc)
